6 realistic signings to improve us?

This will need to be a long term plan.
January is difficult, so i go:
1 Sean longstaff (yes really) long term matic replacement,
2 Wilf Zaha, with martial moved to #9, we need a left winger and a right, zaha can do both, with sancho on the right ( long term)
+ he wants out of palace.
3: sell the rest of the deadwood.

Not sure about 3 realistic signings at the moment as it's difficult to assess our style of play at the moment, but in January i'd welcome Longstaff and Paco Alcazar to help us out.
Longstaff because there is clearly interest and he seems to be an effective midfielder and also available. Alcazar because he is lethal at the moment and would instantly improve our attack - could be difficult to get though.

Jan Oblak
Jadon Sancho
Donny van de Beek

All of the above are contingent of the club qualifying for the Champions League.

I dont understand Redcaf fans .. why buy Chillwell when you got Brandon Williams knocking at the door from your own academy to take Shaws place, in say two years (if he really is that good) - the "spider" is clearly a role model for Williams

Definitive Transfers:

1: Maddison (tics all boxes - he is a good set piece taker, but is he "wow", good in traditions to United - as an outsider i would like Ward Prowse that bends it like Beckham - only for his set pieces, nothing more. His idol was Beckham)

2: Sancho (tics all boxes - this is the outsider as he holds the cards himself, everything else is speculation)

3: ? Dmc or Gk - Do de Gea want to play for United next season - has he got his stuff soted out, if not - are Henderson good enough to step up alongside Romero (that would be another testing period, United fans are probably tired of testing periods) - a GK is half the team, therefore the most important to sort out - hence why i don`t write up a number 3 at the moment)

Potentials:

Rice (but i dont think he want to leave West Ham at the moment - future captain at West Ham and all, and would he be a massive upgrade on Mctominay? - not so sure about that - and Rice originated as a DC)

Longstaff (he is still the undescribed one (his new nick) to me, but clearly valued which makes it interesting - in an ideal world he wants to play for Newcastle most of all, but we all know this is not an ideal world)

The dreamy one:

N`Golo Kante (he is 27 years old, and probably 28 - 29 before United can get him, then he is too old for that kind of transfer fee money) - i just had to write him up, big fan, all over the right places always

The Wild Card:

Neves (the portugese project and the chinese money at wolves will define much if he wants to come to United - don`t look to good at the moment, talking then about the project over there)

Why is he an acceptable Matic replacement? He hasn't proven he is good enough at this level yet.

I don't know the CM market well enough.

Ideally I'd go for these three
Sancho
Deep lying playmaker
Attacking playmaker

But to be honest I have no idea who fits the bill for 2 and 3. I'd love for us to sign Maddison but ideally we need somebody who can dictate play. But he'll in the absence of the same.

Seriously who are the big up and coming CMs in the game? Why are Longstaff and Rice apparently on everybody's lists.

First we need to stick to a formation. I thought once Ole took over, it would be a lot different in terms of holding a position and a player played in the same position week after week so he can make it his own but nothing has changed. People are rotated throughout the squad and positions. It's making me really nervous every time we go out on the field. Secondly, we are so slow on the ball and through towards the goal. Makes me sick to my stomach to watch smaller teams like Wolves make a beautiful pass through the middle and find that final ball, we only have Pogba to do that. Even he gets tired of it when too many passes go out wide and out back. He misses his position and therefore has no idea where others are. No one touch passes, no turn and run, no beating the player 1v1.

Lots of work to do yet!

Sancho
Maddison/Fernandes/Eriksen
Richarlison

4-2-3-1

Lindeløf and Pogba sold to Spain. Ødegaard part of the deal.

I´d love to see

............... De Gea................

Bisska Koulibaly Maguire Shaw

.......Ndidi......McTominay......

Sancho Ødegaard James

...............Martial..............

Maddison seems logical and likely. Sancho, you'd hope will be attainable. Probably someone to play further back in the midfield perhaps Longstaff if he develops further? Maybe Rice, if the price is decent. If we can keep De Gea, Pogba and Maguire grows into the leader at the back, AWB keeps progressing and James keeps his performance up we'd potentially have an excellent team with those players.

DM-Florentino Luis: Only just turned 20 but is already displaying signs of being a extremely well rounded DM. Can pass to a very good level, has excellent composure, physically strong and quick and is very strong in the tackle. Looks an absolute monster DM in the making.

CM/AM-Houssem Aouar: Turned 21 in June and has already shown why he's so highly rated at Lyon. Plays as a box to box #8 with excellent ball retention ability under pressure. And off the ball he's a dream for managers who adopt a high pressing style due to his extremely high work rate. Also a very creative player who can break lines with his passing and dribbling and is someone who sure does express himself whilst in possession of the ball which we're lacking. A very well rounded player who would fit into our team like a glove IMO.

