In Germany they denied it and any classy club would! The 69 can't be removed from it's innuendo. I would take away the professionalism of the footballer and the club.

Lizerazu wore #69. I also remember seeing someone from rather average team, can't remember who it was, like some Portugese or French league .... in other sports it's pretty normal actually. My 'thing' with #69 is that I view it as a sort of abbreviation of 666999 :) and it's one of those 'weird' but good numbers that I like on a football shirt it looks right. Many double digit higher numbers just don't fit it, but I like seeing players with 66, 69, 88.... although I think it should be only top quality players or hot prospects and only a couple of those numbers given ....

That why I like Januzaj as 44, El Shaarawy 92, Balotelli 45, Yaya 42 etc. I like when players make numbers their own.

I think it's more or less a certainty that we're going to sign a backup LB. If it's Blind then he should be given the 3.

He was number 23 in the past. I don't see why every player needs a "traditional" number. Shaw 15 looks better than Shaw 3 to me. But it's probably up to him. I expect him to be number 3 even if I disagree with it. I don't think it suits him.
 
Who cares though? Shaw is, barring something mental, going to be our first choice left back next season. Why not give him a first choice players number?

Number 3 should be whoever is our first choice left back. Number 7 should be our first choice right winger, in my book.

I hope we give Herrera or a new signing the number 18 shirt. I know it shouldn't, but I can't stress enough how much it bothers me that Ashley Young is wearing Scholes number.

Since our first choice right winger gave-up the number 7 shirt, we'd need to look towards a back-up. Young and Nani are next after him, but neither seem likely to move numbers even if they stay (Young would probably be the more likely to change numbers since Nani has been around a couple of times when the 7 has become available but not grabbed it). Januzaj maybe if he doesn't get the 11?

Truth is I don't see a player in the squad worthy of the stature we the supporters give to the number 7. Maybe LVG won't care too much about the reputation of shirt numbers, but we shall see.
 
I think Shaw had 28. The club has said these numbers are just for the tour and could change. Would expect Herrera (Ander Herrera on the shirt...) to keep 21 but Shaw's numbers would've been printed whilst Evra still had 3.

Vidal #8 seems perfect but I wouldn't change numbers of players that are already at the club, except your Adnan who still has a reserves players number
