2021 Summer Olympics (Tokyo)

MARCELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahahsgdhhahshsgsgsh i can't velieve igtgtt

Absolutely amazing. What a brilliant day this was in track and field.

Is it too late to scrap penalties and share Euro 2020? I feel a petition coming on...

Hughes would have needed a PB just to get Bronze. But still a jump start is poor after you’ve seen your teammate already get DQ.

The lad feels bad as it is, just keep putting the boot in why don't you.

The BBC's interviews have been awful this Olympics. Every time someone has had a disappointing result they just seem to want to rub it in.

"You must be incredibly disappointed with that terrible mistake you made. Tell us how disappointed you are about the terrible mistake."

"You had to watch the race from the side because you made a terrible mistake. Tell us how you managed to make such a terrible mistake?"

"Surely you must feel like this terrible mistake has cost you an amazing opportunity. Talk us through whether you think this terrible mistake has cost you an amazing opportunity."

Yeah and Denise made a good point that he should have put hand up if nervous in the blocks, has missed a huge opportunity to win a medal with no Brommell in the final who won't get run out of it next time. Thought he would learn from Prescod's mistake but clearly not and just followed him in the daft stakes.

Mad to think 9.80 would've tied for 4th in 2012. What a stupidly stacked pool that was

And men's high jump! That lad's crazy, I've never seen anyone get that excited about winning.
Yeah but that's Tamberi. He's been one of the best for years, we pretty much knew he'd medal it was just a matter of material. Plus he had credit from Rio, where he was going as the favourite and then broke his leg just before the olympics

Late to the thread but so happy I was watching the a Olympics earlier. The Rojas gold and world record brought a big smile to my face then the moment in the men's high jump with Barshim and Tamberi shared the gold was beautiful to see as well.

So like Rowing for Team GB
We're strong in rowing too, but obviously not to the level were we would go into the olympics and expect 6-7 medals with at least a couple golds. 0 golds in fencing for Italy didn't happen since 1900

If only the Italians had offered to share the Euro championship last month like this Italian just did.

Oh Ireland have lodged an objection against the Italian lads hurdling technique in a bid to take his place in the final. They claim he was hooking the hurdles.

It's not like the Irish to lodge an objection to get into the finals after losing.

This is going to be a very chastening track and field for GB, but most of us who are in the know are aware that it has been coming and it has been a case of gradually diminishing returns for years now.

The sport suffers from chronic underfunding and lack of support at grass roots level. A complete disaster might be the only thing that will serve as a wake up call.

Yeah you could well be right on that and our field events is utterly dire because we aren't even able to hit the qualifying standards for championships which is worrying to say the least

To give some insight into Tamberi and why he and Barshim opted to share gold instead of going for the jump off

In 2016 Tamberi won every event he took part in, he was ranked N1 in the world going into the olympics and was the heavy favourite to win gold...then he broke his leg a month before the olympics

Barshim became the favourite in Rio after Tamberi's injury, but was pipped to gold by Drouin, who hadn't jumped well going into the olympics. Since then he took over the sport and dominated pretty much every event, but still needed that validation of olympic gold, which would be the first ever for his country

They've been competing against each other for several years, they're friends, and the choice here was...lose the chance at a historic(for barshim)/emotional(Tamberi) gold medal for the chance to...win a gold medal, but not share it with a friend....
