No doubting they have been excellent for Liverpool. I think Bissaka is a better right back though personally, been following him for 18 months since he broke through and displaced Fosuh Mensah. I rate TAA very highly, but I was dying for us to sign Bissaka LAST summer, think he has genuine world star potential as one of the best full backs we have ever produced in this country, rate him that highly

I think they'll end up both playing for England considering how good they are at their respective strengths (defending for Wan-Bissaka and crossing for Alexander-Arnold). 3 at the back will suit Chilwell too as he hates defending and loves getting forward.

is my current guess for the 2022 World Cup team, with Foden or Hudson-Odoi developing into a dangerous enough player that they start some games when the team goes 4 at the back (Sterling as a 10 if Hudson-Odoi is out left, otherwise Foden there).

Thank goodness, aside from Rafael (for a short period of time) we haven’t had a decent RB since Neville.

We will now really start to see how god awful Valencia has been over the past 5 years - an utter fraud. He’s in a great position, as the bar for Utd RBs is so low - that it’s quite frankly very easy to improve on.

Let’s just make sure he gets the suppprt when he makes the inevitable mistakes a young player will make.

Valencia and Wes Brown say hello.

I can't wait to see him in a big game against City or Liverpool. Can really see him smashing a few big tackles into Salah, Mane or Sterling and really getting the crowd going wild.

He will be a real fan pleaser.

I like the guy his cementing RB into his own and will be hard to dethrone once his form picks up. While still early days, so far he looks composed and I don't have any worries he will lose his man.

Valencia and Wes Brown say hello.

Valencia certaintly doesnt - commendable stand in once he was finally outed as a failed winger (who should only ever have been a squad option as RB) who should have left the club 5 years ago - we are seeing now what a decent RB can bring to the side, rather that accept the absolute mediocrity of Valencia.

Brown - I loved Wes Brown, such a shame about his injuries. He did leave the club nearly a decade ago, but when fit was a quality player.

One thing I don't like about him is his Valencia-like reluctance to use his left foot.
Been the best player on the tour all things considered. Very happy with this signing.

The right back has always been our weakness and hole in defence, but now it becomes one of our strength.

I knew he was good but he's even better then i thought. So happy we bought him.

Just because that YouTube video doesn’t show his best tackle of the lot for some strange reason. Shows his poor lay-off but not the recovery.

What surprised me was his pace. I never knew he was that quick as have not watched Palace at all.

If Wan-Bissaka was to be tried in another position, I'd like to see him as ball winning DM rather than CB. He isn't strong enough in the air to be a CB, but imagine him winning the ball back a dozen times a game as DM

His passing is nowhere near good enough to excel in that role.

It was obvious to anyone who watches premier league at least every week about what he could do defensively. However, there is still doubt about his offense capabilities. As I stated before with Wan in defense, De Gea in goal, Shaw in left back and all our center back option, it is hard to see a defense better than ours in the league. Even though Liverpool has good attacking fullback and Van Dijk and Becker, we seem more stronger in the defensive aspect. I can see us having the most clean sheet in the league.
I really hope you are right on the part in bold. As Sir Alex said "attack wins you games, defence wins you titles". Hopefully we can then gradually build on this and then I think we will be challenging for the title in 3 seasons time mate.

Ole said he can rival to James in sprints.

He seems a good defender. Funny how people said he is not worth the price. We will see.

I hope he improves his passing/crossing a bit so that he will help us offensively as well.

I don't think Hargreaves was a good passer of the ball either. They can tackle and win the ball and then pass it to a creative player. What is needed at DM is also awareness of what is going around and cover the defenders, stop the runners etc too.

Defenders playing DM because of whatever people think they have hardly works. At least at united.

Even the likes of Rio couldn't hack it. It is a different beast all together playing in DM position.

Get in Maguire and I will be 51% certain. We have a strong foundation in the back. It is not like we don’t already have some good defenders. Prior to last season we had the best defense in the league. With Maguire and AWB, that will be around £130m we would spend to improve our defense. AWB is already showing value for his money and Maguire will be a update on our center back even though I don’t rate him that highly. With good defense organization by Ole and a proper shield like Fred or perhaps Mctominay or even Matic, I don’t see us conceding much this season.

Liverpool still have the better defence than us.

Better defensively as a team yes. The only way to know if their back 4 and GK is better defensively than ours is to put our front 6 from last season in front if it.

I think that Wan Bissaka is going to help us out massively. Hopefully we get in Maguire or if not another centre-back as I think we definitely need one.
Regarding the part in bold I think the form of De Gea contributed massively to this I think now that the contract situation is sorted out, I think De Gea will be over the blip of last season and will be back to the form he has shown previously, I think will improve defensively massively.
I think that Matic should only start the games against the top 6 next season as his legs are gone but I think we should be able to rely on him having a game every so often at full intensity and then I think we should get rid of him at the end of the season when his contract expires but I have a feeling that Woody will give him a contract extension due to his experience which is something I am really hoping doesn't happen. Which centre-back would you prefer us to go for if we miss out on Maguire?

This is correct.

Hargreaves was a much better passer than Wan-Bissaka, had a more reliable first touch in tight spaces too. No comparison here.

Wan-Bissaka is a RB who will get to do a lot of ball-winning since we appear to basically be pressing with a 4-2-4 sort of alignment with a ton of space for Shaw, Pogba, DM and Wan-Bissaka to cover, which in turn suggests we should see lots of McTominay, little Matic and that we should toss 15-20M at some speedy ball-winning DM from Ligue 1 who's the next Kante/Gueye type fella or similar type option, the stats suggest Sangare at Toulouse but who knows really.

If we want to weirdly spend 70M on a young Englishman, this role would absolutely suit Declan Rice very well too.

Although Owen Hargreaves only scored 2 goals for us both were free-kicks one vs Arsenal and the other vs Fulham. Two of the sweetest free-kicks I've ever seen scored. Beautiful.

Depends on how much we have to spend. Koulabaly definitely is my first choice if we are spending this much on a defender. I don’t believe he will cost that much more than Maguire if we had a good negotiation team.

If we are going for cheap sensible addition, Alderweireld, Joachim Andersen, or Ibrahima Konatē comes to mind. Konate especially might make a giant leap next season, so he would be someone I prefer as an alternative to Maguire. The only problem is that he represents more of a gamble and I might struggle to adapt to the league. So it makes sense why we are so focus on Maguire who has experience in this league and we have an idea what to expect from him.

I would have liked Koulibally if we were preferred to spend stupid money on Maguire I think we should have added a few million to get Koulibaly in. Joachim Anderson signed for Lyon. Never seen Konatē play. I'll have to keep an eye on his as I've seen his name mentioned by several posters on here. Think Alderweireld would be a good addition as I believe we could get a good three years out of him.
