2016/2017 Title race

We will be lucky to get top four given the level of performances.

What title race

We almost had a season where we didn't start it by being utter shite but yet again we decide that a top 4 battle is more our level.

I bet a Liverpool supporting colleague £100 that we'd finish above them this season. On my way to the cash machine later so I can pay up tomorrow.

6 points behind City in September, depressing

Next year is our year

Long way to go, we're not performing.Mourihno needs to get his team selection right. The players are there, it's too early yet. We can't afford to get beat by dirt like Watford if we won't to make a genuine challenge. The spine is there, we need the Rooney and midfield situation resolved soon. New players like Pogba and Mkhitarayan need to settle into the side. It's all about addressing key areas quickly and getting stability. It's too early to really predict anything. City will be there, that's all we really know. Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, United it's all very uncertain on places finishing.

Cant see anyone beyond city..Time to start a congratulatory thread!!!

Watching a title race between City and Liverpool, why we play for the Europa League spots against Everton and Spurs. Sigh

Dont see us stopping City. We are 3-4th place at best if we improve massively.

I cant see the perpetual also rans like Arsenal,Spurs,Liverpool having any chance.

That leaves Chelsea. I'd give them a 10% chance at best.

Pep's consistency in the league at Bayern makes me think there will be a clearcut winner. 2nd to 4th should be more intriguing.

I think City look like the strongest side in the league by far and I'm almost certain they'll win it, but it's way, way too soon to declare them as winners or write off any other potential contender yet.

City have been fantastic so far but they'll almost certainly hit a bad patch or two throughout the season and I still think there'll be a fairly close title race. City will have problems of their own: Bravo and Stones could be potential weak links in defence, and key players like De Bruyne and Aguero remain susceptible to fitness worries.

Worth remembering that City looked brilliant last season and many assumed they'd run away with it. I think they're much better now and have a better manager, but they'll have spells of poor form at some point...in the same way we're in one now, and will likely improve again.

I think we'll get top 4 but will be behind Arsenal and Chelsea. I think we'll have enough to finish above Spurs and the Scousers but it'll be a fight for 4th place.

Depressing stuff.

I can understand City fans thinking theyve already won it, but it is not even close to being over ffs lol.

City WILL lose games, and it is still between them Chelsea and Utd

I think we'll be out of it after the Chelsea game. We've got three top sides in the next four PL games.

Top 4 is the aim. I think we should try and treat the EL with more respect.

Next five league games for the top 7:

Not a good set of fixtures after messing up our 'easy' start.

We're typically now 12-1 5th favourites for the title with the bookies.

I guess the Chelsea and Liverpool away combo will indicate which way this season will go for us. Goes without saying that we need 9/9 at the other three home games if we want to stay anywhere near the race.

According to the bookies it's a one horse race, City odds on favourites with Liverpool second at 6/1.

Arsenal look sharper than us and even Chelsea at times IMO.

Even if we do get maximum home points we could be 12 points behind city after 10 games. I can't see anyone beating city at the moment, even Liverpool with their best attack in the world.

I don't get this, That second bit, where do Arsenal fit in? For all their faults surely they're a far better side than this United and Chelsea. I mean I can understand ignoring Liverpool (though they look a better side than United and Chelsea) because they're still an "unknown" so to speak but what is united and Chelsea finishing above Arsenal based on?
I'm genuinely curious.

Any team that boasts the most expensive player ever, one of the top 5 strikers in the world, and the consensus greatest mgr in the last ten years Has to be considered title favs.
If not then you would seriously have to look at the possibility that the boss might not be special anymore.
Top 4 would have to be minimum

Why is it between city, Chelsea and United? Tottenham and arsenal finished ahead of all three teams last season. Leicester won the title, Liverpool have no Europe and have beaten arsenal and Chelsea already. Why are Chelsea and United that much more likely to win the title then they are?

I keep my top 3 of 4.

City, Spurs and Arsenal...

Arsenal have a nice run of fixtures coming up, can see them winning all 5 of them.

I thought that, but Arsenal being Arsenal, they won't.

I also thought United's fixtures look interesting. If you can beat Leicester at home, then the Stoke game should be a gimme. And then away to Liverpool and Chelsea and who knows how many points form those two games. It's really vital you beat Leicster and Stoke and get some momentum going.
