2014/2015 Shirt numbers

Even more numbers might bee free, when players leave. We are going to sell at least 3-4 players, to make room for new players and to cut the big squad we have.
3 - Luke Shaw.
5 - Mats Hummels.
7 - Adnan Januzaj.
9 - Danny Welbeck.
11 - Marco Reus.
17 - Arturo Vidal.
18 - Tom Lawrence.
19 - James Wilson.
22 - Daley Blind.

Januzaj isn't good enough for the 7 IMO. Give him the 20 and RVP the 9. Or just let him keep the 44 and make it his own. I don't want Januzaj to be compared to Ronaldo every other game. Cause that's what will happen.

The 7 needs to go to a big signing. Preferably one that isn't a winger, like Vidal. But I wouldn't be against Zaha getting the 7. If he was used more often. I think he fits the "pacey tricky winger" to a tee.

I'm not sure Zaha will make it to be honest. Agree with making Vidal number 7.

Eh?

I rate Zaha above Januzaj as a winger. Januzaj may be the better #10 but from a pure winger standpoint, I feel Zaha fits the 7 better. If I was gonna give it to a young up and comer, I'd give it to him. I see a lot of a young Cristiano Ronaldo in him (Even Solskjaer said so).

People are already comparing Januzaj to Ronaldo but I haven't heard many compare Zaha to Ronaldo. If Zaha was to get the #7, I'm under the impression that the comparisons wouldn't be as drastic as they would if Adnan got it.

Moving on, I don't actually think either should get it. There's no one in our current squad that fits the 7 as of yet. If Vidal gets signed then yeah.

Vidal for #7 wouldn't fit for me. #7 just isn't a central midfielder's number, would look wrong.

Not that it matters, all indications are we aren't getting him lol

Since when does the number 7 have to be worn by a winger? Cantona, Robson and Owen all wore it and none of them were wingers. Also you say Vidal would be suited to it even though he is most definitely not a winger. Despite the fact Zaha is a wide player by trade and Januzaj is more of a number 10 as you say, I'm sure most people on here would agree with me when I say Januzaj is the better winger even though it isn't his best position.

Giving Januzaj the number 7 would make a lot of sense IMO. He is a fantastic prospect and if given the number 7 it may inspire him as I'm sure it did with Ronaldo when he was given it at a young age. Januzaj has said that he wants to emulate Ronaldo so I'm sure it would mean a lot to him to be given the number 7 shirt. Unlike Valencia I also feel he would be able handle the expectation of wearing such an iconic jersey at United.

Madness. Januzaj perhaps isn't a proper winger, but he's twice the player Zaha is in that position. You'd rather have Zaha in the team than Adnan?

#3 - Luke Shaw
#5 - Mats Hummels, or new CB whoever that be.
#7 - Arturo Vidal or Angel Di Maria
#9 - James Wilson / RvP
#11 - Adnan Januzaj
#15 - Ander Herrera

I don't really think Wilson will get #9, but I hope he will ... Also I would love to see someone great taking the #69. No sexual innuendos, I just love that number, I think it's perfect for a goalscorer forward or a play-a-maker.

Also I think Januzaj personal preference would be #11, I kinda think he chose #44 because it's 'similar' to 11...

I'd like to have them both on. But I think Zaha is more exciting and suited for the winger role, yes.

Robson and Cantona were "the man" at United. Vidal could be our new Robson.

Wow.

Zaha > Januzaj

:wenger:
In fairness, we haven't seen much of Zaha in a United shirt due to politics and whatnot. I'm basing my opinion on his Crystal Palace form. I think he's destined for greatness here but he needs the games. If Zaha got januzaj's games, let's just say I think a lot of Zaha jerseys would get printed.

When will the numbers be announced? When we signed Mata I was going to buy his shirt (didn't do though so far). But now I have changed my mind and will buy Herrera's even if we sign Vidal. While Mata and Vidal are recognised top class players by everyone, I am convinced that Herrera will be the one who will surprise a lot of ppl and improve us big time.

Fair play for sticking your neck out, but I've not seen him do anything special in the Premier league. His Palace form was in the Championship, his form at Cardiff last season was absolutely shocking.

Hope he comes good, but can't see him being a first teamer ahead of Januzaj.

Last year the official shirt numbers were revealed on August 16th.

Robson and Cantona were "the man" at United. Vidal could be our new Robson.

Januzaj could be our new Ronaldo. It just seems that you are contradicting yourself somewhat by saying that the number 7 wouldn't feel right if worn by Januzaj as he is not enough of a winger yet you are fine with Vidal getting the number 7 shirt even though he is a CM.

