6 realistic signings to improve us?

We need a right winger more than any other type player. We have literally gone over a decade without signing one and don't have a single one in the entire squad. It's utterly ridiculous.

We need to have a CF first.

No way. Martial and Rashford are both better as a centre forward than anyone in our squad is at right wing. They might not be Aguero/Kane level players but our right wing options are laughable.

Based on our current formation our pressing needs are
1. A destroyer DM
2. A creative AM
3. A right winger

For the DM spot I'd pick Ndidi but seeing our current trend of getting English players I would be realistic and say Rice.

For the AM position I wouldn't bother spending money on Maddison until I've seen Gomes play. They are both young and getting Maddison will most likely reduce Gomes game time especially seeing how good Gomes is. A bit unrealistic but I'm hoping Ed can perform some miracle and get Eriksen in January which seems more ideal as Gomes could still get a chance to take over from Eriksen in the future.

For RW we go all out for Sancho and hopefully he wants to come to us

So basically get Eriksen in January. Get Sancho and Rice next summer.

--------------------------------De Gea?--------------------------

AWB-------Lindelof-------------Maguire----------Shaw

--------------------Rice-----------------Pogba? -----------------

Sancho------------------Eriksen----------------Rashford

------------------------------Martial------------------------------

Is Rice really any better than McTominay? If McT was English he would be in the English team. Seems an unnecessary signing. Someone physical like Ndidi would be my preference.

I'd go down the route of a technical midfielder

it was clear yesterday that we couldn't keep the ball

to be honest I think we could do with a player like N'Didi too but a good passer would help us control games better and create more

yesterday all our midfield really provided was hard work which will only take you so far

I agree our RW options are laughable, but if we had someone putting in crosses all the time who would be on the end of them. Both Martial and Rashford drift out from the CB's instead of being on their shoulder. We need a Prolific goalscorer that will get the tap ins as well as hold up the ball for the runners.

Arthur, Van De Beek, Sancho, Umtiti, Chilwel, Werner.

RW doesn't always mean crosses, Martial has also already scored from a cross this season. RW and 6 and 10 are certainly more important than CF at the moment

We need a specialist #6. These guys look good:
Bruno Guimarães (Paranese)
Florentino Luís (Benfica)
Otávio (Bordeaux)
Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester)

I heard we scouted Florentino Luís. My preference in for one of the first 3. Those should be value options. Here their WhoScored stats for the current season (or last in the case of Brazil). Nicely coloured Green = good. Red = bad. Stats are average per game except: Yellow, Red, Goals, Assists, MotM, Own-goal. "Age" is Years, Months

A Right Winger. An attacking MF. A MF.

I think we will buy a MF in January. Then we will go for Sancho in the summer. He will cost a fortune though.

Aside from the midfield, we need a top class centre forward. Someone who can guarantee 20+ league goals per season.

I wonder how much Zidane wants Pogba. Would RM agree to a swap deal with Ødegaard? I wonder.

it would have to be 3 attacking minded players

a playmaker in midfield, a RW and a Striker or SS

Sancho + Eriksen.. Fraser if not possible.. Maddison a good shout too

And a substitute for Lindelof who will never be a consistent performer/winner

I hope Tuanzebe gets plenty of minutes in our cup games this season to prove himself along with Gomes, Greenwood and maybe Garner. If 2-3 of them make it it will save us a lot of money, not least because they play in positions where we are weak.

Tuanzebe is more imposing than Lindlöf.

Garner offers creativity from the base of midfield, and Gomes further up the pitch.

Greenwood might be the most clinical finisher at the club.

Did not mention Chong but it is still early days for all of our youngsters and hopefully our lack of transfer business in these positions were at least partly due to their promise and not penny pinching. Then we can add Sancho and Digne, what could possibly go wrong.

Very underwhelming looking team. I hope we will not waste our money like this.

Get Sancho, Maddison and Mbappe; that should do the trick with what we already have. Get the Glazers to spend 2-3 years worth of transfer money in one go; pay what it takes. Buy Ole those three players; there's a good chance it'll make Pogba and De Gea buy-in and want to stay, and the Glazer's will make their money back by the bucket load over the next few years, what with all our Premier League and Champions League titles, not to mention sponsorship...

It's okay, just dreaming...

Whilst I'm at it though, Matic and Rojo out, add Erickson for maturity, and Chilwel for LB competition...

Rebuild complete.

Could that team/squad win stuff, and for years...?

Whats wrong with the team? You have goal scoring midfielder in VDB, one to dictate the tempo in Arthur and one good in defending who can send long pases too.
Umtiti is a risk with his injuiries i can agree but i think he can regain his form. Chilwel is not the best on his position in the moment but is still very young and he can improve a lot. Better than Shaw already. I dont see better avaliable option. Cavani/Werner from the bench when is needed is very good option. The only problem is depth in midfield.

