PSG, Barca, Bayern, Liverpool, Spurs, Madrid, Juventus (they even play a winger, Cuadrado, as WB), etc.

If Carvajal is only decent on attacking, what would say about AWB?
But if you call Carvajal an attacking fullback then 90 percent of FB who are decent going forward would be labelled attacking fullbacks.
Im not saying AWB is fantastiic going forward, im arguing against the idea that every top side has two attacking FBs

He is unreal defensively. I want a back four of Wan-Bissaka, Wan-Bissaka, Wan-Bissaka and Wan-Bissaka.

Him single-handedly stopping their counter in the second half was hilariously good.

The guy is brilliant  It’s not often you look forward to watch a RB play.

There's no getting away from the fact he's a tremendous defender but I think he's getting too much of a free ride for his attacking play (or lack of) from many on here. Same isn't afforded to other fullbacks at the club.

Going forwards we need to add better width and quality outwide because this guy, as great as he is at the back, just won't create much at all. It's just not his game.

Luke Shaw is not much better going forwards either. It's a huge issue for us.

The under-looked fact is that he creates so many counter attacking opportunities when he wins the ball against the grain of play. There is a need for better quality at left back but that has nothing to do with Wan Bissaka's contribution to attack.

Great game from him. Vital to stopping all their counter attacks and keeping us comfortable. And quite good on the ball too.

He's immense but needs to mature a bit more. It was a bit Ashley Young-esque when he went in on that tackle around the half way line. It was stoppage time in the first half and a needless challenge, it's about game management at that point and just holding the guy up. I'm sure that will come though and I think things will get better for him once Ashley Young leaves in the Summer. We don't want Young's rash challenge antics to rub off on Aaron.

Hopefully with the right coaching, he can develop the attacking side of his game too.

Glad to have him on our books, one of my favourite United players at the moment.

fecking love watching this guy defend. We're so solid at RB now, its amazing.

Don't think I've enjoyed watching a defender since Rio/Vidic

Players like him are what we're missing, those who can totally dominate the opposition in their respective areas of expertise. We don't have a lot of such players right now.

Best RB in the league?

Can’t be the best full back if you can’t contribute in an attacking sense. Quality defensively RB.

I’m not even expecting TAA levels of contribution he just needs to be at least a threat from that side. I don’t think Evra recorded many assists and his final ball was never great but he dominated that whole left side when he was at his peak and drove our attacks from that side. This was a time when Ronaldo was on the right side and we used to have park and older/more central Giggs on that side.

Fantastic right back; probably the best defensively in the league.

His lack of attacking contribution is highlighted by us not having a capable wide right player. If we had Sancho or someone ahead of him it wouldn’t necessarily be a problem for us. As of now we “need” him to offer something in the final third, but if that load was lightened it would do him the world of good.

He is unreal defensively.

It was obvious they brought on Hernandez to just run at him and try and get him sent off but he dealt with it so well. That stop on their counter was perfections as well.

It's amazing how nothing even gets past him without him getting something on it. I'm surprised defenders don't just turn around when they run down our right side and see him.

Defensively maybe but he isn't close to TAA imo. As Gary Neville said, it's like having De Bruyne at right back with his passing ability.
But then again, it's like having De Bruyne at right back. Without question he's the best attacking fullback in the league, but there is another side to the role which he can struggle with.

Don't think I saw one time where someone got past him against Norwich. That tackle he made near the end where they were countering was beautiful to watch, so strong

Having said that he does like to dive in a bit, doesn't he? Almost always gets the ball, but there was a nasty tackle where he didn't

I haven’t seen him been beat once 1v1. He’s unreal when it comes to being a defender. However, He can’t cross to save his life though. Screw the modern game with flying fullbacks. He’s the best RB in the league give me him over TAA any day. Once we get a proper RW we will be incredible down the right wing. Wish we signed Mahrez instead of him warming the bench for city.

Left back is the only issue in the defensive line now. Really highlighted by the others across the back. Hardly surprising though that a 33 year old Ashley Young isn't the answer.

