A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

To be honest I was one of the skeptics regarding Pochettino, thinking that he was good but perhaps often a bit overrated in circles.

But before the Brighton vs Spurs game, I read a stat on the Skyports live commentary feed, which said:

Spurs' net spend under Poch - £18million
Brighton's net spend under Hughton - £120million

Probably when I realised what a ridiculous manager Poch really is. Really should have nabbed him. I reckon he would make us title contenders within months with our squad.

There was a rumour doing the rounds Pochettino is getting around 80mil for the window. Plus whatever he makes up in player sales, so all the youth players not making the cut(Messi with an affro) and reserves who have no future at the club(N'kodu) being sold off. Then the question marks over Alderweireld and Eriksen. Even though Eriksen only has 1 year left I would imagine in this market still 50mil and 25mil was the Alderweireld release clause.

Pochettino could be sitting on 140mil or so to spend, Bale money v2.0

I hope you are right - I think we will bring in 3 players minimum with a central midfielder a priority - probably £50-60 million for the 'big signing' and then a couple more for £20-£25 million would be my guess.

Our record signing so far is £40 million.

Spurs have sold players like Walker for £50m, Brighton have sold Sam Baldock for £3.5m and let go of LuaLua for free!!
It's all relative!!

Just highlights how dropped points are dropped points whether it's a draw or defeat (both are shite results no matter what people like to say). You need wins and they've got more than Chelsea, Arsenal and United.

Though it is a bit weird seeing 12 in a loss column for a 3rd place team I admit.
 
Funny we could see a team achieve the fewest losses of any club not to win the league and we could see a team achieve the most losses of a team able to finish in the top 4.

Spurs were flat, they better not be when Ajax are in town next week.
 
Once again, the lack of a plan B tactically from Poch. When teams sit deep he seems to have no clue how to break them down.
The excuse that he is hamstrung by lack of options I'm sure will be wheeled out again but the matter is it's happened time and time again with Spurs, too often to be coincidence.

They're just an anomaly really.

One defeat after 36 games must be a record surely, you have to go back decades to find a team with as few as that.

Was trying to find a thread I made a while back as too many battling draws in a season can hurt you as much as a few defeats as Spurs really prove my point.

Obviously if you draw one game you can afford many more losses than teams who draw 6-7 games as is usually the average in a season.

I just thought they had Ajax on their minds. Actually really interested to see what they do with the Bournemouth game sandwiched between the two Ajax ties as don't win that either and suddenly top 4 is in big doubt for them going into final game.

That's very true, I think that Spurs still seem to lack true belief in themselves whenever they are under pressure, (I refrain from using bottling!) Which surely comes from the way the manager speaks and sets the team up?
Bournemouth can certainly score but also concede a lot, should be interesting

What a strange take, this season we've won so many games in the last few mins by scoring late on, teams that lack belief don't do that consistently.
 
Terrible bench options is their main concern. You look at the first team and it competes with just about anyone. That bench though, academy players, players returning from long term injuries, flops, and retirees.

The team Poch rolled out for Hammers Alderweireld on the left of defense, Rose in midfield, Foyth as a RB. added to that Dier returning from a long term injury looked well off the pace. Then when they needed a plan B they can bring on Llorente and Janssen witch is laugh out loud worthy.

I thought the Winks - Sissoko pairing in midfield looked good. Sissoko brought the athleticism, pace and power, Winks the passing and tempo control, why the changes? Resting for the Ajax game?

Pretty much covers it, resting players against West Ham was always going to end in tears, a bogey team for us and quite a heated derby match. Still think we will be safe enough as no other team seems to want top 4. I’d rather United for it than the other 2.

Not sure if it was so much resting players rather than just not having a good enough squad to cope.

Maybe not resting but it looked like a game where they weren’t gonna risk further injury or being overly fatigued for Ajax. Thankfully it didn’t seem to hurt us much.

Do you mean Liverpool?

Chelsea only had one defeat in 2004/05, albeit that came three months earlier than Liverpool's this campaign.
 
Sorry mate, one draw I meant to put in whole season which is something Spurs could very well do.

Must go back decades for a team in top division to have as few as that. Man. City have two and Liverpool have about 5 I think.

But in all honesty, with a new stadium and the possibility that we will be in the EL and Spurs in champions league, it is hard to believe he would entertain that possibility now. If Ole can somehow gets us back in the champions league for next season, Woodward should know what to do for the sake of United football club.

Every month for the last year Pochettino has reportedly been about to jump ship for Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, United or somewhere other. But it's very clear that Pochettino has always wanted at least one full season with Spurs in our new stadium.

Moreover, it's obvious that Ole would not have been made permanent manager if Pochettino had actually tipped United the wink about this summer.

This latest piece of fiction is merely part of an attempt to tighten the screws on Ole.
 
6 losses in last 10 games, 8 in last 14 games in all competitions.

Also 6 losses in last 10 league games.
 
Everything about him is new age football except his love and need for traditional centre forwards.

This spurs team would be 20x better if they went about playing 3 clear cut forwards than any sort of target man that needs delivery.