And yes, James is more productive than Rashy!

Absolutely! I can't believe how RW has been completely neglected. I wasn't even happy with Valencia there (so one footed and always just ran into dead ends) but at least he was signed as a RW. We signed Sanchez...played him on the left....we sign James ...and he looks better on the left!

Sancho would probably be dream signing for RW wouldn't he? I don't know how realistic he is but we're still Manchester United - get back in the Champions League and it should be do-able surely?

We need so much that it's hard to narrow down another two. But midfield is obviously most pressing. Don't know if it's because we just played Leicester but Ndidi and Maddison would be a good idea. Very difficult to take 2 of Leicesters midfield though. So let's say we get one of them.

We don't have a prolific striker do we? How about someone like Timo Werner? Is he gettable? Where does that leave Rashford and Martial? I don't know but we're an absolute mess and I don't think either is good enough.

So if I can have only 3...

Sancho
Ndidi
Werner

Does that make sense?

-----------------------De Gea------------------
Wan Bissaka----Lindelof----Maguire----Shaw
------------McTominay------Ndidi------------
----------------------Pogba--------------------
Sancho-----------Werner--------------James

I know Pogba isn't strictly a 10 but I think he's better further forward and I'm just trying to do what I can with only 3 signings.

I'd be happy for Pogba to go and use the cash to rebuild further. Replace Poga and Shaw next. Do the above in the next window.

Add Maddison and Chilwell the next window. And that becomes quite a team. Easier said than done I know!

Well, both Pogba and di Maria joined United before the club's decline had become as pronounced as it is now - when there was more of an expectation that losing out on top 4 (and thus CL qualification) was more of an exception and less of the 'rule' that it has more become since then.

It's one thing for a player to believe that a single season outside of the CL is OK, but real doubts set in when they start to think that it could easily be more than just a single season. Eriksen will be 28.5 years old when next season kicks off, so I don't think he'd be willing to gamble on United for the remainder of his career.

We missed out on UCL football 2 of the 3 years before Pogba arrived, we've missed out on it once since he arrived

From the little I have seen from Buendia (Norwich), I think he could improve us massively either on the right or behind the striker. He's usually on the right flank in formation, but drifts centrally.

Very energetic, great technique, passing range is good and seems to be an excellent set piece taker.

Still young, turns 23 in December.

Wonder how much Norwich would ask for him?

That's certainly an unfashionable choice. Played a helluva game against Citeh that's for sure. Keen to see if he can keep up the same level of performance.

err... what? Martial over Werner???

From within the PL...

Forward type players;
Grealish, Lanzini, Maddison, David Brooks, Zaha, Callum Wilson

Defensive midfielders;
Ndidi, Doucoure, Phillip Billing

Central midfielders;
Lewis Cook, McGinn, Neves

Centre half;
Boly, Diop

Sticking with “realistic” options (while we would all love for Sancho to join United, he isn't exactly realistic and the signing would be contingent on some things beyond our control)...
  • Olmo (Dinamo Zagreb): kinda wasted in the Croatian league, honestly – particularly after a stellar U-21 EURO turnout. Don't think he's in any way less talented than Maddison, but won't cost as much while being quite versatile as a side midfielder, attacking midfielder or forward. Spend the leftover £30-40 million on a leftback, which continues to be a problematic area...or possibly Camavinga from Rennes as an investment for the future or Lisandro from Ajax (versatile defender/midfielder).
  • Szoboszlai (RB Salzburg): lovely midfield talent (comparable to Pjanić at Lyon/Roma, only more physical) who could control the proceeding once he's more mature and going under the radar of late because of Håland's ridiculous goal-scoring exploits. In Muppetlandia both will join United...
  • Guimarães (Athletico Paranaense): every once in a while Brazil produces gritty all-action midfielders like Allan or Casemiro, and Guimarães might be next in the production line. Needs to be more disciplined but that will come with experience.

By no means the most experienced or ready-to-deliver Front-6, but there's a lot of talent in there (which aligns with our supposed modus operandi) and harnessing even 80-90% of it will give you a really good unit. Plus, you can switch things around because of the versatility of all three (e.g. if Sancho joins, you can move Olmo to midfield).

In:
Sancho - 120m
Maddison - 75m
Longstaff - 45m

Out:
Pogba - 150m

Net spend - 90m

Let’s face it we won’t spend over 100m net next summer, judging from the way we spent last 2 summer. So selling 1 star player who wants out, and buying another 1 star player, 1 good player and 1 decent young player with potential would be our best hope.
