ABU Pundits

It’s really hard to tell the difference between the ABU pundits and some of the cafe posters these days.

It’s a real issue for us though, makes it more uphill to get straight treatment in marginal decisions whether it’s player suspensions, injury time etc. Also makes it harder to build a new fan base. Ultimately football is becoming a bit of a consumer product and our potential future consumers keep getting a negative impression of us while hearing how wonderful City, Liverpool etc. are. I think there’s a marketing challenge in this for us that we shouldn’t ignore.
Absolutely but the good news is the Abu mediums are dying. Papers, commentary, post match shows like motd are all diminishing and it's become a tik token social media landscape. Having yound stars like Garnacho and Kobbie and the social media influences of people like Speed means the abus can't really hurt us.

It was funny watching Shearer processing Newcastle getting dumped out of all European comps whilst asking more bitter questions.
Shearer on Newcastle a few weeks ago

this season has been tough however has been mitigating circumstances which was injuries. Eddie Howe still has plenty of credit in the bank and whatever happens this season if qualify for Europe or not Howe should be Newcastle manager next season

That goal was correctly ruled out, the penalty Coventry got was debatable but rarely mentioned. Key's remains among the biggest idiots and should know his place as presenter than trying to play the punter.
He's also a Coventry fan so his opinions are no worse that most of the CAF's views when VAR goes against us

Check out the ESPN lot. Nicol and some Liverpool player. Their bile is non stop and now it is not even funny.
The non-ex Liverpool is the worst, Craig Burley is twice the cnut that Nicol is by a country mile

ESPN is the most anti united platform out there full of ex pool pundits.

Here they are yet again. Criticising Ten hag’s innocuous comments, criticising de ligt’s move even criticising Yoro’s transfer.

At it again. Laying into united for signing de ligt and mazraoui and then slagging off both of them. All of them bar frank lebeouf. By the way this Gab marcotti is the same person who praises Chelsea’s transfer policy, says “there’s a method to this madness. What’s the method? We don’t know yet”

I’m pretty sure Gab is a season ticket holder at Chelsea, but even then I don’t find him to be particularly soft or biased towards Chelsea. The rest of ESPN crew definitely aren’t. I can’t even remember the last time I clicked one of their Chelsea segments and they weren’t being overly negative. So yeah.

I haven’t noticed any anti United sentiment with them but then I don’t ever click on their United related videos, so I wouldn’t know tbf.

Don’t take my word, just go there unbiased and see for yourself. Even rival fans have started pointed out to them in their extra time show to the point where they themselves are low key admitting and making fun of their own pundits.

Yes, Gab is a season ticket holder. You must not know about his podcast then because he would defend almost everything related to Chelsea. He would laugh at the madness then he gives his own logic to defend the madness. That’s his MO.

Imagine opening your dirty mouth and saying Spurs are a more attractive club.

Wow
Imagine it were us finishing in the top 4 only once in 5 years with no trophies, and Solanke being our biggest summer signing. They’d be saying Fulham is the more attractive club.

Not sure it's ABU but yeah, shit take. It's like he looked at the final league table from last season and decided Spurs are in a better place. No taking into account a ton of things.

We finished above them the season before, we've won the two trophies.

There's the fact that we've picked up 51 points from our last 32 matches which is so shit that many of us wanted our manager out, whereas they got 44 and nobody was calling for Ange's head. It's because everyone knows we have a much higher ceiling as a club and bigger expectations. We obviously have a bigger legacy / worldwide fanbase which translates into financial muscle and can more readily challenge if both clubs were to perform optimally.

Saying Spurs are more attractive is the weirdest thing, who have they signed that we couldn't have got? If we hadn't have signed Hojlund last summer there's no reason why we couldn't have got Solanke this. On the other hand I don't know if players of the profile of De Ligt or Ugarte would be joining Spurs. High profile doesn't always work out of course (Casemiro, Di Maria etc.) but the point stands. They've not shown themselves to be at that level when it comes to attracting players. We buy from PSG and Bayern, they buy from Bournemouth.

Really desperate and pathetic take.

Even trying to claim it's based on very recent years, it's still wrong. Over the last two years, when United have been scoffed at for being at a low point, and Tottenham praised for doing well, we've still managed to achieve more points than them over those two seasons (we've had a 3rd and 8th finish, they've had a 5th and 8th finish) and we've won both domestic cups while they, as usual, have won nothing. We're even ahead of them in the current table, despite our two early losses.

Yorke did take too long to start any answer - I'll give Keys that. When Dwight tried to claim 'you didn't give me a chance', it was valid to point out there was a decent silence left when he had ample opportunity to start answering. Maybe he was still too stunned by the absurd suggestion?

Yeah we're in the mud but we're still a much bigger club than fecking Spurs. It's Keys though, second only to Souness when it comes to despising United.

I'm too young to remember but I wonder if Keys emphatic ABU-ness came to the fore when he was running the show on Sky or did he have to grin and bear it when United were winning everything in sight? It's rare for a host to get away with being so biased even if the pundits can happily do whatever.

Not sure. He is a Coventry fan, so not sure why he would be jealous of United. Maybe he had a run in with SAF at some point.

He doesn't necessarily hate United, but he works for the Qataris so you can understand the sentiment towards the current club ownership, and he hates ETH and most modern managers. Him and Grey are in an endless back in the day rant week in week out.
