I would take anything Jolly says with a huge pinch of salt as he's probably closer to being a centrist Dem than a Republican these days.
He's going to need a clear lead if he's got any hope of winning. Voting intention and voter suppression / vote flipping are two very different things.
He didn't have a choice really.
I don't know how reliable that poll is. But I would be delighted that less than 50% wanted to vote him now than the previous polls. It was at 51% and it was absurd.
Beto will have some out of undecided % and it will give him a decent chance.
Good polls already take into account those sorts of things.
Just based on the polling variances I've seen, I'd have to guess that Cruz is up by about 5-6 points at this stage. If Beto winds up finishing less than 3 percent (or better) behind Cruz then that will be viewed as a sign that Texas may be in play in 2020.

He changed party affiliation from R to Indy a few weeks back. Besides Trump, it was his young daughter’s health scare & potentially her not receiving pre-existing care for her that helped sway his decision.
If things go pear shaped at least we'll know why.
