People claming he should have done anything different for their goal is blatantly clueless.

I haven't rewatched it, but live I felt like Varane backed up instead of looking to win the header and might have gotten to it. Rare moment that Maguire out there instead would have prevented a goal.

From having two RB's who were not good enough to 2 great options to choose from. What a turn around

I agree. Well done EtH?

Absolutely. For so long we ignored the fact that good coaching improves players even though that was the calling card of the GOAT Fergie. It's also why I feel the young lads are in great hands as opposed to when Rashford and he who must not be named came through and it felt like they plateaued or even regressed a bit under the freestyle football days.

Same as Dalot and much of the team its hard to believe its the same player we had under Ole its remarkable he barely even looked like a professional footballer last year.

Rather than ignoring coaching as well i would say it was more burying heads under the sand, had no choice really it was a poor decision to appoint him and once they did its hard to question because of his status.

Would still like to see more from him between now and the end of the season before changing my opinion that he should be sold but based on recent form, he looks like a viable option again and that is credit to him. He was basically unplayable last year.

I love how both are so eager to get their starting place, and finding there best form. No need to be a RB anymore imo

When did I say that? When did I say to leave Halland unmarked? What I said is that Grealish is AWB's man, not that nobody should mark Halland. Give your head a shake and stop making things up...
I thought he was good. he's obviously great with his 1 v 1 defending, but I can't ignore the fact that his man scored the goal He was better at picking up off the ball runs today (did Foden even play) but didn't pick up Grealish. Definitely better though. A solid 6 or 7 out of 10 today but the other defenders were all better
Right here. You're blaming him for not picking up grwalish ergo you think he shouldn't have picked up the unmarked Haaland

Further more you laughed and said I've never played football when I said he has to slide in to mark Haaland. Don't back track now

No limits to who ten Hag can improve. He looked dead and buried.

Not gonna lie, he's really won me over again

I’m wondering if it was a bit of a blessing in disguise having Dalot out for this game. We definitely benefited from the defensive part of his game and he didn’t seem to slow us down going forward at all.

Worth mentioning that we still only had 29% possession yesterday. If that’s how we’re going to play against them going forward then I don’t really care as it’s effective, but I don’t think that’s something that ETH will want in 2 years time. The main concern is whether AWB can play in a team that goes toe to toe with City for domination of the ball.

Bar the Grealish goal, the thing which stood out to me was his improved positioning.

For so long he spent much of his time glued to Lindelof and I never understood it.

There is a player in there for sure...whether he'll still be around in a year or two who knows, but he's proving his worth at the moment so fair play to him.

Basically standards have been brought into the football club. Standards not there previously. Awb has realised this and pulled his finger out of his arse.

One of AWBs strengths has always been that awkward, languid style of dribbling; I’m not surprised at his performance yesterday. He was good for us between 2019-2021.

I pity anyone that’s played alongside Lindelof

Was AWBs finger ever in his arse?
It never seemed to me like he didn’t care or wasn’t trying. Isn’t it just that he’s actually a good and hardworking lad who’s responding well to better coaching?

Two things -
1)The thing that annoyed me the most was he was the only player not to be given a chance under Ten Haag. Everyone was just ready to bin him for 5 mill and a bag of crisps to anyone. Im just glad he was given his chance and not sold without even been given one.
2) The great thing yesterday was he was the first catalyst to go at City in the second half. After City were dominating and were a goal up it was him who started doing bits against them. It was his skill and nice pass to Casemiro who in turn set up he first goal. Thats remarkable for the type of player he is.

Has to start again Arsenal next week. He will do a great job on Saka or Martneli

I don’t mean in the sense of not working hard or not caring. More so that he wasn’t developing his game at all and became complacent cos that position was his regardless of performance.
Basically you can’t feck about and rest on your laurels under ten Haag which is polar opposite to the previous manager.

There was never any reason he shouldnt be good going forward. Look at his footwork yesterday. He's got many attributes of a top player. I hope he applies it week in week out.

Fair play to the lad. I had completely written him off, but he's turned it around it seems.

Massive credit to ETH as well, as this is undoubtedly due to his coaching.

I'm saying someone else should be picking up Halland. He is not and AWB's man. AWB's man is Grealish. Nice try though

I've always rated AWB. Defensively he's one of the best RBs in football. Offensively he's getting better. Another player that needed some proper coaching from ETH.

No way we should be selling him.

