Just like with every other religious prediction about a certain event happening, the leaders of the religion will re-double their grift & spin a cocksure yarn about a future development, far enough away that they won’t lose too many of their deluded flock from the ranks, but close enough to keep the intensity of the fever dream acute.
I have been deliberating this - realistically there are so, so few courses of action that are utterly irrefutable, that they cant just create some bizarre alternate reality to pretend. Basically one of the only things I can think of would be a live execution.
