Thoughts on if an increase in COVID, be it real or sensationalized, will affect voter turnout enough to favor one side?

I believe the Trump fanatics are willing to literally die to vote for their cult leader. It is a literal war, a do or die in their mindset.

just a reminder that during the primaries, mainstream news openly discussed Bernie rounding up people and questioned whether he would execute Chris Matthews in central park. And also comments about how Sanders winning a primary was "like the nazi's invading france".

Meanwhile Kamala laughs at throwing parents in jail for truancy = YAS QUEEN!!!!!!! CONVERSE IS MY JAM :wenger:

I used to work a few blocks from there. Very surreal.
The sci fi dystopian Blade Runner 2049 was trending and yeah I can see why!

GND or whatever they are calling it - Nancy Pelosi

These people are just as bad the republicans who are outright denying climate change is even happening.

Did anyone see the Sam Seder interview with the Lincoln Project guy? I mean sure, enemy of your enemy and all. But what an unpleasant ally they are.

Increased for what reason exactly?

I get there's the bigger looming threat from China/Russia, but surely it's best directing investment into something like cyber warfare.
he mentioned china in the article.

We're back in an era of great power competition with the usual suspects, so cyber is going to be a main part of it.

Military spending needs to up in various areas, so yes.

100%. It's far more important to buy more shiny things to kill human beings than to raise wages or provide healthcare or reform environmental regulations.

Can't the money for areas that need attention be redirected from other military spending? It seems little tone deaf in a country that has big social issues and already spends a relatively large chunk of its budget (to my knowledge) on the military.

No. We need more death things.

If he says he is going to reduce it, he loses the election quite likely. He can do what he wants afterwards, right now is not the time to be suggesting a cut. If Biden had said anything else, #defundTheMilitary would have been trending.

I am not very good with American history and how the country turned so partisan in modern times. Can anyone recommend me a good book as an introduction? My wife and I find American politics very intriguing indeed.

You could have a look at these, basically 1960-80

There may be some areas that can be reduced while others require more investment based on needs. I don't view a strong military and addressing social needs as mutually exclusive. Adding an extra 50billion to the defense budget is a drop in the bucket compared to the trillions in social spending required. Just end all loopholes and tax the rich more.
