2020 US Elections | Biden certified as President | Dems control Congress

The only mentions online are from about a year ago when people were questioning his cognitive ability.

It says he revealed he had a speech disorder that he’s been battling all his life. Surely it would be common knowledge that someone who’s been in public life for decades had such a speech disorder.

It’s clearly a ruse to try and deflect from his cognitive decline.

That took about 30 seconds.

was trump running on censoring TV?
Either way I'm a bit worried about how things are being beamed into the kid's bedrooms without anyone being able to stop it. That's some horror movie sort of stuff, can't believe Biden is doing that!

I get the first two, albeit it can't be disregarded that they hold two opposing views of his economic policy simultaneously, in a way that surely can't be explained.

Someone on the left like @Eboue would make a similar claim that Biden's not going to make a difference for the working class, and while it's a debatable point, it's not hard to see how Trump supporters could co-opt the same criticism. But that can't be true while also fearing his "socialist" economic position. And yet we know many people will make both arguments just a few seconds apart. So at least one of those criticisms is not true, and not truly believed by those who say it. It's just a rhetorical weapon rather than honest an explanation of their position.

I'd tend to agree with you. When I'm talking with them I get the feeling they're using it to cover for #3. (Some of them I think are sincere. 'Dude's a centrist. Heck he's one of us if this is still the '80s)

What does the 3rd one mean? Sounds a bit esoteric.

There are a lot of people upset by the perceived steady perfusion of non-traditional values into the the 'heartland' over the past thirty years. And not only has their way of life been under assault, but this assault also led to the rise of evangelicals and prosperity gospel ('Real' Christians HAAAAAAAATE that stuff) and dumbasses overcompensating. (and the internet made it worse)

They're used to 'turning the other cheek/not fighting back', so they're a bit conflicted when someone does it for them. They're not exactly pleased when it's someone like Trump or these Ya'll Qaeda types. But they're also not exactly not pleased, you know?

AZ is gonna be close, so don't see Nevada getting called any time soon. (Unless PA finally goes)

AZ is obviously going to be close. Doesn't look like Trump is getting enough to over take though.

Random question sort of. What is considered virtue signalling? I mean, I know the definition, but when is something virtue signalling.

For instance, wearing a T-shirt that says no to racism, is that virtue signalling? Or marching in an abortion march? How about marching in an anti abortion march? Or wearing a shirt that says I love racism?

Which part makes it signalling instead of being virtuous?

Virtue signaling has one definition to me, and it's that whatever the person is about to say following this is probably going to be something that doesn't make any sense. I've never seen the term used in an actual sensible way.

58% for Trump in that batch, it fell short of what he needed by 5%.

It’s the same pattern, lead is shrinking, but he’s falling short of what he needs. Out of Maricopa, the biggest county left is Pima - a blue one. You do the maths.

This is not a normal time to take for a US Election count, is it ?
I don't remember any other being this long, is it just down to the amount of mail in ballots due to COVID
It's kind of normal for the full count to take this long or longer. It's just usually it doesn't matter as the election is decided by this point. They're going to keep counting in California or New York but no one pays attention to that.

COVID and the extra mail ballots in states where traditionally not a lot of mail voting is done complicated the situation to a degree though, and so did the feckery of Republican legislatures.

Pinal has about the same as Pima and it's very red, and the majority of the smaller counties are even redder. Still unlikely enough for him to win but not enough for people to call as Cohn has said.

 It's a simulation!

Sorry. I don' see any that would qualify him as ignorant. Not wanting sex and murder beamed into his kids' bedrooms?

Conservatives have long been extremely Victorian about not wanting any discussion of sex, that's true. And arguable detrimental when, instead of factual, science based sex education, they push for radical abstinence-only programs in schools.
Murder, however, conservatives have never had a problem with being shown in media. They love violence that's directed against the people they don't like. Just look how quick Trump supporters are to want to fight anyone that disagrees with Trump or how aggressive they get over simply wearing a mask for health reasons

Why's that being framed as an either/or. 'Trump voters' aren't a giant homogenous block. (Kind of like how Hispanics didn't turn out to be) Some of 'em see that Biden's not for the working guy. Some of 'em believe he's a commie bastard.

I can understand not believing Biden is for the working guy. But to then conclude that Trump of all people is for the working guy shows some massive cognitive dissonance.

The guy that went bankrupt multiple times sticking taxpayers with the bill, that profited off taxpayer loans to even start his business (corporate socialism), the guy that embraced Roy Cohn, a ruthless anti-citizen policies under McCarthy, the guy that pushed for years a movement to claim America's first black President was actually born in Africa, the guy that was pals with Roger Stone, the PR guy for dictators and worse, the guy that litigated anyone that he doesn't want to pay fairly for their hard work, the guy that doesn't pay his taxes, the guy that tries to cheat everyone, the guy that thought Biden's crime bill wasn't harsh enough, the guy whose entire Presidency was based on the richest billionaires pay less in taxes than the working class, etc
To think that that guy is actually FOR the working guy?
That is truly delusional or just ignorance.

