£100m is a sensible budget considering no CL, our current stature in the Premier league and and loss of commercial revenue. Plus the glazers record of spending. Not sure what's so hard to believe about it.
Dybala is serious a commericial opportunity, could be the difference in keeping Pogba next year and we don't know if someone would have been forced out come January to balance.
What else explains our reluctance to sign a midfielder? When Teilimans, Ndombele and Bruno were available? Do you think Ole, Carrick and McKenna are niave enough to think our midfield is top quality?
It's obvious constraints were in place. Our transfer dealings have been focused.

We had a chance to sign Tielemans for 40m and passed it up, we seemingly had a chance to sign Dybala but passed it up due to the cost, and now seemingly we are passing on Eriksen due to the fee (depending on who you believe) motivations of the players have been briefed by United.
Seems like much of our business is dependant on shifting on Lukaku and/or others.

As things currently stand with less than 24 hours of this window remaining, we have spent less than £150m, but with Lukaku being sold for £70m our net spend comes down to £80m.
There's also a good chance that Rojo, Darmian & Smalling could be sold too, bringing that net spend down even further..

Again worth pointing out that this isn't how transfer spend is budgeted or calculated, net spend is a useless measure, the original article remains stupid, as does any "X have a Ymillion warchest this summer" article you read.

If we’re not making any purchases and the net spend is relatively low for a club our size, then I might start to suspect that they’re looking to sell the club. Two summers running where frugality and haggling has been a theme.
Not surprised, did try explain from looking at the accounts we're not as loaded as people think (dreaming of £200m net transfer spends).
Unless we sign a midfielder or two and a CF Ole's in trouble.

Ed will be getting a pretty big bonus if Zaha, Rojo, Darmian and Lukaku all get sold and our net spend is around £40 mil. He fully deserves the bonus as well.
It's worse if you include the whole of 2019 which includes the 10.5mil for Fellaini net spent for the year is at £57.5mil

This is really depressing, our top four rivals (lol really sad that’s our level now), are improving, and teams below us improved as well, while we “one of the biggest clubs in the world”, our net spend is 40m potentially..
Even last season, I was very optimistic for the season to start, unfortunately after the bad run at the end of last season, and not adequately improving our squad this season is actually making me dread the new season.
I acknowledge that we strengthened our defense considerably, but we also weakened our attack/midfield (on top of both positions needed strengthening and not replacing Herrera/Afro man, and no upgrade on Matic), on top of that, Ole’s managerial quality is still unknown to me. If we had Pochettino, I would’ve been much more optimistic, and that’s not a dig on Ole, but that’s another argument.
The backlash would be crazy if we start the season badly.. maybe the glazers really are looking to sell and trying to pocket as much as possible before them and Ed feck off, at least that’s what I hope will happen.

I'm sure i read that we're averaging a £50m net spend since the glazers took over. If we've got a net spend of around £70m this summer then expect the purse strings to be tightened next year. Can we buy Sancho with £30m?

With a year older Matic, and losing Herrera, and Lukaku (even if he doesn’t fit our approach, he still scored some goals, to me he needs to be replaced by someone, what happens if martial or Rashford gets a long injury). I would say maybe we broke even as far as improvement.
Also many people are complaining because the improvement is not enough, do you think our midfield/forward situation is okay? A team like us should be striving for more than maybe competing for top four, which I know you’re not saying you’re okay with maybe top four, but that’s the reality of our squad/lack of signings in few important areas.
Has it? The defence is better, but the attack will be weaker if we sell Lukaku.
What was our profit over last 24 months?
City got Rodri and a back up right back, Chelsea got no one, Tottenham got Ndombele, Liverpool have got no one, Arsenal got only Pepe. How are we having a worse summer than our rivals?
Before the summer window was open, City, Liverpool, Spurs, and Chelsea had better squads than us. Now City got Rodri and Cancelo who are both capable backups and Rodri would be first choice if he came here. Spurs bought Ndombele and are on the verge of getting Lo Celso and Sessengnon who are both quality players and provide depth. Arsenal got Pepe and close to signing Tierney and possibly David Luiz. Chelsea did have quite a few players return from loan and they've added Pulisic although they did lose Hazard which is a big blow. If we want to close the gap between City, Pool & Spurs, we had to bring in atleast 5 players. We did bring in Maguire and Wan Bassaka who were an absolute need. However, we lost Herrera and Lukaku and we don't seem to have any backups for them. So we've strengthened at the back but our midfield and attack has been weakened. Therefore, we've not had a great summer. 4/10 if you look at it. We will at best finish 4th.... which shouldn't be the case because we should be posing a title challenge and if we have injuries, we are going to have a huge problem.
Spurs have got Ndombele and Lo Celso and will sign Sessegnon tomorrow.
Arsenal have signed Pepe, that young defender who's gone back on loan, Tierny is pretty much a done deal and they've got Cebellos on loan. That's top business from the north London teams!
-City also don’t need players, they’re pretty much strong in all positions specially compared to us.
-Liverpool have Klopp and he seems like he gets the best out of players that are decent, also won the champions league last season.
-Arsenal got Pepe, saliba, looks like getting Luiz, and tierney loaned ceballos.
-Spurs got ndombele and looks like they’ll be getting another mid/cam while also having a pretty strong squad.
-Chelsea have a transfer ban, so we can’t really add them to the mix.
With all that being said, ignoring what our rivals are doing, we did not do enough to improve us considerably in my opinion. We technically still need about 2 mids (cdm and a cm), a right wing, and a forward, I know it all can’t be done in one window, but we’re also one of the richest clubs in the world, and I’m sure we could’ve had at least one cm on top of the two starters we managed to buy.
Strengthening the defense but weakening the midfield and attack is NOT improvement on paper.
So we have 35m left over..... Mandžukić (10m) & Ziyech (25M) anyone?
