That sucks! I remember back in 2011, my uncle who I was really close to, was next to me jumping up and down celebrating at tanks invading a Syrian city after peaceful protests, it was never the same between us since that day, now I only talk to him at most once a year.

I don't know how you solve this without disbanding the police. The extreme right wing infiltration of the police force is too deep rooted.

It seems little talked about but how close were we to a far more serious event? I suspect we could have ended up with kidnapped and/or murdered senators quite easily. I still can't believe how easy it was for Y'all Qaeda to gain access.

I saw an article or two on the subject this morning. The Senate was apparently just seconds away from a potential disaster and full breach.

That's something that crossed my mind. Just imagine someone from a Jihad group went in with a bomb. I know your standard middle Eastern looking person wouldn't have got far with the clan that broke in but white people have been known to be radicalised by Islam.

At this point, every police officer in the land should have to prove where they were on the day.

I’m sure the attending number is ridiculously tiny, but that whole country has a very disturbing trend of facism running through its police force, which is often filled with ex military folks.

It’s a massive problem.

Let’s just take a step back here and pretend we aren’t living in this batshit timeline and it’s 2014 again...the president of United States has spent the last 2 months refusing to accept the results of the election, has phoned up governors threatening them to “find 11k votes” and instructed his supporters to STOP THE STEAL and March on the capital on the day the results are being confirmed. These supporters contained members of armed services, police departments and far right activists. Some of them were armed for war. This is real life - not a 24 episode. And if it was a 24 episode Bauer would probably be fecking MAGA.

For months I’ve been against the idea of locking up your opponents and the idea of social media censoring people - it’s an incredibly dangerous path. However, this is an attempted coup by fascists. There’s no other way to describe it now. All the hyperbolic nonsense about trump being a fascist turned out to not be nonsense. And unless the state comes down hard on all of these seditious cnuts I can’t help but think one of them who took part in the riot will be president in my lifetime. This has eery parallels to the putsch. People are talking about civil war in America - it’s already happening but the State doesn’t seem to even know. And the other side isn’t that small in number anymore. At least 15% seem genuinely batshit crazy. There’s no “reconcile” here - they need to be crushed otherwise it’s just going to grow and grow. America really is fecked unless it takes steps now. It needs to start by expelling Cruz and Hawley, impeaching Trump and then trialling him for fecking treason.

From the released footage and information about pipe bombs, radios/earpieces, those restraining straps...literally feels like it was moments away from happening.

Hats off to the officer who used his firearm, he’s gotta live with the fact he killed someone...but that could have been a pivotal moment doing so.

I think over here the press would have identified whoever is responsible for the security there and they would resign or be sacked. Maybe that's happened in the US, I don't know.

Pence, Cruz and rubio will for sure try... possibly Tom Cotton
And then the big question is will a trump run (don, Don Jnr or ivanka) and if they do will they carry most of the current trump base into 2024... because if they do and lot of people stay in the field they will walk the nomination... its going yo require the likes of haley, pence, cruz and Rubio to drop out early and coalesce around one of the others.

I have to be honest and say I think there is a very realistic possibility of something bad happening at Bidens inauguration... I'm not sure what crowds are going to be allowed but there must be a real possibility of some trump nutters returning with bombs etc

Could they ban crowds totally? ... would be sensible ref covid anyway

It's probably out of fear, he isn't a decent human being, I remember him saying something like "I hope the regime obliterates them all before they spread around the country", it could be like Stockholm Syndrome? Since he had no direct benefits from the regime except becoming more broke and staying unemployed.

But no matter, fascists tend to make really stupid or cowardly people love them, and I think there are similarities between those people and Trump supporters.