RW-Jadon Sancho/Federico Chiesa: I actually wouldn't mind either tbh. Both players are extremely talented and I would be overjoyed if we signed either one. Chiesa is excellent on the ball and has a brilliant first touch and reminds me somewhat of the former Arsenal great Robert Pires in some ways. Excellent technique when it comes to dribbling, good pace and a real know how in one v ones whilst in possession playing on the wing. Also comes with the added bonus of being very adept at pressing from the front which makes Chiesa a real gem IMO. Sancho we all know about.

Strengthening the aforementioned positions with those players would IMO galvanise our team.

Can't argue with that really, sounds a plan to me.

Only one I've seen nothing of is Luis, although I know he's been hyped for a little while now. Any worries about him following in the footsteps of Sanches?

Sanches is more box to box in comparison IMO and relied alot on his physical strength and acceleration when coming through the youth ranks, which caught up with him in the mens game. With the benefit of hindsight I'd say he was quite limited as a CM.

Florentino Luis at 20 is showing signs of developing into a very mobile #6 with excellent passing ability, excellent tackling and a fantastic ability to anticipate and block passing lanes, which is quite rare to see in such a young player. If he can carry on developing the way he has, then I foresee a player with huge potential due to his mobility, ground coverage and excellent ability to tackle which is very similar to our very own AWB. Then you have his ability to pass at a very high level long or short, which makes him a very very interesting option for us as a #6/DM.

If Ole's insisiting on sticking to this 4-2-3-1 formation then a new no.10 is a top priority - Lingard and Mata aren't good enough.

I like them both as squad players but we need more creative quality in that position.

Cool, thanks for that. Having scurried away to watch some highlight vids I agree that he definitely looks a fantastic prospect.

I can't see it being a move we make but would love to be proven wrong.

Exactly this, he's the most sought after young winger in world football right now. Far from realistic.

Why is he unrealistic ? Dortmund will sell if they get a high bid - Sancho knows a lot of our players and have lived in Manchester. I am not saying we are his first choice (I am not that naive) - but how many other clubs than us can both attract him and afford him ? 6-7 ?

If we are getting a player who can score goals - Timo Werner is the obvious choice for me. 66 goals in 118 matches for Leipzig, still only 23 years old. No brainer.

****** Mauricio Pochettino ****

Mctominay/Fred - Fabian Ruiz

That's a good lineup but I wouldn't get Chilwell especially with Brandon Williams coming through. Also, I don't think Rashford is good enough as a LW or a ST. In fact, Rashford hasn't proven much. He's more an off the bench player. Fabian Ruiz, Jadon Sancho and a CDM like Thomas Partey would benefit us.

Similar to the end of last season, we need a right winger (preferably left footed), and midfielder (preferably two).
Having got rid of Lukaku and Smalling, it would also be nice to have cover for forward positions and either a CB, either as cover or a partner for Maguire.

I don't see us being able to get Sancho (no CL, no title prospects, no big-name manager), he's not realistic to me.
In Ajax's last CL run, Ziyech seemed to be a good left-footed winger. Maybe Draxler.

I think we need both a defensive midfielder (McTominay isn't that good) and a passer behind Pogba. If we're lucky, we find a Carrick who can do both. Any one of Verrati, Paredes, Neves or Pjanic for the passing role. This guy (Tousart) looks like a fairly impressive DM+passer. Ndidi for a purely defensive option.

Yea, I was thinking about which youth Lb we had at United. Completely forget about Brandon Williams.

Rashford is still young. He has showed more at his age than Salah did when he was the same age. He just need a manager to unleash his potential. There is definitely a good player in there. I haven’t seen much of Partey. I feel like such an addition will be at the cost of Fred. However, I would like to see Fred get some more opportunities this season before fans begin to further write him off.

Any team that we cobble together that has lindelof as a starter will not be good enough to win the PL in my eyes. We have to look to upgrade him with quality to complement Maguire

I swear Chilwell is most overrated on here, anyone has watched him all years? Everyone is talking about him as if he was Carlos and we must get him at all cost. He's nothing special.

The number of people who have mentioned Longstaff.

These are keyboard warrior fans who read the Caf, watch youtube highlights and think he is going to solve our problems.

https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/c649tc/sean_longstaff_vs_scott_mctominay_1819_season/

All those who mention Longstaff, have a look at those comparisons.

He has not had 1 full season, he has been on the bench for a game, and subbed of at 67 in other game.

To spend £50m on a player like him who is not a major upgrade to McT is a joke.

With how bad our transfers and how the club has been brought to its knees, someone would have to describe realistic because right at this moment, just even being linked to someone like Zaha would be unrealistic and not because Palace would play hard ball. (Or may I add history between United and zaha)
It would be down to the fact we are no longer a great option for a player to join as we don't seem to have a definitive direction.

I find that a tod pessimistic, 4 games into the season, United 2 points behind forth place, and with two of the contenders behind on the table. Not to mention that United have missed 2 penalties and been unlucky not to win all games. Sign.
