Álvaro Morata | Performances

Fair comment BR but we need to get to that level first.
Yeah, that's the whole point though isn't it? We spent 75m on him, Chelsea spent over 60m or whatever on Morata, and neither will be players who really improve the teams on what they had or improve the others around them. They're solid players, but I've always felt that you want your striker to be one of the star players, while other positions can be more good squad players who can perform at a higher level.

There is a real lack of top young strikers out there who aren't already at big clubs though. Morata and Lukaku were pretty much the best options available in the summer and we all knew neither were likely to be a Lewa or Aguero.

He's nothing special with the ball at his feet, there's nothing there.

Hes struggling in England imo, and im surprised hes not getting a bit more flack than he actually is. Perhaps its because he's new to the league that he is getting an easy ride of it at the moment (which is fair enough). Seems to be very cumbersome, and his finishing can be woeful at times.

What? He’s been like this everywhere he’s played. Good at everything but being a team’s reliable first choice nr 9, which is why he wasn’t always first choice at Real and Juve. When he played, it was usually alongside another nr 9 or 9 and a half (Ronaldo, Tevez or Mandzukic).

That's because he doesn't play for us.

Morata, Lukaku and Lacazette. I was expecting some big, season-long shootout between the three but they've all been disappointing.

Not a good half and trust me unlike lukaku he does get some good service so he should be doing more considering hazard alone frees up a lot of space for him and yet sometime's he look so confused.

He's been pretty immune from critisim compared to Lukaku which is mental considering he hasn't been all too great himself. Some of the Chelsea fans on here in particular, would have you believe that Morata has been excellent whereas the truth is, he's struggled as much as Lukaku and blown both hot and cold.

We all bought solid (rather than top class) strikers. I think they've performed pretty much as expected. Not really the fault of the clubs - along with Belotti, these were really the only viable options in the summer. They should score plenty of goals at their current clubs but are unlikely to elevate their sides to the highest level.

The athleticism of defenders in England is, imo, a fair bit higher than anywhere else. You're seeing in England more than anywhere, the influence of Mourinho. The entire league re-aligned to the way Mourinho built Chelsea, with stud athletes who defended well and could roast you on the counter with powerful direct players. With the money the premier league gives its clubs, it's allowed teams to really orient their clubs in this manner, with these really athletic defenders. Now, is this the BEST way to play? No, if money is no option you can build a better team, but for bang for your buck, it's hard to beat the Mourinho style in terms of efficiency.

It's why I think a lot of players struggle in England, because if they don't have something special to their game, they can just get out athlete'd by defenders here. Like Depay. Depay in the Europa? He looked like a lord. In the Prem? He looked like a donkey.

Imagine Lukaku missed that for us. You’d never hear the end of it.

Still think Morata is a good player though.

He's providing nothing on the counter and is failing to hold the ball up for Hazard to play off of him.

He's a good player but he's bizarrely overrated by posters on this forum who would probably be the first to slate him if he played for us.

been terrible today. god. looks like he's actively trying to win the "fraud watch" title

Think some on here would’ve had a heart attack if Lukaku played like this.

Terrible finishing, terrible touch and shite passing.

Totally agree; at the moment, Kane is the only consistently top class striker in the league imo