I'm starting to think you're surrounded by people who think this way and only discuss an issue on/around that level. Don' forget, you asked specifically about people I knew.

Sure, the general bulk of the median-intelligence-and-lower Trump voter might tend towards what you're describing. But again, these voters are not a giant hive-mind. This is an issue that people who've gone to Yale law could debate until the cows come home. There are plenty of smart 'trump supporters' who have their own reasons for being anti-abortion aside from the ones you've mentioned.

If we are talking anecdotally, everyone I know that is smart and voted for Trump did so for one simple reason: they want to pay less taxes and they make over $150,000 a year.

You know your arbitrary checklist doesn't cover all aspects of human behavior, right? Also I didn't make an argument. I asked whether you know 'conservatives' who still live 'the old way'. (Apologies; I'm assuming you know what I'm referring to there.) Go to church. Work hard. Need help? Just ask. Did you say something hurtful to that person? Bring my belt.

The OG conservatives I know jumped ship on Trump when they saw what he was really about. They didn't like Biden but they didn't like Trump's proto-fascism even more.

1. That's your framing and opinion. It's true for perhaps the bottom of the intelligence totem, (btw, these folks never asked to be born 'dumb')
2. Again, the rest of the majority know he's 'un-Christian'. A lot of those people are voting 'against the other guy' in spite of all that shit and how slimy it makes them feel.
Also the religion angle is s bit moot. If one goes by 'the words of Jesus himself', there are close to no true Christians in the world, let alone in the US.

Most Trump supporters have elevated their misguided views of Ayn Rand style laissez-faire market fundamentalism and/or belief in their arbitrary interpretation of the Constitution to near-religious status.

I'd argue it's virtually impossible now. There's a whole generation of kids now born into a snipe culture. But that's also why the older generation/leaders have to start now. That stuff plays into the the hands of the power-brokers.

There is a reason the far-right has long been attacking universities and education. They don't want the next generation to think for themselves. They want them to buy their pre-configured belief system.

It's tough but it's important for us on the other side to remember these are deeply wounded people. Half the reason the neo-cons/Trump can get their hooks into them so easily is because they've been 'losing' for the past thirty-forty years and now the other side is so derisive of them. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure that's going to see even the most conservative of them - conservative as in the real definition - not exactly minding the hardliners taking a stand.

What are you on about? The far-right have not been "losing" for the last 40 years. They have pushed right-wing economics for the last 40 years (deregulation that led to the 2008 financial crisis), the crime bill that Biden sponsored was gleefully supported by the right-wing (they just didn't like the assault weapon ban), they've massively shifted the courts to the right, shifted the Overton Window to the right.

By just about every measure, the right-wing has pushed more of their policies in the last 40 years (to detriment of ordinary people). They are just whining because they aren't getting their way on EVERYTHING (like abortion and LGBT rights)

I hope one day you come across a pickup truck driven by a man with a huge beard and a sleeveless flannel shirt who can barely hold a normal conversation... and who turns out to hate him.

I came across a few of these in the last month, and they were all rabid Trump supporters that literally wanted to fight anyone who said anything bad about the guy they believe should be on Mt. Rushmore.

Cheers, finding it all fascinating, don't think I have ever watched the news so much

Yeah, we will have to wait until PA is called.

Virtue signaling is what right wingers term any good deed or altruism. They lack the empathy to comprehend how any individual can be decent towards anyone else unless a benefit is involved. Its projection.

I don't remember any other being this long, is it just down to the amount of mail in ballots due to COVID
Certain states allowed counting mail in votes before election day (Florida and certain others expected to go to the Republicans), while others only allowed counting on the day itself. Fair bit of work goes into making sure each one is valid, goes through the machine properly etc and as there are loads more of them due to Covid, it takes longer. In previous elections, more mail in ballots were allowed to be counted before election day but Trump and Republican legislatures going all in on mail fraud narrative meant they pushed counting to begin on election day only so they could whine about the 'fraud' when on-day votes that went for Trump suddenly swing to Biden due to the vast majority of Democrats voting in advance.

Bet it ends up being a batch of a few thousand, this will never end.

We’ll see. He needs to hit 57.8% of all remaining ballots just to win by a mere 10 votes or so. I’m fairly sceptical.

There is an Adult Entertainment Store called "Fantasy Island Book Store" that is about two units away from Four Seasons Total Landscaping
