There is no “moment”. He needs to pick someone who has the aptitude to be President and equally someone he gets along with.

He doesn't need to pick someone he gets along with. Many Presidents had VP they didn't particularly get on well with especially before serving together. FDR-Truman, JFK-LBJ, Bush Sr. Called Reagan's plans Voodoo Economics, Trump-Pence, etc

Troublingly, I'm hearing Susan Rice's stock is on the rise. :nervous:
Not surprising given that rebuilding diplomatic relations would be wonderful to delegate to someone else given the mess that everything is in. They are probably thinking in place of a superhero Sec of State you could put Rice at VP to help and then focus on the recovery.

He is probably more familiar/comfortable with her than some other names at the top as well.

Indeed, which is why he may select her as a compromise between Harris and Warren.

Why is it troubling?

I tend to look at VPs from the perspective of what kind of President would they make. Rice has never been an elected official and her son is a Republican (a MAGA supporter time boot).

Among the contenders, only Warren appears to have the sensibility and policy experience to be President.

Not familiar enough with her to know if she's different from Harris and the other unknowns supposedly on the list.
The party and Biden will only consider Warren if they know what they're getting; after Super Tuesday they see a solid team player and she must have reassured them if she's in contention.

Didn't the Biden team already unofficially state it would be an African American woman? Warren seems like she could be much more influential/effective in a different capacity.

not African American, but pretty certain they said the VP choice would be a woman.

What’s the story on Dodd and the Dems being mad at him cos he said something bad about Harris?
I read this article earlier but I couldn’t figure out why they were so pissed at Dodd.
.Politico article on Dodd and Harris
Is it because he’s bringing it up and people hoped it would have been forgotten?

It's kinda the worst kept secret anyway if that's truly his pick.
He needs a very well spoken attack dog so to speak - and Kamala checks those boxes. The far left will be even less happy though.

But his winning strategy explicitly excludes the left. It's a high-risk high-reward plan to remake the party base that is succeeding, on the back of Trump disilliusionment and Covid.

This is true. It will be interesting to see though how Biden and Co will try to hold the DNC together where Hillary failed miserably. Oddly I give him more chance not just because he s already been working with the likes of Bernie and Warren to create an agenda, but also because I expect there to be tremendous amount of disillusioned Republicans to vote for the guy if they keep it together through November - that to me is truly the silent majority this time.

Following on from the earlier leaks,

News organizations routinely prepare these so they can break the news as fast as possible once an anticipated event takes place. There was a famous case years ago where one of these was accidentally published about a President passing away while he was still alive.

He just said woman. That said, he’s under intense pressure to select someone based strictly on race, so he may well capitulate in the end.

How would that affect her ability to be President?
If you're looking at things to criticize Rice for, pushing for the no-fly zone in Libya and being close to Hillary are surely top of the list.

Most Dems not on the left don’t care about Libya, Iraq etc. It would however be a hard sell to be a Dem VP candidate when your own son is a Trumper.

I dont get why people hate hillary so much. She had done nothing no state sec never done before.

Plus what's with this "want x race and x gender this time". That sort of shit should be done behind the screen. At least pretend you're choosing your vp based on merits

They deffo cared about Iraq in 2008. I think there is very little appetite amongst the Democratic electorate for any new conflicts abroad.

When it was still ongoing. Its barely talked about among normal Dems in the present. I do agree that there’s no appetite for new foreign military action.

I do agree though that if faced with a choice between Harris, Rice and Warren, Warren is the easy choice though that would be contingent on a special election date that wouldn't put a potential Senate majority in jeopardy.

The problem with choosing Harris on the basis of race is that it’s only really to please the the casual BLM supporters. She’s not popular with black voters. Susan Rice isn’t going to satisfy the progressives.

Yep. It's an appointment for white moderates to congratulate themselves on how progressive and definitely not racist they are - after all they're voting for a black woman.

They way things are going - the Dems could pick up as many as 5 seats and lose 1, which would negate the issue of Warren not being able to be selected as VP because Mass has a GOP governor. In the end, I think Biden will capitulate to the pressure and select a non-white VP.

Donald Trump keeps pushing BONKERS idea that Joe Biden is a Trojan Horse for Bernie Sanders

Exactly. Amazing how little criticism this is getting.

Watching Pelosi being interviewed on CNN, she's renewed my fear that Trump will stroll back in.

She's a fecking car crash, landing somewhere between dementia and chronic alcoholism.

She’s an enigma. Not the machine, that was much cleverer. She can be great one day and a train wreck the next.

Seems to be quite a bit of infighting in Biden's camp regarding Harris and that may cost her the VP slot.

This alone is sufficient ground for him to not select her imo. A contingent of Dems are still unsettled about how she attacked him at the debates, another thinks she wouldn't be loyal, and of course progressives still think she's a cop. He should probably consider someone else who has more broad support among the party - especially among progressives.
