I am through?

From whose team do I get to replace a player after the final round?

I'll set it up now. Just to let everyone know unless I'm told otherwise I'm going with the original formations given to me.

Elber in for Sousa next game Brwned, cheers.

And you expect me to go trawling through the football forum to find the image? Ludicrous levels of laziness I'd suggest to not even give me the link...

Fair enough, you could have just acknowledged my PM and I would have sorted it. Presumed it was fine.

Sorry lads but as much fun as I have had picking the actual draft the games have been a complete joke. It seems to be a bit of a clique when voting comes up. I clearly know bugger all anyway!

Someone will have a hard time picking from my side but enjoy.

All you missed was the "goodbye cruel world" at the end there.

Come on mate, chin up.

But yeah tbf you were a bit hard done in the current match.

I would probably take one of Nesta or Puyol and Serginho to have a left wing option. No other wide players to pick up in this group :(

Although I have a feeling Dan may want that one too!

The more I think about it the more I feel some of the people voting are complete idiots and have little to no football knowledge!

Maybe your team isn't as good as you think it is? In each of your match threads all you do is go on about how you can't believe the results and how your team is better than your opponents. Then you think whoever votes against you is an idiot. Perhaps showing some modesty and giving some credit to your opponent might help!

For what its worth I would have voted for you in the first game if you went with Salas up top from the start. Second game was very close for me. Could have gone either way really.

Some of what I am saying is sensationalist but I do genuinely believe the voting is a bit of a clique on here.

I have no issue with people voting against my side if they can be bothered to explain why. That is the main point. By MikeUpnorth's standard Dan has Ronaldo so he wins the entire competition.

It is bizarre.

A clique in what sense? A bunch of posters always vote against you? Its personal opinion at the end of the day. If a bunch of people don't like the look of your team they're always going to vote against it.

People don't explain why they voted in the vast majority of threads though it's two or three comments if you're lucky...that's not cliquey that's just lazy. And most of us are lazy when it comes to that so we can hardly complain about others doing the same! People just have different opinions, some people care as much about the system and how the players fit into it as they do about the quality of players whereas I think you care less about the system than most. Some people think Rivaldo is better than Rui Costa and that he's about the same level as Valeron at his peak, there's nothing wrong with that, it's an equally valid opinion...calling people idiots just because they don't agree with your opinions seems a bit childish.

I don't think it is childish to be baffled by how people have voted when I genuinely can't fathom out their opinions.

It seems people are too easily pleased with attacking flair and neglect to look at the defensive side of the game. With the back 5 I have there is no way on earth I should be bottom of the group, I have the two best centre halves in the competition not to mention one of the best keepers.

I can't for the life of me figure out how Dan got so many more votes with average players like Sylvinho, Juan, Pembrucano and Edu made up a large chunk of his side.

When you get comments like "one team has Ronaldo in it, the other doesn't" though I think it is fair to say it is a bit idiotic, no?

In the sense of I think some of the votes are rather tactical. .

I don't think the gap between mine and your team is as big as you make out. It could have gone either way - and the votes reflect that - you were winning until the last few hours.

With all due respect I think it is. It appears fat Ronaldo won it going off the comments which I find a little unfair especially as Nesta-Puyol is by far the best Centre half combo in the game.

By that rationale you should have this game sewn up as if they can't handle Ronaldo no one else will be able to!

Well, no, because he wasn't being entirely serious. He didn't simply vote for the other team because it had Ronaldo.

Are you saying Puyol's the second best centre back in the competition?

Thats what he said...

Yep, I rate Puyol there in that combination. I think it is the best combo by far.

I was pretty pissed of at one game as well but I got over it. It will pass.

United didn't qualify from their CL group. This can be strange like that as well. Part of the game and you just have to respect that.

In terms of group places do we want to go with vote difference (someone wins 12-5 they've got 7) or head-to-head? There's sure to be at least one group with two teams with the same points.

Vote difference can be very different depending on the amount for each match.

How was it done last time?

Your forwards are decidedly average and overrated. Goals win games son.

Head to head would be the fair option. Vote difference is largely dependent on when the games were held, how much discussion a game triggered, etc.

In the sense of I think some of the votes are rather tactical. .

I don't think that is the case personally. I did have you down as the team to beat in the group and was delighted to win that first game (where, frankly, you screwed up with that Ortega-Rui Costa pairing).

The surprising thing is the second game. Dan has a few tremendous players but his team wouldn't beat yours 4/5 times IMO. I don't think it is tactical or clique. Making it all-Brazilian gets kudos, which you may like or not but is an obvious and very transparent vote-winning strategy (much like picking certain United players, avoiding despised Pool players, etc).

Maybe you should have emphasised how much of a pushover his midfield is or tried the wide option earlier. By the time all that discussion took place most of the people associated with the game had voted and few "outsiders" chipped in, which didn't help.

Telling people they knew nothing about football didn't help either :smirk:

I think you have pretty much got it right there. If people are naive enough to fall for that then I think it goes to prove my point about lack of knowledge.

A few people have had my side down as a potential winner yet I've lost to a team containing some very average players.

I don't think it's naivety but being human.

It's good marketing (it has enough WC2002 elements to make it look like the WC-winning team despite it not being anywhere near as good) and a certain latitude that people will give him for keeping at it even when he was starting to be left with very average players. I suppose people also want to see whether he keeps at it picking Serginho and Belletti

Of course, as far as addressing the question of which team would win goes it is all bollocks but anyone could tell during the draft that if Dan was in their group he would have a few votes headstart for that. He meant it, it pays off, fair play to him.

No idea why but this whole episode reminds me of Jim Hacker's dilemma over emulsified high-fat offal tubes. People laugh, know that literally that's what they are, yet carry on eating them. It doesn't mean they know feck all about having a healthy diet though.

We could use the percentage of votes instead.

Doesn't matter how many votes then.
