I'm still laughing at this two days later

Ozil is better than Rooney and Kagawa. In fact, we don't even know if Kagawa will make it at this club. He's still unproven. Yet some of you are banging about him like he's influential to our game. The jury is still out on him.

Not signing Ozil is a huge show of faith in Kagawa who, let's face it, hasn't set the world alight in the limited chances he has got. Let us see if he rewards us for our faith, and if he does and recaptures any of his Dortmund form then we'll all be laughing.

------------RVP ------Rooney
------------------Ozil----------
Kagawa-----------------------------Nani
----------------Fellaini-----------

Evra----------Vidic-----Rio----------Rafael

Would get destroyed. Play like the galacticos and lose. People need to accept we weren't in for him and move on.

This 'top class holding player' twaddle is preached by the generation raised on Fifa and endless articles on midfield destroyers. ] Rather the ''midfielder destroyer' twaddle is talked of by people who haven't a clue what an actual holding player operates like. The type who think Makelele was an actual midifielder and that players who are used in that role are only limited, anti football ambassadors.

Look at the top teams in the top leagues around the world. All of them have a midfield layer capable of shielding the back four and able to pass the ball more than 10 feet. The ability to tackle, harry, press and dominate and then distribute play on the break is what is required... .
Which is exactly what a top class holding player is. Think Sergio Busquets or Javi Martinez. Or even your former player Alex song. Any who thinks a Arteta is in that league needs their head examined for proof of a brain...

In Arteta, Ramsey, and Flamini we now have three players capable of disciplined midfield play and with passing and energy levels to match.] Last season time and again Arteta left your back 4 exposed and made Mertesacker and Koscielny resemble a worse center back pairing than they actually are. Of those 3 you mentioned only Flamini has the required discipline for the role, yet lacks the passing flair and is also unlikely he will ever get into your team ahead of Wilshere, Ramsey, Arteta or Diaby on the regular.

Arteta was the best passer in all the leagues combined last term. I'd even say that from the start of Jan till May '13, Arteta was better than Alonso in that role.] Passing alone has never made a player good in the role. You also have to a actually be good at defending and impeccable with positioning. Else team would merely employ the best passer of the ball in their team's there. The notion that Aretata is any where near Xabi Alonso levels in the role is hilariously misguided.

Ridiculous how a whole segment of fans suddenly refuse to watch actual football and genuinely start believing fancy terms thrown at them by video games.
It's even more ridiculous how people regularly display their total lack of knowledge of what an actual top holding player/defensive midfielder really is and how they operate.

I love how signing Ozil is making everything rosy for Arsenal fans. Now even Ramsey, Arteta and Mertesacker are world class.

You won't win the league muppets.

Well I'd rather have Özil on the left than fecking Young or Giggs.

as much as i'd have loved to have seen ozil in an united shirt, i'd rather be double teamed by young and giggs tbh.

Agreed. He could maybe have come in and played left hand side, if Evra was given licence to push on and Ozil to come inside - but it potentially leaves us unbalanced.

Most likely scenario - if he came in, Rooney would have been moved on. Had the Bale deal gone through eralier I suspect a lot of other clubs would have looked at Ozil.

Man said ozil will make Giroud the top striker in Europe loool

What I like about Giroud is his attitude towards becoming a top striker; he's always willing to learn and work hard to get better. That's all you need from a player really because we can all see he already has the 'brains' of a striker. Players like Ozil can help him to raise his game to become a better player. In contrast, it's a shame that Rooney isn't the motivated player he once was for Utd. A firing Rooney and RVP in his current form would have been a sight to behold.

I rate Giroud, needed a season to bed in at Arsenal and now he's starting to show his talent. Ozil will provide him with a few chance each game, so yes having Ozil will help Giroud no end. Sensible comment really.

