United and Liverpool are set for summer tug-of-war over Lennon

Aaron Lennon has emerged as a summer target for both Manchester United and Tottenham.

The Spurs winger has just signed a new deal at White Hart Lane which takes him up to 2014 but the club would be powerless to stop him from moving on if another club were to match their £20million valuation.

United appear to be the favourites to sign the 22-year-old England international, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson fearful that he could lose both Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez at the end of the season, while Ryan Giggs is also heading towards the end of his career.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was interested in signing Lennon in the January transfer window and he could go back for the player as he looks to bolster his squad.

Should Lennon move to Old Trafford, he would follow in the footsteps of Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov, both of whom left White Hart Line to join United.

Lennon, who has won 11 England caps, joined Spurs five years ago for £1m when he left home-town club Leeds.

Inconsistent, not worth £20m (or even £10m) but a summer like the last two vs Spurs board would be highly entertaining.

Good player, but needs another season at Spurs imo before a big money move to a top 4 club.

All he's missing is the ability to cross the ball. Everything else is there.

So he's become a summer target for his own club? :wenger:

If the price were in the teens, I'd have a look at him. Lightening speed, better dribbling this season and the ability to put in some decent balls= better than Nani :D In all seriousness this'll never come to fruitation but if you want someone who can change the team dynamic if something isn't working, a new improved Lennon under Fergie would be one of the best...

I admit the way he skinned Evra at Wembley and OT has piqued my interest. Spurs would demand monster money for him. Probably £20 million just for them to answer the telephone with a polite NO.

Straight swap for Nani?

We were fighting Spurs for Nani. Maybe they still want them

It won't happen, but that would be interesting

20 million is way too much. Best use the cash on Ribery/Tevez.

Or to put it simpler: someone better

Sadly he seems to play quite well against United, wonder if he could always play that well. Decent player still not good enough for United, he may be next year as I think he is improving under Redknapp

Jesus..God...no

I'd rather we buy Usain Bolt from running, he's faster and his end product can't be any worse.

First things first

He's not worth £20m

But strangely, I do quite rate him, or more correctly, his potential.

And I'd be concerned if Liverpool did spunk their summer budget on him, as no doubt they could do with a decent winger, and no doubt Lennon has the potential. With that acceleration and pace, he can beat any full back in the world, and if you can isolate him with the full back he can create, yes he will mess up a lot of crosses, but if you get him the ball enough, he will create something.

I wouldn't say he'd be my first choice signing, but if the price was more reasonable, I'd rather we signed him than Liverpool

Say what you like, but Lennon has posed more threat to Man. Utd's defence down the right hand side than probably any other right-sided player you've faced this season.
