2009 Baseball Season

He struck him out, the Yankees win the penant!!!!!!!!!!

So glad this was finished today. A few days to prepare and hopefully to make home advantage count. Yankees need to win the first two imo.

Yankees in 6 or 7 I'm thinking.

MVP to be either ARod, Teixeira (think he might explode this series) or one from Sabathia/Pettitte/Rivera.

I figure Sabathia is going to be difficult to beat and Pettitte is pitching good as well. Burnett might be the deciding factor for NYY. If he can pitch good/great, the Phillies are in serious trouble. I figure this will be a slugfest though. Expect to see a few 8-6 games.

All US times listed are normally east coast time zone. So add fours hours for England, assuming that's where you are at the moment. Come Sunday, the US will step an hour back so that's five hours behind England.

MLB site says 7.57PM coverage starts tomorrow, but I couldn't see an area code. What time does the game start UK time?

It's all East times now its 4 hours difference tomorrow it will be 11.57pm for all these games but after Saturdays game the US clocks go back I might be wrong but if they do its back to 5 hours.

This world series is not enjoyable. Yankees or the Phillies......what sort of choice is that for god's sake. Its like choosing between Gonorrhea and Syphilis.

And the world series was better last year, Syphillis or Crack

I watched a bit of this last night before I nodded off.

Anyway, the question I have is why do all the players spit all the time? I know footballers do, but they don't do it half as much as these guys. Right from the off, the batter comes in and spits. Didn't hit it, so he spits again, and then once more for good measure.

Anyone able to shed any light on this Baseball craze?

Correct me if I'm wrong of course.

A lot of baseball players chewed tobacco back before it was recognized as really harmful. The spitting came as a result of that. Once tobacco was recognized as a harmful substance, they started chewing sunflower seeds instead and spit out the shells. Some of them just spit because their mouth is dry and they're surrounded by grass so it's not like they're vandalizing anything.

Combination of things... sunflower seeds, bubblegum (gobs of it), chewing tobacco, lots of water/sport drinks, some players eat Twizzlers or other types of candy during a game.

Burnett is the X-factor in this series. If he pitches great, the Yanks are in great position to win. If he's shit, which he often is IMO, they're in serious trouble.

He's dipped in form since joining the Yankees.

If im honest, the way its going at the moment the Phillies look up for this. I don't want to use the C word with the Yankees, but if they lose this one it'll be an uphill battle.

Yankee's stadium now sounds like a stadium & not the Emirates!

Good HR from Teixeira

Yankees are one hit from busting this game wide open. Park pulled after some shaky relief pitching. He's crap anyhow. Conned Hicks into a mega-contract after doing basically nothing with the Dodgers for a few years. It was his contract not ARod's that set Texas back a few years. At least they got great production from ARod - they got about a 5 ERA from Park... and some abysmal pitching.

What a bullshit call by the first base umpire. I guess the home plate umpire and the second base umpire weren't paying attention.

At normal speed its impossible to see the dirt kick up, only in the super slow-mo is it visible.

The umpire made the right call yesterday on a similar play by Rollins, granted he was in a much better position to see the play. Yet again why instant replay in the post-season is necessary. That was a key play - bases loaded with 1 out vs end of the inning on a double play. Yankees could have blown the game open.