Looking at Giroud's stats, his record has been pretty much identical at every club he's been at.
At Istres he has 14 goals in 34 games, then he went to Tours, scored 14 in 27 games in first season, then 24 goals in 42 games second season.
Then he got transferred to Montpellier, scored 14 goals in 43 games, then 25 goals in 43 games second season.
Now at Arsenal he has 17 goals in 47 games first season, and so far 4 in 5 games this season. He'll probably get close to 30 goals this season to be honest, with the likes of Ozil and Cazorla behind him. The thing that's evident throughout his career though was he needed one season to settle in the club, wherever he's been.

Best striker in Europe though? Get out

Arsenal spent the whole summer chasing strikers without success (Higuain, Suarez) and also failed in the need to strengthen their defender options.

Ozil is not somebody that Arsenal especially needed since they were already pretty well-stocked in the attacking midfield area. I reckon he was signed largely because Wenger was pressurised into spending a lot of money on somebody.

Well, a Spurs fan would say that.

In reality, the prospect of signing a player like Ozil is one that is too good to turn down. Fair play to Arsenal.

Well we had Wright, Kiwomya, Dickov and Hartson so didn't really need Bergkamp either but look how that turned out!

I agree buying Ozil is a true panic buy if I ever saw one....

Signed only in the last hours of the window, after weeks of failed attempts to sign the likes of Higuain and Suarez, with loud noises of fan discontent over the unspent money stacked up doing nothing.

Yep. I think you've nailed it.

Still, he's better than all the players you signed. Your signings won't have Ozil's impacts so you'll probably finish 5th again because you made too many signings that need time to adapt (some of them don't look good enough already).

Was it not essentially a done deal before the final day, just dependant on the formalities of the Bale move getting completed?

Glaston has finally taken the plunge into full-retard mode.
Tough couple of days for him, they paraded nearly £100M worth of underwhelm on Sunday (especially Barry-inho and Pile-o-poo) and got beat. Then Wenger blows their signings away by getting Ozil.

This is what happens when you go for the elite players in world football. It doesn't matter how you get the deals done as long as you get the deal done. Maybe the reason was got Ozil so late was because of Levy delaying R.Madrid's purchase of your one top class player? Higuain we backed out of rather than him not wanting to join, as we have seen R.Madrid quite happy to do business with us. With others not quite as straight forward to pull off as the likes of Soldado & co, interesting better clubs didn't go for them. We saw with Willian what happens when better clubs come in. Don't get me wrong Spurs signed some very good players and they have good potential but I can't say I look at any of them and saw we missed out. Lamela is probably the pick of the bunch but I'd take Ozil at ~£40mill over him at ~£30mill any day.

Not been an ideal transfer window but enough to improve us. Talking about discontent among fans I hear yours haven't been too pleased in the last few days either, especially your "partnership" with R.Madrid  I wonder if they get first dibs if any of your current players turn out top class as well?

They'd better hope Eriksen and Lamela do OK because what they've bought seems to be an attempt to cement 5th.

Ozil isn't a panic buy, he's an opportunity one. There was a world class player on offer and Arsenal quite rightly went for him.

If you have great players in your side you can fit the others around and it can often mask any supposed weaknesses as well.

I love the idea that fan pressure made Arsene think oh feck I need spend £42mill on Ozil, like he would of rejected that idea earlier on in the summer. I'm sure Gazidis had a gun to his head when we put in a £40mill (+1) bid for Suarez as well

Arsenal fans were much less annoying when it was all doom and gloom.

I agree with Glaston, in a way, Ozil plays in the posistion Arsenal needed to strengthen least. Whether the improvement he brings is enough to single handidly paper over all the cracks that the failure to strenghten at the back, at defensive midfield and upfront have left is far too early to be seen.

That's true (although the Ozil signing may mean that they just use Podolski as the cover up front) and I think most Arsenal fans recognise that they still need more but it's a magnificent signing, far and away the best player bought by a Premier League side, and Tottenham fans are hardly in a position to talk when they're still poor at full back and have filled their squad with uncreative holding midfielders.
