The LA Times poll really is just a mess

 Fair play for that mate.
I have personally got her a few votes, even though they likely won't matter, have some old relatives living in Houston who have lived in the US for decades and never voted.

I have a cousin in Houston. He says as Texas goes it's a fairly liberal city? But he works in theatre so could be just him

Really hoping an increased turnout gets the margin under 10% in TX, important for future elections there that it begins to be seen as reasonably competitive.

If the Dems can make FL safe and TX competitive, GOP may as well give up.

Looks quite likely the margin will be less than 10% this time. With the huge Latino population, the Dems should have a realistic chance in the not too distant future

No its not, although we did elect a lesbian mayor for Houston, the rest of the suburbs outside of Harris county are fairly very conservative. Just last year a petition to extend the metro line got down voted because it would "bring the criminal element" into the nicer areas. Austin is the closest you can find to a liberal city in Texas.

I wouldn't trust pollsters when it comes to Trump. They got it wrong during the Primaries too. His supporters are a demographic that have defied representative sampling before.
This is not really true, in any sense. FiveThirtyEight predicted 29 out of 32 Republican primaries* correctly using their poll based method. Actually their only three misses (Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas) were all predicting Trump to win in states he lost, so if anything maybe his supporters are over-represented in sampling. http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/election-2016/primary-forecast/iowa-democratic/

The mistake these polling aggregators made was to dismiss him early in the build up to the nomination process on the assumption that his poor favourables would leave him exposed as the field narrowed, which it didn't, and the actual serious buisness approached. When it came to the actual primaries their models accurately reflected what was going on even with a lot less data than is available for the actual election.

*Not enough data to make predictions in Alaska, Minnesota, Vermont, Kentucky, Maine, Peurto Rico, Hawaii, Idaho, Mississipi, US Virgin Islands, DC, Guam, Wyoming, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, North Dakota, Delaware, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington, Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota. No Direct vote in Colorado and Wyoming

Sorry, I realise that now after rereading through. My apologies @Cheesy I was just so fecking wound up by that story of the lad in a wheelchair with Cerebral Palsy I kind of went on a bit of a rantathon on here and Twitter. Sorry, but it really upset me. Thankfully the video of Obama made things better but just brought home what we are losing with him leaving the White House :(

No problem man, I appreciate it's easy to become confused in the myriad of posts/info in the thread, and yeah, that video is disgusting. His supporters tactics largely reflect Trump's character.

I swear theres such a strong nazi vibe that is coming out of Trump rallies.

Very much so. His further jailing comments regarding Clinton reflect that tonight - she's been cleared by the FBI again but the mere possibility that may be the correct call isn't even entertained by Trump. Instead he'll want further investigations (under his watch) with the intention of maybe even jailing her in the end. That's quite close to being straight fascist tactics, I'd imagine. Demonise those who are against you, and ignore any semblance of truth in the process. Fortunately he's too shit at the whole fascist thing to ever succeed. I think...

The worst part is that when they're asked to why, they say she's crooked. They don't want to lock her up for a crime she committed, they want her locked up because of her character.

In truth the democrats have been just as responsible for the prison economy and "lock them away" culture in the US as the republicans, so they can't really complain much. If things don't change I expect this to become a regular feature of future elections. America is due a left wing demagogue some time soon anyway :wenger:. Donald isn't really a right wing demagogue in truth anyway, he's just a demagogue without convictions.

Agreed, but how many investigations were there in to Benghazi? Was it 6? Trump is just continuing the way the Republicans have been behaving for years. They have been obstructing and blocking in the house and senate as much and often as possible and they have investigated and made huge deals out of anything they don't agree with. They have made personal witch hunts and spent thousands of hours and millions of dollars on vengeance of unprovable or completely ridiculous cases, many born out of boredom or jealously. Trump has just taken all this and ran with it and his celebrity status has carried him far and has just taken not only him, but also the conspiratorial theme of all the Republicans charges to new heights.

The fall from grace is going to be yuuge! no, spectacular, the only question is where does he, and the Republican party go from here? Do they delve further in to the conspiracy theories and stay out there? Or do they regroup and come back down to earth and start again from the centre right? If they don't then surely a new party will emerge and the Republicans will just stay on Mars with their new best friends Roger Stone and Alex Jones.

Wow a lot of these people are clueless

I'm just sick and tired of these videos now. It's far too easy to just let these people talk their bullshit and be arseholes. It's high time they were asked questions. How has Obama ruined the USA for the last 8 years? How is the country worse? How is your life worse? Are you not just making shit up? Is it because he's black?

I also think they should all be filmed when the election results come in.

Bloody hell.

Dublin isn't much better though. My sister's boyfriend lives in a council estate which is on the road into a very upper middle class neighbourhood, including a pretty successful Gaelic football team here. Originally the sidewalk was only on the same side as the houses-in a few spots the working class neighbourhood wasn't even on the sidewalk, there are plots of grass separating the houses from the street.

Anyway, people complained and a second sidewalk was built on the other side of the road, even though there's nothing over there, so people going in to the clubhouse/the middle class neighbourhood wouldn't have to walk on the same side of the road as the working class houses.

People are fecked.

Also, just popped into my head, was Stone Cold Steve Austin 'Austin' by birth or is he from Austin...

Silver clearly losing it these last few days.

I worry that he's struggling with the position of responsibility and power that he now finds himself in, whilst simultaneously being in a (presumably) high-demand, profit-seeking 'news' organisation. There's a lot of stresses and conflicts of interest built up there.

Watching videos like these genuinely baffles me about the US. At first I thought they were small pockets of bible bashing hicks, but considering the sizeable support Trump has it seems they number in the many millions. What is that's allowed these sort of ideals to persist? Is it religion? Because half the nonsense coming out their mouths is beyond anti-Christian. Or is it deep-rooted cultural racism that's failed to extinguish over time? Which again seems bizarre considering the US was founded as nation of immigrants with constitutional rights that theoretically ought to empower and protect men of all creeds. Or is it a lack of education?

Not scientific at all, but when I tell people here that the UK is barely religious most of them think I'm mad.

In woefully simplistic terms: the pilgrims were fecked off from the old world for being religious whack jobs. They went to America and have stuck around there.

Joking aside, lack of education is a factor for many but isn't enough. Being given a very narrow, particular interpretation of their religion as well. The cultural racism as you said, the idea of American exceptionalism, frustration at what they see as cultural and economic stagnation. I think all these are factors.

Anderson Cooper finally grilling that manequin running trumps campaign. Finally.
