63% of Liverpool squad "asthmatic" - any substance to this article?

Re. this YT video:

The UK average of people with Asthma is 12%

Liverpool FC have 63% of their squad (22 players) who can legally take drugs (Salbutamol + Albutrol) for Asthma.

These are the same drugs that got Bradley Wiggins Banned for life.

I’ve done a little digging and I can’t find a single reputable report that says 63% of their squad is asthmatic. It’s all quite embarrassing, it feels like how they used to accuse us of buying the refs. We fell off so bad.

Didn't Scholes have asthma? He was also not the most athletic.

Do we actually know what % of any of PL teams have asthma? What if we have 70% and we're still shit?

Lets be honest, if we hade 70% of our players with asthma they would genuinely have it and we would be mis-managing it somehow.

This would be a massive story and journalists would be all over it, if there was anything reputable out there to follow... there isn't. Conspiracy theory.

But on the other hand, Klopp's contract conveniently expires after this next three year loop of injecting performance enhancers into his players arse.

Imagine if their expert scouting was signing players with asthma so they can pump them full of drugs under TUE's. More likely, they've a doctor who is giving out shoddy diagnoses.

The article doesn't mention Liverpool or the 63% figure.

Huh? I know. But the article states that 27.8% of players they studied had asthma and the info from other articles/reports that Liverpool has a squad where 63% have asthma. That's far larger. Ideally there needs to be a comprehensive study of the whole PL so we can see just how accurate each study is and if Liverpool is that high compared to the wider football league.

I believe this to be the case, but it's certainly interesting.

The thing is we don't know that 63% have asthma at Liverpool and we don't know the % at any other club. My understanding is that we have one unconfirmed source on that figure.

We know nothing of the sort. There isn’t a single credible source for this.

Edited. Indeed, we do need a PL wide study to confirm or deny but that probably won't happen.

I don't think it's a conspiracy at all. it's insanely easy to get signed classified with asthma, even more so if you're at a football club in the prem with dr's in your pocket.

We use these drugs in bodybuilding and the advantages they give are absolutely mind blowing and I can list them if interested. Combine these drugs with intense training and they will turn you into a machine. You don't need an inhaler, it's taken in pill format and it has a half life of 6 hours and clears your system in 30 and the effects are instant.

As one can see this story can be bs to some but others can understand there may be something else in it.

Do Liverpool even cover more ground than most teams?

I have seen some stats that say they don't, is the claim more about the number of sprints and the intensity?

I like how people excuse it by saying it’s normal for a bigger percentage of athletes to develop asthma. Yeah, because they all know the fecking script

If there's no actual evidence it's a conspiracy theory.

Who is Liverpool fitness coach? the plot thickens....... or does it all make sense now? :wenger:

https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team/staff/andreas-kornmayer

"The German served as his hometown club’s fitness coach under Louis van Gaal, Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola after being promoted to first-team duties in 2010, but opted to swap the Allianz Arena for Anfield following an approach from Jürgen Klopp.

The Reds boss had long admired Andreas’ work, crediting him with a role in Bayern’s 2012-13 treble-winning season, when the Bavarian club beat Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund to the Bundesliga title, before then also defeating them in the Champions League final at Wembley.

Kornmayer’s journey into football began at Munich University when he embarked on a course in sports science after studying medicine"

No. Leeds do most running I think.

After all this time you would think there would be a single investigative journo onto this. However, lads on the internet saying 63% without any source material quoted.

Not exactly the British Medical Journal...

As one can see this story can be bs to some but others can understand there may be something else in it.
Entirely feasible

I was reading this exact same quote in Conspiracy Theorists Weekly this morning, so it's got to be 100% legit.

Why do you think at United we're so far behind in the drugging and cheating stakes?

I vote we sack everyone in our Cheating and Drugging department forthwith as they're obviously doing a terrible job.

We NEED better cheats!!

Hope 'Ten Haag' means 'expert drug cheat fekker' in Dutch.

This is just what a conspiracy theory nutbag would say. Seriously some people need to get a critical view on stuff posted on internet. This claim was first posted on some irish blog styled site, then followed up on a random youtube channel. Nothing close to reliable. Should we start believing all "done deal transfers" articles on Daily Star etc as well ?

We are top half, but not near the top, for both distance covered and sprints.

Sorry but i'm not a nutbag.
Please respond to the article and not attack the persons.

Okay so what is the benefit of the purported PEDs?

I am not offering an opinion one way or another just trying to understand the accusation.

If we were doping, I suppose recovery, less injuries. Less need to rotate.

People talk about us as if we're doing something superhuman with the intensity of our play, like Armstrong climbing up Alpe d'Huez. When in reality, we're not in any sort of off the chart situation once you look at the numbers.

A few years ago, Bournemouth topped the league charts for both Distance Covered and Sprints for the season. That made me pause.

I take salbutomol for my asthma. Helps my long distance runs that's for sure.

I suppose that is true, but even then you do not play a number of games that in unheard of or even particularly unusual for top teams. It would surely revert to whether you were able to cover an unusual amount of distance at an unusual intensity in those matches.

I am not saying you don't dope as I honestly have no idea but I do wonder if part if it is because any side that has a very well organised press can feel a bit like playing a swarm of 15 men and it can feel a little unnatural.

Others making the accusation probably have more knowledge than me mind.

I do understand that but what I am asking is sort of the next logical conclusion. Yes it may be very easy to get and hide drugs that make you play like a machine, the next question would surely be "do they play like machines?"

If you have Asthma you don't have to hide the fact you are taken drugs for it. That is IF you have Asthma!.

As one can see this story can be bs to some but others can understand there may be something else in it.

It lands in the realm of conspiracy theory because it's unproven and it's logic is self-fulfilling.

Liverpool have a good season or any luck with injuries - evidence of PEDs.
Liverpool are performing poorly or suffer a few injuries - also evidence of PEDs because they're off-cycling (or whatever its called).

Basically as long as Liverpool is successful it's a ready-made excuse. Which is why it's the same as RAWK spending years saying that Ferguson has the FA in his pocket.
