A chance to get back in the trophy winning business

We now have a great chance to win the Carabao Cup and the first trophy since the Europa League win under Jose.

A two legged Semi Final vs Nottingham Forest potentially followed by a final against Newcastle or Southampton at the end of February. Definitely feels like a cup win could be the start of something special under Ten Hag and prospective new owners.

Is it the inflection point we've all been waiting for?

Was just thinking the same thing  And it wouldn't surprise me if EtH accomplished this.

We have a very good chance. I would be wary of Newcastle though, in a one off game they are as good as anyone in the league. Hopefully Ten Hag's experience in winning silverware can be the difference. Should beat Forest over two legs, their goalkeeper being unable to play definitely helps.

We've got to win a trophy this season, at the start of the season I said the EL but now with Barca next that'll be tough (and Arsenal are still there as well) but between the league cup and the FA Cup (Chelsea already gone, one of City or Arsenal to go next and Liverpool with a tough replay) we've got a great chance

Man Utd
Forest
Southampton
Newcastle

Don’t think anyone would have predicted that last 4.

Huge opportunity now for a cup success.

Yeah this would be a very nice start to the EtH reign.

I think it's five years since we actually won something and it musty be our longest run without a trophy in 30 years or thereabouts? Huge incentive to get the club back to winning ways.

Would be an incredible boost for this new era. Always felt that not winning the EL hurt Ole badly.

Our fixture list is going to look very tough for the next 6 weeks or so. If Ten Hag can keep us winning through this period then he is god-like.

The Carabao final being 3 days after the Barca 2nd leg is not ideal

I know people are excited but this is a bit premature, usually these are made when we're in a final.

Squad management is vital and he'll probably have to take a few risks in the Carabao and FA Cup games to keep the best 11 fresh for the biggest games.

We currently only have Dalot and VDB out injured but it will need all the players to step up and prove their worth to the squad.

Good to be challenging atleast though. Rather have a hectic schedule than a free one!

A little worried about counting chickens, but it would be disingenuous to not admit that this is a very favorable scenario. As much as this is going to strain our schedule, our squad can handle such a strain at a much higher level than the other teams left. We...should...come away with this at this point. Anything less than a trophy here would be disappointing frankly...

League cup was the start of our last truly great team too (2006)

We have good depth but currently too reliant on Rashford to score the goals. Could do with Martial and Bruno stepping it up in the next few games and Weghorst can’t come soon enough.

It definitely did. Any manager here has to get the 'no trophy' monkey off their back as early as possible and we had a few decent opportunities with him which we blew, although he got a bit unlucky with the circumstances around that Villarreal final.

It's a really good opportunity now for Ten Hag and he's put us in a great position here. I just really hope we don't end up losing to Newcastle in the final, not only would it be a setback for us but it would feel like a big shift in momentum for them as well.

I'm worried that a lot of players will have the yips in a final. We'd be relying on the likes of Varane and Casemiro to guide us through it.

We should definitely take it seriously at this point. It might be a mickey mouse cup but it's still a trophy and it's a step towards getting back into the habit of winning them.

3rd time in Carabao Cup semis in last 4 seasons, Ole was really unlucky to draw City both times

No. He was out of his depth, can't believe we have given Ole 3 years. One of the biggest mistake we have ever done. He had conned us into believing he know what he was doing and requested 3 years to implement his philosophy. All he had was smiling, go out enjoy yourself, no training, no discipline and rely on individual brilliance.

This is a huge opportunity. A cup will lift everyone and break the trophyless run. Let's play a pretty strong team.

Literally finished second and third while always going far in the cups.

What a con artist?

I can see that you are happy with Ole performance and his football. I supposed you are also happy with LVG and Jose for winning something.

I admire your positivity and to be fair, we have been winning a lot of games lately.
But sadly, I just don't see us winning any trophies for at least 2 years, assuming the Glazers are still here.
If the Glazers leave, we should ascend upwards but until that happens, I expect us to be a team competing for 4th place every year, with no trophies.

He might be one of those fans who prefer not to win trophies, but merely support ex-players in their endeavours.
When Jose and LVG won trophies for us, he was probably livid.

As weird as it sounds as soon as Maguire was fecked we weren't winning that. He in particular was vital in that team.

With City gone our chances have improved . That much is obvious. No need to start counting chickens though.

I know you're one of the biggest Jose fans on the site, but he was the worst thing to happen to United. Should've let him go right after the first season for finishing 6th after spending 150m+
