It's our delivery mainly. I'd say at least 50% of our corners don't even clear the first man
I’ll answer myself and share that Newcastle apparently went 386 corners across 102 competitive matches without scoring once:I wonder what the record is for most corners in a season until a team’s first goal?
I remember when we signed Bruno, he assisted Maguire at Chelsea and we thought our set pieces were all sorted for the forseeable.
That new set-piece coach really earning his money. Just the latest example of United's exceptional recirument policy.
nope we took him from chelsea, but was working with their u23s i believeHe's only ever been a youth team assistant coach except at Shrewsbury, I believe. He got hired as our first team set-piece coach based on glowing recommendations from his college mate, McKenna.
Are we talking about Ed and Arnold here? He's only ever been a youth team assistant coach except at Shrewsbury, I believe. He got hired as our first team set-piece coach based on glowing recommendations from his college mate, McKenna.
I bet 90 out of those 100 never made it past the first defender at the near post.
This. Which shows how poor our crossers are. Sadly unbelievable.I bet 90 out of those 100 never made it past the first defender at the near post.
I get sad when we get corners. You just know it's a loss of possession and risk for a counter.
I still think the lack of run up space due to the narrow run offs hinders us with these.
For instance look at Gallagher's corner at 2 mins in here:
The best way to take corners is like that, initially high at a good pace, and then it dips and swings away from the defenders. It makes it very hard for the defenders to clear it, whereas the attackers can can get good power on the header quite easily due to the flight of the ball. Also allows time for the attackers to set themselves vs low, fast corners.
As you can see in that video, Gallagher takes a fairly long run up, which wouldn't be possible at Old Trafford. Of course there are loads of players who don't need the long run up, but the lack of space at OT probably doesn't help. But again it's probably another issue with our poor coaching more than anything.
