Álvaro Morata | Performances

Thats one of the worst performances I've ever seen.
I hope a highlights package gets uploaded somewhere
Really? It wasn't even the worst performance by a Chelsea striker on the night.

@Dancfc
Missing two glorious chances, falling over from no contact onto the ball trying to claim a freekick that was given against him because of it and then the penalty debacle.
All within what? 25 minutes?
Its right up there anyway

On the evidence of the season so far, Lukaku is a cut above Morata and Lacazette.
TBF they are about same quality. They are good but not great strikers, level below the really top quality ones. There is no way any of these three would get into team infront of Cole, RVN, Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo, RVP,... strikers which were first choice for us before. But there really isn't a lot of top quality real strikers around anymore tbf.

He's very clearly fouled but referees won't give anything unless the striker ends up on the floor. If referees started giving difficult decisions then players might no longer feel the need to throw themselves to the floor.

Such a huge gap in mental strength between him and Costa, and Chelsea are paying for it now.

He has this habit of going down too easily and I think soon he will develop a reputation
He's done that from very first few minutes he joined EPL, never observed him enough before but that was striking to me - seems like refs no longer buying his cheap tricks.

You seem to have a different barometer of what constitutes a bad performance. He came on, linked up well and our buildup play improved with him upfront. Batshauyi may have scored but beyond that he was pathetic, made all the wrong runs and movement and was dispossessed everytime he got it, killing any potential chance of an attack.

Im not saying he was great, far from it, but along way from one of the worst ever and this talk of Lukaku suddenly being better based on it is laughable, all his returns to Stamford Bridge alone have been worse.

Refs are different in this league. La Liga refs fall for his dives all the time, but in this league Refs are used to a more physical game.

I think the talk of Lukaku being better comes from the fact Lukaku has proven that he can be the main man and bang in goals in this league at a rate that only Harry Kane can better. The fact that you find that laughable when Morata has spent his career as backup would indicate more than a little bias.

All this talk of Lukaku having a slow start for us and he is still only a couple of goals away from equalling Morata's best ever tally, and it's January.

To think people wanted him here... thankfully that didn't happen! He looks like a post room boy rather than a footballer.

Not really, i have never been keen on him and felt he found his level at Everton. I'd be a lot more worried if you turned Rom into a super sub and made Martial the main striker, that lad has it all and is wasted on the wing.

Martial generally plays better from the left. Lukaku will very likely end up with 30 goals in his first season without a single penalty and his overall play has gotten better and better, I reckon he's fitting in nicely and our level is a little above Everton in my humble opinion.

I agree Lukaku will score goals, but that's not why i didn't want him back. My prediction was whoever signed him would look for an upgrade eventually. You obviously watch United more so are better placed to comment but i always felt Martial is at his devastating best as a striker who drifts wide, cliche as this sounds a bit like Henry.

It was always going to be a big gamble for any team to bring in Morata. Playing 90 minutes every week is a completely different challenge to being a super sub for Madrid. Chelsea need to give him a few weeks off and he’ll come back to some sort of a scoring form.

I think there is this weird cliché about Lukaku being a bit rubbish outside of scoring loads of goals. I think it comes from his younger days when he was not very coordinated due to growing into his frame and a couple of overused clips of him miscontrolling the ball. His all around game is actually very good and he is fantastic at bringing others into the game.

Martial has played well up front but most of his best performances have come from out wide drifting in. Rashford is better up front than out wide.

I thought the same, but after watching him this season I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Wish more of our players could cross as good as he does.

I’d rate Lukaku above Tevez and the early United Cole. Very different players, though. For a Mourinho side, only Ronaldo and top level Rooney would be certain to get in ahead of Lukaku I reckon.

Only transfer muppets will understand why Morata is the Italian Welbeck

I think all this diving is partly due to a lack of confidence.

Hes playing really poorly though for whatever reason and Lukaku is looking much the better signing on current showing.

As a no.9 in both and Conte's and Jose's system a striker has to do more than just bang in the goal something Morata has not been doing while Lukaku is back at it.

Lukaku is clearly a better footballer even with a questionable first touch. He makes the right kind of runs, runs the channel often and is better at 1-2s than Morata is. Also he is mentally much stronger than Morata who right now doesn't know where his next goal is going to come from. He'd score 25 odd goals but I think with United lacking any kind of backup it's a blessing in disguise we missed out on Morata and had a chance with Lukaku who has a higher ceiling as well.

Agree about the first paragraph, although you're talking to one of the most biased Chelsea fans on here so he won't understand. Lukaku is crap outside the goals is an opinion sprouted by people who know feck all about football and haven't seen him play for United.

Thats funny, because scores of your own fans have the same view aswell.

And they obviously don't watch either. There was a game earlier this season where he should have had four assists. His hold up play and distribution has been great.

Lukaku's all round play has been brilliant thus far, wish more of our players could play like him. I was expecting an oaf after reading some comments in the thread when Lukaku signed for us.
