Álvaro Morata | Performances

Shit. Would have preferred United to have signed him instead of Lukaku. He could be another Torres, everyone said he would smash it at Chelsea and look what happened (fluke CL aside).

Kinda feel for Conte. Undisputed #1 target was Lukaku and they were the only ones in contention for him, or at least that's what Chelsea thought. Their board thought they could just camp outside Everton's castle and wait for them to cave in and drop the price. And the rest is history.

Then Conte complains about Morata's form saying he isn't strong enough (Lukaku eh ;)). Add on top his poor performances thus far and then Conte pretty much backtracking / lack of confidence by saying he'd take Kane at this very moment.

And then their board selling Matic to us without Conte's consent while clearly being able to see the frustration on his face as he explains how that unfolded. Plus today's Morata penalty which no doubt has to have added even more pressure and frustration.

...but then again on second thought, I have close to no remorse for Conte and Chelsea. You snooze you lose. Hasn't even scored a goal yet. This is why you don't buy bench warmers at a premium cost, Floprata

Chelsea enables Real Madrid to acquire a player like Mbappé

Not going to write him off but I dint get these that say he's a good player. Chelsea paid 70 million for essentially a bench player that has only ever scored more than 10 goals in a season once, that is bad business whichever way you look at it

Chelsea might as well saved ALOT of money and signed Chicharito, he's guaranteed to score just as many probably more.

Eventually he will come good. I think he is better than lacazette, he will score lot of headed goals. Hazard in that side will help him alot.It is fun to make fun of him while he is unfit but do think he will be good for chelsea.

Mbappe's market value: more than 150 millions of euros.
Barcelona has 220 millions to spend
Yes, 70 millions is helpful
It doesn't hurt. They could buy him anyway, though. They're the biggest club on the planet and have smashed the world transfer record on multiple occasions. Chelsea didn't enable anything.

RM is more cautious than you think

He's played 26 minutes?

We actually don't know that. All indications were we preferred him over Lukaku then switched positions when Perez wouldn't lower the price.

Pretty sure most reports said that Lukaku was our first-choice but we thought he was off to Chelsea. When we found out there was an opening we went in and closed the deal. I really can't imagine Mourinho preferring Morata over Lukaku, it doesn't make sense at all considering the qualities of both players and the manager's career-spanning tendencies regarding the striker position.

Overreaction is a bit ridiculous. I remember when Liverpool signed Torres back in the day and he made his debut in HK against some BPL team, missed a pen and we all thought he was going to be shit for them.

He has barely played for them.

Overreations based on 15 minutes isn't as bad as proclaiming him as Gods gift based on Youtube vids of Morata v Granada though.

Hell, I was writing him off even before he was born. You people are lagging behind in this Blade Runneresque fast-moving world of technological thingies and whatnot.

It's funny how Lindelof's already a complete failure based on friendlies but when same is said about Morata (other club's player, older, far more money and expectations and has joined from a bigger club than Benfica) more than half the thread is people defending him.

He'll come good. Then again, he's at Chelsea. I wonder if he'd even be given that. He's Conte's guy, and Conte doesn't seem all to secure in his job himself.

The two are not remotely related to one another. Anyone criticizing Lindelof based on pre-season performances obviously has a limited cranial capacity and those criticizing Morata for 16 minutes of sub debut work are not very far behind. You want long time horizons, as in at least several months before starting with the negative kneejerking.

His pre-season with Chelsea wasnt good and I also believe he will struggle this first season in the premier league. Surely he will score, maybe even get around 15 goals. Second season he will be a different player for sure. Lots of potential for this guy.

As for the Lukaku purchase its a much safer transfer with a premier league proven striker. A plus is the pace and strength he has. I predict 20+ goals this season.

Exactly. Why criticize Lindelof? And why are some of the people defending Morata after his shit pre-season not doing the same for Victor? I doubt many Chelsea fans in their forums (if they even have :D ) are saying hey, give that swedish guy some time, he may turn out good. No, they're having a laugh. I get that some people are trying to look objective and show off their not biased opinion and whatever but it's just weird how that guy gets more support than our own player.

not at all. People were doing that before my post. Just because I did not put verbatim does not change the fact it was being implied. Also, it's called paraphrasing and captured the spirit of what people were syaing. He was being judged already as a failure.

Funny thing is my argument was that it WAS being implied and you have just literally made up an argument in your head that I have said "ok so it hasn't been implied".

Let me make it simple for you. It IS being implied and that is my argument. Looks like you're changing your story and have hypocritically set up a straw man. Rather Ironic.

Not sure why you are getting so worked up over it. Guess I have the power of foresight as everything I said is coming to fruition. Aside from implying that people were already questioning him based on a few minutes in his first game, it was also said in the spirit of how I anticipated the reactions which you now have had to concede are happening. Joking aside it's not rocket science it was obvious it was going to happen.

Are you ok now or do you need more clarification? Word of advice don't go on a crusade over a lazy and unclear comment. Lifes to short.

You've just written 200 words without saying a thing!

Have no idea what you are going on about

Agree with this. Also worth noting he hasn't played a lot of football lately, doesn't look match fit to me at all.

Anyone making any sort of assessment based on a 16 min cameo in the Charity Shield clearly has an agenda.

Moratta is obviously a class act and the only real question is how long it will take him to adjust and just how successful he can become.

Still see him as the Spanish Welbeck, with a slightly better record skewed by the team he played for, and him stay healthy.

I'm just glad we bought Lukaku. He's not my dream striker, but the much better option to have.

You can't judge him on the Charity Shield but I feel this is pretty much spot on. He's going to play well for them but he needs to play alongside Costa not instead of him, he's a supporting striker. They're going to be very disappointed if they're expecting him to score all the goals for them.

I think he will be a good player for Chelsea, Conte said he isn't fit. Would be surprised if he was though as he didn't play much in preseason.

The guy has been through a lot professionally and personally, think its fair to give him more than two weeks at his new club:lol:.