It wasn't due to politics. His form on loan at Cardiff (where he couldn't earn a regular starting place in a team that was ultimately relegated) showed that he simple wasn't good enough last season to warrant a run of games in the team like Januzaj had. Januzaj was given a chance and took it. Zaha was given chances and didn't do likewise. If Zaha had impressed as much as Januzaj he would have played just as much as the former.

While he looked decent at Palace I'm not sure how you can say he is "destined for greatness" based on the form he showed for them. He only scored 12 goals for them in over 100 appearances so it's fair to say he didn't exactly set the world alight. I think he has potential but I don't believe he is as much of a sure thing as you suggest.

Zaha doesn't even have half of Januzaj's intelligence in his play. Our Januzaj knows what he's going to do with the ball before he even receives it. If van Gaal gives him a real shot in the first team Januzaj could be one of our key players this season.

It's because the Januzaj/Ronaldo comparisons will be running wild if he gets it. I feel a tricky winger or a big signing should be the next to get it. I'm not saying Adnan is not good enough for it, I just don't see him as a #7. And the comparisons will only hurt him.

Not many people are willing to give Zaha a chance here, therefore I think giving him the 7 would motivate him. (It's not gonna happen anyway)

20 is perfect for Januzaj. Give RVP the 9. They used those numbers in the World Cup and I think it's time for a change with RVP anyway.

I think that comparison will be made regardless. Januzaj is arguably the most exciting talent to be at the club since Ronaldo and there are some similarities between the two of them in terms of how they play although Januzaj isn't an out and out winger like Ronaldo is. They also happen to share the same birthday.

I don't see how the comparison will hurt him in any way. He has said that Ronaldo is someone that he looks up to. It is bound to be a nice compliment and confidence boost for him to be compared to an idol of his. Getting Ronaldo's old number could inspire him and I can't see what harm it would do.

Januzaj should get 11, would be nice if another semi youth product gets it and has it for a decade or two.

Ronaldo isn't really one of his footballing idols. He just mentioned him because of how he turned from a skinny kid to a beefed up man, and also mentioned him and Becks due to being at United. His idols are Zidane, Riquelme, and Kaka.

I agree with you and the others. I don't think the #7 shirt will be too much for hiim and he certainly deserves it more than Zaha. Either the 7 or 11 shirt will look good on him. He played in the youth ranks and is seen by fans as United's young poster boy.

I wouldn't say that. Ronaldo was way more exciting on the ball. He was unique and unlike anything we ever seen in the Premier League before; the speed, the tricks, even the way he kicked the ball was unique.

Januzaj can be great but I've seen a ton of Januzaj's before. He might turn out to be a great player for us but I doubt he'll become the superstar sensation everyone seems to expect him to become. He has a good pass on him and seems to be comfortable on the ball but that's about it for now. I'm hoping he can become more ambitious with his efforts and score a few more goals next season.

as for him being United's most exciting player since Ronaldo.... I'd say RVP, Mata and even De Gea are above him. I genuinely get excited when RVP gets in the box.

Zaha is shit, like below Ashley Young level shit how anyone can prefer him over Adnan is unbelievable.

Give Januzaj either 7 or 11 for me he's going to be world class.

I like how you've described a muppet's paradise featuring the likes of Vidal, Hummels and Reus... but also thrown Blind on the end. Like a lottery winner being asked what he'll spend the money on and listing a couple of flash cars, a swank holiday home in the Caribbean, a yacht... and some new socks 'cause a few of his are starting to get holes in them.

Sure he was an exception, so was Cantona, but I mean in general. I'd much prefer a central midfielder to take 6 or 8, but seeing as those aren't available, I guess a marquee signing like Vidal would grab #7 just by default.

My personal shirt preference

1 - DDG
30 - Backup Keeper

2 - Rafael
3 - Shaw
4 - Jones
5 - Smailing
6 - Evans
7 - Undecided, I don't think Januzaj is ready for 7
8 - Herrera
9 - RvP
10 - Rooney
11 - Undecided
12 - Backup RB
13 - Backup LB
14 - Januzaj
15 - Nani? (In my mind 15 is for DM / CM type of player)
16 - Carrick
17 - Kagawa
18 - Mata
19 - Welbeck
20 - Hernandez
21 - Herrera?

In Germany they denied it and any classy club would! The 69 can't be removed from it's innuendo. I would take away the professionalism of the footballer and the club.

I think we should introduce crazy squad numbers, like Holland in the 70s. De Gea should be No 7. Phil Jones No 1, of course.
