He was a bit of a nutter but was a top top player on his day and also scorer of one of the best goals scored against United.

Barthez was so good, you wanted Seb Frey over him!

Your centre backs let you down, significantly.
Barthez was meant to replace Schmeichel. In fairness, he did pretty well, but I don't think I'm alone in having felt the Great Dane was being replaced with Grouchy Smurf. We assessed him every weekend relative to a legendary unbeatable beast of a goalie and formed our opinion accordingly. I saw the legend ship 6 the first time I watched United live, yet I was in awe of him anyway and just shrugged it as "every keeper has a bad day at the office". Barthez never got that from us.
I'm sure anywhere but in the UK people would rate him up there with the very best. Any Frenchman would likely be shocked I would even consider picking Frey ahead of him.
But the man has baggage, and that baggage is with the very same people who actually vote in this bloody thing! So I was opting for the safe hyped-up Football Manager legend that most wouldn't have a particularly strong opinion on. It was purely tactical.
I have particularly have one 12th man in mind who could also actually first choice.
I have two players who I unfortunately cant pick now who be perfect at the top of a diamond in midfield for Brians team. At least I don't think they've been picked....yet. Have had them down as players who'd go a miss though considering how deep the AM/Playmaker/10 was in that era.
Right am I due two picks then?
Having only picked ten so far.
Frey was a legend on CM0304 - I always used to flog Barthez as soon as I could.
Rood takes:
Stephen Carr

Rood's pick:
Shayven Given
Cheers Cling - Im going for the Irish vote
In fact Barthez was also my first choice and in hindsight i should have gone for him first as Im sure Carr would still have been there for next pick.
Anyway I reckon the top PL players are being underrated in this draft, a lot of average Serie A players have been picked - both Carr and Given were twice picked in PL Team Of The Year
You can't be having a go at me for picking Dida and then you pick Barthez.
It is swings and roundabouts really
I would say if you think that then there are certainly alot of average players from the PL era being picked up personally.
Mellberg, Brown, Lauren, Kewell, Hyypia, Edu, Heinze, Carr...
Don't think any of those are world beaters or club legends to be honest.
I don't think many players that have been picked are average. Players not considered to be picked are the ones that are average. There is the odd one out however but nothing major.
Coupet
Bugger - I though nobody had noticed him
