360 finally died - anyway to get it replaced by shops?

PS3 has been great for me, its quite a good kit, until yesterday day.

I was starting it up to play a game and the drive started making a few noises I hadn't heard before, like a slower dud dud dud then got better. It all runs fine and same as always but serious :nervous:

feck sake his didn't end up going bust did it

Clean it? Will that fan trick do the job?

Hmm. I will have to wait and see. The good thing is I've only ever heard it that one time. I played it today for a brief while and it was fine.

If you have been playing a lot of BDs on it, it's now not going to fail. It actually gives it a good workout. The fan on mine only goes up when playing a high bit rate movie (not a game). What I mean by "goes up" is that if you turn off the sound you can hear it humming.

25% games (mainly my son)
5% DVD movies
5% BR movies
65% downloaded avi movies

You wrap your head in a towel so that you won't notice that the console isn't working.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Seriously though, what is the towel trick?

The red lights of death began flashing on mine last night, wouldn't let me do anything. I'm so pissed off.

Cheers. I've only had the thing a month - I bought it off a mate!

It's actually interesting. If they had not designed it so poorly, then Microsoft could have owned the generation and put PS3 to bed a long time ago. However, it's the fact that they rushed it out to try to compete with Sony that led to the design flaws in the first place, because if they had launched with PS3 they would have got owned. The way it is, both are about equal ATM. Chicken and Egg.

I agree.

What puzzles me (and I might be missing the point, or stupid, I'm no computer expert so forgive me) is that there is a red light function in the first place. The green light comes on when it's on, the green light is not on when it's off. In having the red light, were they admitting that it's the signal for when they know it's gone wrong... because they knew it would?!

Well, most electronics nowadays have some sort of self diagnostics or other, it's not uncommon. Even the Amiga 500 would flash its red power LED different numbers of times on power up if it felt something was wrong. PS3 has a combination of beeps and a yellow light.

That's fair enough then.

I did check out the towel trick on YouTube though, looks risky to say the least - particularly when one comment was that it set the towels on fire!

think mines fecked up now
was playing fifa earlier, just finished a game and went back to the menu then the screen starting flickering and loads of lines flashed up. The game froze so I had to try a restart, now when I turn it on again my telly says no signal.
I can hear the loading up in the background but can't get past the blank screen, no red lights on the front though unless that is still to come

I wonder what the failure rate of machines that they actually get to the shops is within, say, 3 years? Close to 100% perhaps?

That sounds more like a connection problem, try replacing the cables...

haven't a clue really, think its connected by the 2 sets of 3 coloured plugs red, yellow, white and the other 3 or something like that anyways

think the HDMI cable in the back of my telly is from the dvd recorder

Yes, it's component. It's not the cable, something has gone wrong with the box. If there is no audio, it looks to me that there is a problem with the DACS. This will not cause a RROD, so you're fecked. Try swapping the HDMI cable, ssuming that your XB360 has a HDMI port.

Devil-inside,

Leave your 360 next to a radiator for a day. Then proceed to switch it on and off constantly....and result, you'll get your RROD. Send it to Micro$oft, and get it back within 10 days hopefully.

Its sucks I know but its the only thing you can really do providing you dont fix your audio problem.

whats DACS?
I could never get the High Def feature to work on my xbox, had t play it with normal setting, i'll try playing around a bit

RedKaos, thanks but hopefully I won't have to be that drastic just yet

think it is fecked as you said, played around with flicking the switch to Hi Def version and tried turning it on only to be greeted by the red ring, goes away if I revert back to normal. Think it's probably easier to find the web link and return it

Just make sure it actually gets the red lights proper if you chose to send it off, otherwise the wankers either charge you for the repairs, or simply send it back.

Or if you're still under the one year manufacturers warranty just send it off I suppose.

Just proceed to overheat the poor fecker then, and in most cases they'll give you a completely new console - the quicker the better, Left 4 dead is already out :)

Can we talk about the PS3 failure rate please.

I here it is significantly less than that of a 360.

It is, good engineering on behalf of Sony there, unlike those Micro$oft cnuts who proceeded to rush the 360 for the sake of profits.

Mine just went. Knew it was going to happen one day! Lasted 2 years and a bit before i got the lights. :(

Luckily i have a PS3 and a Wii as well so i'm not as heartbroken as i assumed would have been. I'm thinking of just selling my 360 when i get it back anyway, and getting an Elite as a free gift when my phone contract expires in a few months time.