So what does awb do when he sees haaland unmarked? Come off grealish and slide in or leave haaland free?

Yeah I'd definitely give him a start v Arsenal next week regardless of Dalot's injury status. Bring Dalot on midweek to get minutes into his legs or give him a start if he's ready.

I don't think anyone really doubted his ability to defend 1 v 1 but his attacking output, ability on the ball and ball watching was aspects that were close to 0/10. I don't think he's ever going to be a flying full-back or good on the ball like Shaw but if he can show some sort of form and improve slightly then who knows. As another poster has mentioned, I'd like to see him produce some good form from now to the end of the season before changing my opinion of him.

Halland is not his man. Period. Never was and never will be. If Halland is drifting to our far right post then Varane should be going with him. He is not AWB's concern. AWB's concern is Grealish. My god, this has gone on too long. Why you are obsessed over this is beyond me. Is AWB your brother? Son? Cousin? I said he played really well. Just still needs to work on his off the ball marking. This has been his biggest problem defensively since he arrived. Get over it...

So to clarify, your blaming awb for leaving the furthest man away from the goal to pick up a striker unmarked at the back post?

Ugh....AWB being out of position and trying to mark Halland doesn't excuse him from not picking up his man Grealish. I will repeat. Halland is NOT AWB's man. If you don't agree then so be it.

Nothing but respect for players who manage to turn their fortunes around at United. Immense pressure at the world’s biggest club, media that will eat you alive, fans that will feast on the bones, and typically few routes out once you’ve been labelled completely inept.

What’s incredible is AWB is just the latest in a growing line of players who’ve adapted encouragingly under Erik’s stewardship.

Heck, if AWB can start turning players inside out like that, I can’t wait to see what the new Sancho can do.

Agreed, especially the part about Sancho. Hope he can come back and be back to the talented player we know he is.

Regarding AWB - was a big fan of him first 1-2 seasons. He had a drop in form and looked out of confidence for a while - especially after Rangnick. Looked really poor in preseason and didn’t look like he had improved at all during the friendly games during the World Cup. He’s been fine since he’s back playing the proper games and was immense against City, barely have Foden a sniff. Hope it continues.

We are much better as a team under ETH and that will help all players.

Dalot and AWB have more help on their side from Antony than before. It allows them to do more and keeps opposition players tied up.

Football isn't just about on the ball, but also off the ball stuff. Martial for example has looked poor as a striker. But his presence against City kept their players occupied and allowed ours to do more.

Rashford goals have been made possible because likes of Eriksen allow him to stay further forward. And players like Fred are vital for this. Fred is a defender a midfielder and links with the front players. His energy alone is worth a lot to the team even if he does strike the ball like a toddler at times.

ETH is building a team. Players will look better automatically

This is the thing for me. Maybe old fashioned, but an obsession with attackign full backs.....and just look at TAA, not many would have him as Englands right back and he is very good going forward.

If we are playing a side with a fantastic winger, I would start Bissaka for sure, I would start him over most right backs in Europe in fact....and that isnt me saying he is one of the best in Europe, obviously has flaws in his game, but one on one, bar his positioniing and maybe aerially, not many better at one on one

He doesnt have intelligence, vision or consistency in his game going forward....but I am not disagreeing with you. His dribbling his ok, he has pace and strength and his crossing isnt as bad as many make out though inconsitent...he can be effective going forward if he can get his movemnt sorted and simplify his game....if he can sort his positioning out defensively and be effective going forward he would be an excellent right back....Ive never thought he was a bad one though....I thought he would be a fantastic one, and he still can be, whether that opportunity is still available here though who knows.

I see a lot of people mentioning the coaching of Ten Hag improving so many players.....and I know the answer to my point will be "that is a part of coaching".....but the improvments I see are the players are more confident at right back, communication better and the spirit is there.I think he has improved the players mindsets and also some experienced players around them with great attitudes like Martinex, Varane (well he has bene injured pretty much all the time Bissaka played before) and Casemeiro.....I still see the same flaws with both and they can improve a lot in terms of tactical coaching still, if that happens and the players learn from it, we could have the player I hoped he would have become already by now

Judging by his recent performances, it's hard to believe this is the same player that struggled for the better part of his stint here.

Between him and Dalot, we have the RB position covered for the foreseeable future.

Re-watched the highlights of the City game and noticed that we'd faced a similar crossing situation that was poorly dealt with (3:35). Varane and AWB have to sort out their marking when defending crosses.
