A Tribute to Roy Hodgson - his LFC legacy in quotes

Presumably you think he was given a fair chance to do a good job at Liverpool?

I think he was given a fair chance given in the current climate we live in (footballing climate). At a big club you have to get results fairly quickly and he was exceedingly poor. Beyond that Liverpool fans would know better.

Do you generally have this much trouble 'moving on' in life? Will your Hodgson-hate hard-on ever wear off?

Sorry, but that is just one time too many:

Lighten up. It's the internets.

Hey mate, thanks for pointing out the bolded bit, I'd missed that.

According to your own logic then, you presumably think that Liverpool are not the right club for Dalglish as his results in the same amount of time have been considerably poorer.

I am genuinrly stunned. Well done to roy. with two away wins this season, he just doubled his record from last year.
While managing a team allegedly inferior to your lot at Liverpool. Playing better football than Liverpool have done in over a year.

Could his 36th year be the magic year he finds the key to away games?
 what a stupid statement:lol:

Kenny's results are far better than Roy's and so is his football, Chief..
Bullshit. Kenny Dalglish's results are not ''far better'' at all and his football has not been any where near as good as West Brom has played since Roy took over. It's high time for you stop burying your head in the sand and admit how poor your team actually is. For even having a manager as good as Dalglish can't hide the rot.

Yes. Our first loss after a long unbeaten run. You were unbeaten for how long again? :p

hehe.

I like you, Chief, as you rarely resort to the insults many others do people don't agree with you. But you seem to have set notions about things and don't half use twisted logic to back these up!

Bottom line in this particular debate is I am happy Hodgson is no longer manager of our club and I am pleased Kenny is.

If Hodgson keeps WBA up, all power to him. For me clubs like WBA, Fulham etc are exactly the level his managerial prowess will flourish. And good luck to him.

No prob. Just don't pretend your fans gave him a fair chance. Or that your players are better than they showed under him. For even the bounce under Daglish has started to fade. Yet he is trying his best to keep you afloat by even resorting to 3-5-2.

Rafa did you lot damage like no other. For your sake, you must hope Kenny will be allowed to sort it out in the summer and beyond.

Kenny is playing different formations. I don't think he'll play 3-5-2 against your mob tomorrow.

Our players are better than what they showed under Roy for sure. He couldn't get the best out of them for whatever reason. Where did he leave us? 10th? 12th? They're clearly better than that. A lot better.

I can't speak for everyone, but Roy got a fair suck of the sav from Liverpool fans from my experience. It was just quickly apparent to most he wasn't up to it and the crowd turned. If your experience was different, I can't argue with that.

PL season so far. You make your own mind up.

Under Roy:
Games played: 20
Point accum: 25
Goal diff: -3
Win/draw/loss record: 7 / 4 / 9
Away wins: 1
Win rate: 35%

Under Kenny:
Games played: 10
Point accum: 20
Goal diff: +8
Win/draw/loss record: 6 / 2 / 2
Away wins: 3
Win rate: 60%

”Unless there is a major influx of cash into the club and the team is going to be changed from one moment to the next, then whoever takes my place will be doing a similar job with similar players.” - Possibly the boldest attempted con since the first Nicean Council back in 325 CE.

Well there was a major influx of cash wasn't there?

Not yet but we'll see in the future.

FSG pretty much spent what they received from sales in the Jan window.

The summer will see the extent of their commitment to Liverpool.

I think the fact that they were looking to just add Suarez (presumably at the expense of Babel) to compliment the whore (before he went and spread his legs for the Russian) shows that they do have intent to spend money.

'tis a good point. Hopefully it bodes well come June.

Someone with a bit of pace who can cross the ball wouldn't go amiss. I'm pretty confident FSG will spend big/wisely this summer.

Lack of European football is going to really feck up your balance sheet.

Your sole income is going to come from gate receipts, sponsorship and merchandising, all of which will take a hit with less games and less exposure.

not given up on 5th place just yet. We've taken 19 points from the past 8 games, spurs have taken 13 from their last 8. Currently 4 points behind. Spurs have a game in hand, but they face us, city and chelsea away and have to host Arsenal as well.

Think we have a decent chance of finishing above them if we keep up our run of form.

net spend came to 1.8m

would have been around 17m if Torres hadn't been replaced by Carroll.

The money from Torres and Babel's sales constitutes a major influx of cash. With that money Dalglish bought Suarez, who seems to have won you quite a few points, and Carroll.

I think a year out of Europe could help them in the long term, especially a tournament as pointless as the Europa League.

Fail to qualify they'll have the PL to focus on next season with the odd CC and FA cup game. Could be a blessing in disguise.

Financially I doubt they'd really lose out on that much.

Yea, I like seeing them in the Europa League, but no European football will have knock-on financial effects. They'll lose about 7 or 8 home games for starters.

Mind you, Anfield has been half empty for some of the ties. You'll Never Walk Alone obviously doesn't extend to Thursday nights.

I think missing out on the CL is a big blow but I don't think the difference between being in the UEFA Cup and not being in the UEFA Cup will matter too much, as long as it is only for one season. As esmufc says it could almost be a blessing in disguise allowing us to concentrate on the domestic campaign while rebuilding.

That's the half full stance I am taking anyway.

fecks sake. 'a major influx of cash' is not all that noteworthy when it involves selling your star player.

Don't be daft. You know as well as I do what Hodgson meant when he said that. And it sure as hell didn't imply a net spend of 1.8m.

Not that any such spend would have involved Suarez with Roy at the helm.

"Ronaldinho and Suarez are players who we have never even thought about but I would think there is not a manager in the Premier League who has not given Ashley Young a thought at some stage or another."

That's a bit silly really. One is a detailed scouting report to be interpreted by Mourinho, the other is a set of basic instructions for players to take on to the field.

"Glen and Paul get forward" - obviously a forgery.

If nothing else, he uses it. Redknapp's is just gathering dust.

He added a few more quotes to his tally today.

"The great pleasure I take is beating Liverpool because it is not something West Brom do very often."

"I am more than satisfied, I am really happy with the performance," added Hodgson.

This thread is priceless for the pure hypocrisy of Liverpool fans. So much for the Scousers here in RedCafe being less deluded than those on Rawk. Not a peep about King Kenny after the shit show he is putting on after thread after thread about Hodgson.

Someone with a bit of pace who can cross the ball wouldn't go amiss. I'm pretty confident FSG will spend big/wisely this summer.

Enter Downing.

Ha ha. I guess Roy was wrong. Even with a huge influx of cash, Liverpool, still shit.

Kenny's results are far better than Roy's and so is his football, Chief..

Don't know if it's been posted in another thread, but apparently this is Roy's tactics board from the game against Newcastle (when he was still managing Liverpool):

Compared to one by Mourinho in 2005:

You need to remember you're dealing with footballers and not brain surgeons. They need to be moulded to a system in training but on a match day you can'tbe giving highly complex instructions - they should already know what to do.

To suggest that Hogdson is a poor manager is garbage - his record in various continents and in international football speaks for itself.

Had the shitty end of the stick at Liverpool - owners arguing, left with no money to spend and fans that didn't want him. Since gone on to do alright at his next club, and for me a decent shout for Engalnd gaffer if 'Arry knocks it back.