Best RB in the league?
Best defensive, behind a few going forward. TAA is easily the #1 for any big side because of his on the ball ability, Ricardo Pereira is quality, Cancelo is quality, and AWB is quality but I'd have them all on par tbh. Azpilicueta is still good too.

Huh? James was brilliant yesterday.

So far been a good signing imo. Just a shame he's lackluster attacking. Defensively he's top notch but for me to be or become a world class fulback you need to be good both ways. Just hope he doesn't pick up any serious injury because with all those god damn sliding tackles I feel like he's gonna break a leg..

Yep. There was a point as well towards the end where one of the Norwich attackers tried to let the ball through his feet and out to the wide player, AWB managed to time it perfectly to nick it at the exact right moment and pass it to a team mate. He couldn’t have had eyes on the ball at all times there, and that was one of those ‘always a free kick’ situations I felt. Incredible player. Love him to bits!

There problem we have down the right hand side is because wingers don't take on their full back, down the left hand side our players are more than happy to take on their man as displayed by Radford, James, Martial even Perreira. But I don't know what happens to the players once they are on the right hand side.
We have this pattern where AWB will come up next to the winger, they will exchange a couple of passes among themselves and then give it back to the midfielder. James delivers mean crosses when given space but I think from now he also has to take on his man, this will definitely create space for AWB as well

He hasn’t been consistent on the right yet though, all of our wide players consistently perform a lot better on the left.
All best side in the world have attacking fullback to help their best winger. It allows them to have passing options or dragging away one marker. So I'm not sure with this train of thought that the best winger need a defensive FB on their side. Are we planning something revolutionary?

I would like to see a match of him in back three, I would experiment with

- - - - AWB-Maguire-Tuanzebe - - - -
James- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Williams

He’s a really good defender, the only thing that scares me a bit, is he likes to slide tackle a lot, and playing as a cb, is little dangerous (might give up some pks).

Before anyone says anything, I know we play many players out of their natural positions, but I would experiment it for a match or two, I wouldn’t mind seeing it against Chelsea.

Sometimes it feels he us too raw. But his talent is immense and he goes away with slight slackness

It’s honestly ridiculous how good at tackling he is. For someone who commits so many, he rarely makes mistakes/fouls with them.

Seriously, who was the last player - let alone RB - as good at tackling as Wan Bissaka is?

Where are you getting lost?

If we have a better wide right attacker there’ll be less pressure on AWB to deliver an attacking threat, which he isn’t entirely up to. Making his lack of attacking threat less of an issue.

If we have a better wide right attacker our right side will perform better than it currently does.

Only way we can go on to achieve anything big again with AWB in the team is buying a world class winger. He's a tremendous defender but We need to create more chances and score more goals. Luke Shaw n AWB just aren't going to create enough so we need to seriously improve the midfield and forward options.

Most (all?) Spurs threat last night came down his right hand side. He's struggled most games he's played against us. He's a defender first and foremost.

And that’s why we’re linked to sancho.

People are being a bit silly about this acting like every fullback has to reach TAA levels of assists to be deemed good enough.

AWB will get assists, but he’s so good defensively I’d rather get a flying LB and let him stay more defensive.

For me AWB is currently the best defensive RB in the league who has near mastered the form of tackling. Possibly the best tackling RB United has ever had.

He is streets ahead of TAA defensively as TAA is streets ahead of him offensively. TAA is not only an offensive RB but with Robertson are Liverpools main creative force and Liverpool are setup accordingly for them to be so (TAA's crossing is so good I believe his position will evolve in future years depending if Liverpool's formation changes, I see him moving from RB to RW down the line).

AWB will improve offensively but will never reach TAA levels as I also believe TAA will not match AWB defensive levels. AWB broke the EPL record of most tackles in a match yesterday. I believe mentally that "defend first" mindset kicks in when he attacks thinking he may not want to venture too far forward as he wants to get back asap to protect his "space".

Agreed there were many lapses in TAA's defensive play yesterday, it wasn't so long ago that Klopp would play Gomez in tough games at RB as he was wary of TAA defensive issues
