2021 American Civil War

I didn't know which thread to put this in so I'll just post it here. Did I interpret one of the comments here accurately? Is this person really saying he doesn't think slavery was evil?

(1) I don't believe race-based slavery was evil. I don't want to bring it back, but I don't demonize it either.

Yep. It's part of the "it was a different time and we can't judge people using our values" arguments. Heard it all the time in the South, except they usually skipped over the "I don't want to bring it back" part.

I'm not sure that's the line of argument here. This person seems to genuinely think it wasn't evil.

Reminds me of when we toured a plantation in southern LA we asked the lady tour guide where the slaves used to live. She said the slave quarters are not there anymore and “we don’t have slaves anymore either, pity”.

A Trump supporter who stormed the Capitol told book author the rioters weren't there to 'steal things' or 'do damage': 'We were just there to overthrow the government'

Pretty straight forward if you ask me. The only question remaining is that with the GOP trying to make the Qanon woman a political suicide martyr and gaslighting the events of the day to normalise right-wing political violence, when will they attempt the next Reichstag moment?

Trump supporters are pretty special. "No your honor, I'm not guilty of petty theft or criminal damage! The only thing I'm guilty of is treason!"

The HBO Qanon doco is mental. I’ve read plenty about the cult before but seeing it on screen is bananas.

It was wild wasn’t it!?

Have you watched all the way to the end?

Yep. Watched it in a day yesterday. An episode while I cooked. Another on the Peloton. Still felt like I’d lost a day to it.

It wasn’t even that ‘good’ but certainly compelling. Certainly gave me an idea of just how it’s taken hold in America. Gave me oodles of empathy for those who take the bait.

So… do you think Q gave himself away in the end?

Hey, don't leave me this a riddle! I haven't seen it and I wanna know! Seriously actually. Did they interview one of those 8chan owners? (If I'm not confusing websites now.)

I don't have HBO and there's only so much time I want to spend on QAnon. I've read some articles already, so I'd rather just have the spoiler. ;)

8chan's owner is some old racist dude, his racist kid is Q. The kid is interviewed a lot and maybe tells on himself by mistake. The quote is [from wikipedia): "I've spent the past ... almost ten years, every day, doing this kind of research anonymously. Now I'm doing it publicly, that's the only difference.... It was basically ... three years of intelligence training teaching normies how to do intelligence work. It was basically what I was doing anonymously before, but never as Q". Watkins then corrects himself, saying "Never as Q. I promise. Because I am not Q, and I never was"

Both dad and son are interviewed, I believe, and also the original creator who's now not a fan.

Yeah I think the dude in RSA was the original, but then the father/son combo took it over.

They’re absolute pieces of shit, too. All of them. I don’t see how the film maker didn’t feel the need to shower every 5 minutes.

Thanks! That sounds exactly like what was already suggest in two or three longer articles I read in the fall (I think it was) - except the guy now also kinda admitted to it.

Give the podcast I linked above a listen. They interview the creator of 8chan, who goes into the father/son owners who essentially stole it from him and then took over the Q account.

There's an alex jones interview from a couple years back with an ex CIA guy who says Q is an intelligence agency operation

Someone once wrote in one of the threads about American politics that there are no good/decent republicans or something like it. I remember thinking it was maybe a bit much and surely some of them are okay people. I’m maybe blinded by the fact that I get most of my information on red/libcafe, but I’m more and more inclined to agree with what he said. At least I can’t remember hearing a republican speak with any dignity other than Mitt Romney.

So for those who know more than me, does a halfway decent republican politician exist at this point?

My trumper uncle just posted "we're supposed to listen to these guys who have been paid by cnn in the last few months?"

Up until her first question I was half convinced Cheney was going to do a heel turn. Nope. Went straight after Trump.

Hodges is about ready to get on the table and scream. There is so much rage bubbling under that guy and rightly so.

I think there are a few decent ones. Two are on this committee.

No.

I don't know what the Republican Party was like in the past but when I look at it today, I see a party full of crazy people and grifters.

If anything I would use the word "scary" as well. They've become a scary party, and seem to be eating up any anti-left conspiracy theory.
