FAO Americans: what is your expectations of the aftermath of Biden presumably being announced as the next President? Is there a real worry about widespread trouble and violence from the Trump supporters, considering the language he is using around the election results? Is it overblown to think that there could be some very serious occurrences in the coming weeks and months, especially if Trump presumably keeps stoking the fires?

Wait what?

You notice how slow these states are to count only due to the fact that they are important to the final result + the red mirage/blue shift phenomenon. These states are counting at the same rate they always count at. PA is arguably an exception as it only started their mail in program this cycle I believe.

Trump to speak from the Whitehouse later tonight. I expect him throw more fuel on the fire of civil unrest, with dog whistles to the Proud Boys and the like.

Biden is a normaliser, and the Republicans will probably go for someone less mad than Trump next time.

They'll have to claw the party out of Trump's pudgy fingers first. Not seeing any signs of anyone popular enough to do that considering how successfully Trump buiilt up his cult of personality.

Surely they can’t call it until Biden is ahead in the count
I don't know what their criteria is, but it doesn't strictly require being ahead. Trump was ahead of Biden when counting started in Virginia and they didn't take long to call it. Trump even stayed ahead for several hours after that.

Damn dude. Today I learned: you’re over here.
Yeah moved to BC from Ontario a couple of months ago. Much prefer the winters here already. They had snow in ON not long ago.
It's baffling how the cult of Trump has reached Europe. I've got one of these nutters at work as well. They completely buy into it. I've learned to stay away from political conversations with that one, it's tear your hair out stuff.
There's a strong far right following all over Europe. Trump's simply opened the lid on it in America.

Okay, thanks, didn’t know that.

I anticipate a lot of talk but a lot less action. Most of these gun-toting cosplayers are all hat and no cattle.

Well of course, but that doesn’t change my point.

What odds Trump just quitting. He's lost billions in property deals

Don't fcuking tag me Rugusauce

What is actually causing the slowness in Arizona and Nevada? Like, I don’t get it. Does anyone have real insight?
they all take long. New york is still counting, Cali probably wont stop counting till next week. problem is , is that exit polls are trash these days and its so close networks just cant call it with any confidence till all the votes are counted. This is normal just that its so damn close and the extra mail in ballots are taking time to count. In nevada they are still waiting on more ballots to come in.

Interesting how heavy the mix of these remaining mail-in is. Looking at the map now, that's a Trump country, leading by 10 pts even with these votes. Someone should just call this already.
Don't think they'll do it before it shows a Biden lead.

Unfortunately as we know it doesn't need to be many to commit atrocities, especially when guns are involved.,

Agreed. And it would help if they did this before Trump speaks tonight ... so that his talk can be ditched in favour of network coverage of Biden publicly declaring victory.

Edit: it would be great if, when Trump walks into the White House press room, there are no reporters there because they are all covering Biden's victory speech.

They usually employ a staff of election / pollster types who closely track numbers in the individual states and based on their internal data, make assessments and recommendations about whether or not their outlet should commit to "calling" a state. The variances between networks is because they use different methodologies to interpret the numbers.

Fox also famously called Ohio for Obama in 2012, which caused a meltdown among one of the pundits (Karl Rove) and compelled Megyn Kelly to actually take the cameras back to the room where the decision was made to give the audience some insight.

We don't have a national government system who make a big announcement about who won the election, so the TV networks are generally the only way for most people who watch these things on TV to know who won. This has over time created a sort of arms race among the various networks to get the information out as soon as possible, so as to not look like they are lagging behind competing networks.

Fascinating. Thanks.

I get all that, I’m fully aware.

However it’s not the point. Arizona has been stuck between 82 and 86% since the morning after election night. Nevada has barely moved in the same period. And Georgia has been counting its last 10% over the last day.

I know they all take time. But the rate slowed way more than just being mail votes which take longer.

Fox should call the election just before Trump does his press conference then have Jim Acosta tell him live

Hopefully thats all there is. Can't help but shake the feeling that this will end in tragedy as a lot of cults do (it is a cult in my opinion) but probably me just being an outsider overblowing the situation.
