2010's Best Albums

I'm going to spend my evening listening to all the shit in this thread I've never heard of.

feck me, I tried but I've decided to stay ignorant. Since when have death metal and kanye west got the duopoly on music?

Don't worry paul, all it means is that it's been a poor year for music. The best album of the year is the Arcade Fire one, and that's not even that amazing. Well it is, but it doesn't rescue the year as a whole. The Black Keys album is a good one too, but it's really par for the course for them and mad that it's possibly the second best album of the year. The Walkmen's album was good too, though I can't recall the name of it, likewise the Sufjan Stevens one. Laura Marling and Caitlin Rose both had really good alt country style albums but good in their own field rather than anything definitive. (Like most albums listed here I'd venture) The only act all year that raised my eyebrow was Janelle Monae, one or two of her tunes answered the question as to what would have happened if black american artists listened to Stax and Motown. Not my cuppa rosy exactly, but when it's good it's good, the production is fantastic (for anyone interested YouTube - Janelle Monáe - Tightrope [feat. Big Boi] (Video) I like a lady who can dance). I probably forgot a couple of sublime albums and made a tit of myslef.

Every year right?

When did Mumford & Son's release Sigh no more? If it was this year then they're the clear winner.

Black keys for me, didn't mind the Mark Ronson and business international album either, I'm certain there's a few others but I'm damned if I can remember them.

Sign No More was released October '09.

The Suburbs wins this without a doubt.

Not you no, just someone each year there is a thread like this.

Ah the thread is fairly neutral, it's really just me saying it was a poor year. Which I think it was, but I'm not down on modern sounds, it's just that in 2010 nowt too outstanding happened.

1. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
2. Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me
3. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
4. Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot
5. Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
6. The National - High Violet
7. Vampire Weekend - Contra
8. Robyn - Body Talk
9. The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt
10. The Roots - How I Got Over

I'd say it's been a good year for music, considering I've had to leave out albums by the likes of The Black Keys, Sufjan Stevens, Beach House and Janelle Monaé.

feck me, so long ago I forgot ... I think this is 2010 ... Beck rerecorded the Skip Spence album 'Oar' ... return to form for Beck

michael jackson - 'michael' :( Sorry it had to be listed by someone

Swans – My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky

Album of the year. Only got it a couple of weeks ago but it pretty much kills everything else on my list.

And it's not Metal.

Arguably one of my favorite albums ever. I love every single song on the album. Literally.
I listened to Waking Up all through finals week last spring and all through the summer and all through this current school year. It never gets old.

Eminem's Recovery is excellent and The Script's Science and Faith is notable, although their older album was better. Teenage Dream by Katy Perry has a few great songs. Mike Posner's 31 Minutes to Takeoff has to be mentioned if even only by the basis that he is a Duke alum.

EDIT: Just realized that Waking Up was released in November 2009 but my point stands nonetheless.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, my head hurts.

Mike Posner's sucked dick, he works best with Big Sean and like an idiot he didn't have him on the album at all!

Yeah Posner's not actually that great and he's a twat in real life, but he went to my alma mater so he's automatically included.

Shoeshine Boogie was one of my favorite songs of last year. Never managed to listen to the album. Guess I have to change that.

Really like the album, nothing mind blowing but then there weren't any mind blowing albums last year.

Kanye West and Teenage Fanclub had some fantastic releases. On a United related note: The Hurts and the Courteeners had some good albums too.
