AZ down to 17k for Biden.

Actually Biden is in a better position in AZ now than he was yesterday. It's down to 17k because Trump's last highly favorable county dumped a lot of votes today. Biden also won the Maricopa dump today, which bodes well for him in the last few batches now that election day votes should be counted.

Just to clarify FYI, Election Day votes had all already been counted way back on Wednesday. What was left was a) late mail-in ballots (skewing republican) and b) polling day drop-off ballots (skewing democrat).

I think the expectation was that as a) was counted first it would close up the gap, and then once that’s done it would stay stable or extend again once they start counting b).

Of course where those votes are coming from also matters as you say re: Maricopa too.

Nice I didn’t realise Georgia was up to 10K, Nevada was up to 40K, and PA was also up to 40K. That’s pretty good and quite sizeable in each at least from a recount perspective. Legal challenges I dunno but recounts should not be overturning those.

I believe it gets JB to 295 if he claims all of these.

Which means Trump would somehow need to flip at least two states to win via legal challenges (maybe 3 depending on which he manages to flip too). And right now it’s unlikely he even flips one.

I don't think recount was meant to overturn anything. Maybe just because it's too close they'd just wanted to double check to make sure both sides are satisfy because the margin of error are withing certain threshold.

It's surely over and only a matter of time before Trump concedes ?

He'll be a lot happier on the golf course instead of the White House for the next 4 years in any case.

Ah good to know, thanks for clarifying that!

Its a travesty that Trump still has such a vice-like grip on the GOP that only Susan Collins and Mitt Romney have even acknowledged Biden's victory. These dudes are fecking cowards.

This needs to be used against each and every one of them in every election they run in going forward. They do not have faith in the system that allows Americans to have their voices heard. How can anyone vote for someone that doesn't fully believe in that vote?

Televangelists aren't Christians in my opinion. They are simply trying to make vast amounts of money for themselves, using eternal salvation as the carrot. It's the antithesis of the Christian message.

The "prosperity gospel" is an actual thing among US Christians. I'm no believer or theological expert but I believe the New Testament contains a few passages on the matter; hard to imagine the Jesus described in those books to be particularly sympathetic to the idea, to say the least.

While I can appreciate the sentiment surely that's exactly what the Vatican is doing too? (And most organised religion)

Actually, Penna is slightly wrong here I believe: the carrot isn't just eternal salvation: it's that if you have faith, keep a positive message, and most importantly, "seed" it with massive amounts of donation, you'll harvest tons of money for yourself, too. You'll prosper, materially, if you just give lots of money to your favourite preacher.

It's clever, it really is.

I'm a practising Catholic and I'd never heard of "prosperity gospel", but Wiki has informed me. When there's a reference to people receiving great riches, the Gospel writers are referring to spending eternity in the presence of God, not millions of dollars in this life!

It reminds me of the Phil Collins song, which was spot-on about these kind of crooks.

thundercnut 'voter fraud hotline' inundated by prank calls

No-one saw that one coming eh? Yet another brilliant idea pulled out of the Trump campaign's ass the last week.

So, anyone with any knowledge on where we stand with these legal challenges? Giuliani's brain is obviously a mix between soggy toast and mushy peas, so is the evidence still based on "some bloke down in Lunatic Valley saw something on the internet which looks mighty suspicious" arguments? As far as I've understood the recounts are only going to matter if we're talking margins of maybe a few hundred votes, not tens of thousands, so that seems like a dead end (?)

Well, I don't see the current Pope living a fancy lifestyle. He's still staying in the same boarding house in the Vatican that he moved into when he became Pope, because he considered the Papal apartments too luxurious. Televangelists are raising money for themselves, not for their churches/charity.

Catholics are not constantly exhorted to give money (although non-Catholics often think that we are), and priests receive a modest stipend.

To think anyone could give that stupid cnut a cent of their money. Religion can make people so fecking deluded
My best mates ex wife used to give 10% of her pre tax pay to her church as a tithe. She was on about £2500 a month before tax and she gave them £250 a month. My mate said all her family were doing it and the church were coining it in to the tune of nearly £2k a month from just her and her family alone. They’re told that it’s the “Christian thing to do” and “heaven awaits those who give willingly”

it’s a massive cult.

I doubt that he really believes that he can still win. This nonsense is all just about setting the narrative that he was robbed by the "corrupt, democrat elites and their sycophants in the mainstream media" - this is a line he'll no doubt stick to for the rest of his life.

If he drags all of these states through the courts, he is guaranteed to find some irregularities, because that will happen in every election. There won't be enough to swing the election, of course, but it will be the smattering of evidence he (and his derranged supporters) need to keep his whole bullshit argument afloat on his crappy TV network in the years to come.

The recounts are pretty pointless from a Trump perspective, they have more to do with giving the Trump campaign something to demand than changing anything. They are healthy for democracy as well.

Between 2000 and 2016 there were 27 statewide election recounts in the US the median vote swing was 219. The biggest swing in that period was the Florida recount in 2000 when Gore gained an extra 1247 votes from Bush, obviously not enough to flip the state. In fact recounts generally seem to benefit Dems. Out of those 27, 3 recounts switched the result, always to Democrats. They were Minnesota's senate race in 2008, Vermont's auditor election in 2006 and the Washington gubernatorial race in 2004.

If you back further, the New Hampshire senate race in 1974 between Durkin (D) and Wyman (R) was the longest election in US history. Wyman won the original vote by 355 votes. The recount changed the result to Durkin winning by 10 votes, after a bit of court action they recounted again and it went back to Wyman with a 2 vote majority (out of 223000 votes cast) The whole argument ended up in the senate, but they were deadlocked over what to do as well, so in the end the candidates got together and decided to have another election. Almost a year later the Dem candidate, Durkin won by 27,000 votes. Recounts favour democrats, Trump has no chance of overturning anything through recounts.

His best bet is SCOTUS, but even though it is stacked in his favour he needs some good evidence for his claims to have any hope and it seems there is none so far.

He is trying to solidify the narrative that he is the legit president in 2021 onwards. He will be a stage that will look exactly like the Oval Office, resolute desk and all. Then pretend to be signing bills but faux EOs but then commenting on the current going-ons of the Biden presidency between signing faux EOs. Like a doctor on TV taking a few minutes of his time to talk about a certain ailment. But Trump instead...

How bad Joe is doing compared to the best economy the world has ever seen until that hoax. The military is (suddenly) falling apart with him buying them new uniforms and bullets. More Mexican caravans at the border, where there are no Trump Walls.
Then Obama...

It might be the funniest thing that has ever happened, especially combined with Ghouliani asking "Who called it?" followed by the response of "...all of them." and Rudy's subsequent meltdown.

It's the sort of stuff that will make comedy writers around the world feel inadequate for years to come.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. When I visited the Vatican I certainly thought it was a rather lavish and extravagant home for a spiritual leader, and while the current pope may be different it is the result of his organisation's efforts, the organisation he dedicated his life towards.

Televangelists are raising money for themselves, not for their churches/charity.
For an agnostic like myself that's a distinction without a difference. The proceedings towards charities are different of course, but I'm not sure Televangelists don't donate towards good causes too (sometimes).

Sorry, I didn't want to derail this thread. Hope we can all agree that Trump is the nearest we got to an antichrist in a long time .
