Only saw the highlights so can't comment on his overall game but it looked like two very bad moments and one brilliant goal saving clearance.

It was just the two bad passes. The fact that you only remember that is actually proving his point.
No it's not. 'only remember that' - what? I don't remember every single moment every player has (good or bad) over the course of 90 minutes, do you? :wenger: the pass he gave away to Walcott obviously sticks out because of how shockingly bad it was.

Going down to 10 men really exposed those who are good in possession and those that aren't. That second half was a clinic in how not to pass the ball.

ETH has made a dog's dinner in choosing the games to start AWB and Dalot in lately.

Just another player that comes under fire for no reason when we drop points though, apparently...
Another player? Even when we were winning he was doing the bare minimum yet got praised to oblivion. Same thing as with McTominay, Fred and the rest of company in the past. 1 good game vs 10 mediocre doesn't make the player good all of a sudden.

This one is forgivable because of the sending off. ETH couldn't have known. When we pass from the back (first third to be specific) we often have a CM/DM (usually casemiro, sometimes sabitzer) slot into AWB's position to play that role. Going Down to 10 men he can't have the resources to do any of that.

He was making mistakes even before the sending off. Stop sugar coating it

I agree. I was referencing a post on the previous page which says he's only coming under fire today because we dropped points.

Well yes, I remember he made a few good long passes, and a few cutbacks and low crosses into the box. But you clearly made up your mind already so you do you.

His complete lack of awareness offensively alone means that he shouldn't be starting for us. You could give him a free run at goal without opponents on the pitch and he would find a way to dribble himself into the corner flag.

We have some very bizarre fans on here.

One slightly below par game and the knives are out.

He's been excellent recently and has a bit of credit in the bank built up.

He wasn't even that bad today, he was up against Sulemana who clocked a faster top speed at the World Cup than Mbappe who will give most RBs problems and had a few sloppy passes but it wasn't like he was the only one who suffered from sloppy pass syndrome today.

I hate how he tracks back, like a lazy jog in the park. Never understand it

Problem is that he and Dalot are both quality #2 RBs for a top team.

Ideally we'd sell one for 20M and then buy an upgrade for a bit more, which if the Frimpong link happens I guess would be the idea. I still think it's probably Dalot long-term, but he's made it a defensible decision either way.

Genuine question, have you seen Frimpong defend? He's worse than the other two.

Is this a joke? Bunch of really bad takes here talking about shipping him off. He made some mistakes and nearly cost us but advanced the ball very well and played out of some tight situations. This isn’t PlayStation.

Neither Dalot or AWB are good enough to start for a top club, it's time to decide which is the best second choice full back and sell the other.

We need better quality.

On the basis of this season, both Dalot and AWB are fine as RB options here. AWB had a bad game today, and Dalot has been a bit off form since WC, struggling with fitness/injury as well. But Dalot is young at 23 and developing, with all the requisite capabilities of being a very good RB. AWB has been largely very good since WC. People need to stop being so knee jerk and overreact everytime a negative result happens.

I thought he played really well. Definitely not a flawless performance but who had one today? Maybe the CBs but nobody else. I really like how he is more courageous with the ball and really uses it well (and often suprises the opponent). As long as we play Shaw, I am all for bringing in a more potent attacking force for the RB position, until then (and in the form AWB is in these days) I am fine playing him.

Is that a thing you do now? Clip out every error a player you hate makes over 90 minutes? Wow. That is one depressing hobby you‘ve found for yourself.
Me? :D You guys are praising average players and then be what's going on with this club...

He made two really bad mistakes that nearly led to goals. How is that playing really well?

He's normally a decent tackler and he has good recovery pace but he's a poverty footballer. He's nowhere near good enough for where we want to go as a team. Neither is Dalot either if we are being honest.

Needs shipping in the summer along with the rest of clowns

A lot of clips in there when he isn’t doing anything wrong. One of them he’s trying to play a pass out to Antony and it gets cut out by a bit of luck.

Another one is the ball been played inside of him to someone Antony has lost.

Maybe I have a bit of a soft spot for the guy. The one scene where hes failing a clearance to an attacker is something I am not too angry about. Seeing that we played a man down for almost an hour and being pushed into our own half, I think, he was good. In terms of conclusion, I am with you though. I just think, its more easy to make some money selling Dalot who at least could be marketed with a "potential" sellingpoint.

If Dalot gets back to his pre injury form he's clearly the route forward. But at the moment it really is a toss up between the two.

Think I might be the only person that mentioned the goal line clearance post match... These guys aren't interested in that though

Exactly this. Its a lack of understanding of the game or just purposely ignoring basic football principles.

AWB was doing an fairly good impression of Fred today, did some good stuff and and fecked some stuff up

Not enough to have a strong opinion, I just sort of believe the rumours because I think Ten Hag doesn't trust the club, academy or scouts at all and Eriksen, Malacia, Weghorst and Antony are all Dutch or Eredivisie veterans (and it seems like he wanted De Jong, Brobbey, Gapko and Timber), so if we get linked repeatedly to a young backup on the Dutch national team I'm erring on the side of assuming the rumours have some substance.

Also, I think Antony is a core starter here based on Ten Hag pushing for him to be bought despite clearly costing more than market value, and his best qualities in attack appear to be cutting in and shooting and retaining the ball really well and playing in his fullback (like today when Wan-Bissaka couldn't find a teammate on the cutback).

It's certainly possible we don't make a change at RB. The only certainty to me is that we'll sign a #9 and then I won't be surprised if we uh, get surprised. Ten Hag should have a ton of juice to make decisions unless we collapse late in the season and I have no idea who he rates, really. He might rate both RBs to improve as they hit their age prime, or think neither is good enough. We really have no idea other than being fairly sure that Rashford, Antony, Casemiro, Lisandro, Shaw and Varane are all seen as starters for next season. Presumably Bruno too. Then it's all speculation, really.

Watching him today vs. Southampton, he has improved his attacking game but seems to have forgotten how to defend. I worry about his football IQ though - he always seems to be out of position or choose the wrong place to send the ball to. Sloppy passing and clearances today that put us under pressure. Was surprised he was not subbed. But to be fair, he did get forward quite well and was more threatening than our wingers today.

What is wrong with some of you, seriously.

We haven't conceded today despite playing 55 minutes with 10 men and a bunch of you couldn't help yourselves but come on here to rip the right back for a couple of mistakes when we've kept a clean sheet!

Before the Liverpool game we had 2 fantastic options at RB and we were sorted, now we are ready to ship AWB off to a lower prem club.

He has his flaws and he's good enough as backup and fulfilling a specialist RB option when we need it.

He made 2 crucial interventions to keep that clean sheet as well. Sloppy in possession though.

Liked him yesterday even though he made mistakes which everyone was doing post Casemiro.

He did fine. He’s not going become good on the ball all of a sudden. We know we need a new RB.

No we werent. We need a new RB and have to choose amongst these two as to who will be backup / fight for a starting spot. We were not sorted before the Liverpool game.
