Why are be bothering with two strikers when we can't get the ball to either one of them? Our best moments of possession have been de Gea to Blackett, to Smalling, to Fletcher, back to de Gea.

    @bosnian_red

Just to expand on previous post. Just three times in five last Fergie years at United we fought these lower league teams, and it wasn't as bad as you thought it might've been.

    Aldershot 3-0
    Crawley Town 1-0
    Scunthorpe United 5-2

That was pretty tumescent. Our back 3 and fletcher are so poor on the ball it really screws us over in this system, doesn't really work without Carrick or blind.

Wouldn't mind seeing januzaj for a centre back and stuck out wide and Herrera playing deeper that he is. At least falcao has looked half decent.

There was one stream like that for one match last season. Watching it was absolute bliss. Then the bastard running it switched to French commentary for the last 20 minutes :(
I don't mind the foreign commentary because you can't hear the anti-United bias. Russians are the best because they hardly ever get excitable.

Very poor. As I said earlier, determined and motivated smaller team vs unfocused and frustrated bigger team. Our play is very sloppy and have struggled under pressure of Yeovil. Fortunately, for all of Yeovil's huffing and puffing they have had a few scrappy incidents in the box but no real chances while we have had a few half chances here and there.

Fletcher hasn't actually been the worst player on the pitch, that goes to Herrera and could be taken off for Di Maria. McNair might have handled the ball but it isn't a red card, though we are looking for more composure under pressure from him. Hopefully Yeovil will run out of steam and we can kill them towards the end.

LVG may be a renowned manager and doing well at United, but when it comes to 3-5-2, he has no clue.

Manchester United cannot even comfortably pass the ball against Yeovil  LVG has no understanding of the system if he think United understand it and use it too decent effect.

He can easily play 4-3-1-2, with a Carrick or Fletcher type as the deep midfield picking up 3rd centre back duties but LVG's beyond saving.

We may finish 3rd but we'll never look like a side better than Yeovil at any point this season with a back 3.

Get a grip Louis, put your pride behind you and play the system the players look comfortable in.

Can't pass, can't control the ball, can't play with any composure. It's because we are playing 3-5-2 formation. The team will suddenly start doing these basics things right once we revert to a back four.

Is it me or do we always have our rivals old players being pundits for our games yet Liverpool will have their own old players?

romance of the FA cup eh.

This is an appalling game, rubbish opposition, ball in the air a lot. We're playing a right old mix and match, and it's all tedious stuff.

Does make you question the difference in quality between the Yeovil 1k a week striker, and our 200k or so one though!

Don't want a replay at all..i have to buy that!

    My observations:

    - Shaw and Rafael aren't good enough going forward to play in this system. Valencia and Young are much better at retaining the ball in advanced situations, Shaw and Rafael get confused and play silly passes or crosses.

    - Blackett has no awareness of anything around him. McNair is a bit shaken after the collision.

    - Wilson is looking good, the only one in the front 3 with pace and energy, and is showing some good touches to hold the ball up and play people in

    - Falcao looks slow

I'd bring on Di Maria for a centre back in the second half, but I'm guessing LvG will probably end up bringing him on for Herrera and going with 352 to death.

I've only got the radio on so popped in to see if this is as bad as it sounds. Oh dear.

Januzaj has a point to prove, so get him on.

Looking behind us,4-4-2 is part of us,even then i remember people moaning about 4-4-2,calling it outdated etc. Today people having a go at 3-5-2,for them thats the reason why we look poor.

Formation is just that,a formation,it is not a way of play.Liverpool recently changed to 3-4-3,where they have good movement in those 3 up top, guess some might say that they look better with 3 at the back.I believe that we have some players with poor IQ when it comes to football, also they need way more time to adapt, change their patterns,to learn.

I doubt LvG thinks by watching us that we look great on the pitch with 3-5-2 but then again maybe he believes that no one is that stupid not to get it at the end.

You have to take into account that Yeovil is getting a once in a lifetime opportunity to play us and they would be more than up for it. But that doesn't excuse the absolutely shit performance we're putting in.

The 3-5-2 is absolutely useless without Carrick or Blind bridging the backs to the midfield. Rafael and Shaw keep coming up the wings and it's very easy to defend against this. All Yeovil need to do is shut the wings off and we don't have any pace in the middle to force it through. Fletcher always looks a second from getting overrun when he's on the ball and Rooney hasn't made one decent play forward.

In the few times we quickened the pace it's obvious that Yeovil can't match us. But this formation doesn't allow us to play aggressively and the CBs are left alone in our half and keep playing long balls that are only 50/50s. Falcao, BTW, was utter wank that half.

My guess is that Yeovil will make a mistake or tire and we get this but I'm not holding my breath. We look just as vulnerable.

Surely have to get McNair off? He hasn't had a great game (to be fair, nobody has), but more importantly that was a nasty knock he took early on. Can't risk his health after suffering a head injury like that.

Apart from that, some horrible football being played. Need a proper midfield and natural width. I'm confident in Rafael and Shaw's abilities as wingbacks, but I'd prefer to switch to a back 4, to echo the sentiments of all. Disappointed in Herrera, but, again, nobody has been playing well. Looking all to familiar at the moment.

He never played this 5-3-2 bullshit apart from hins Netherland spell right? Don't know why he persists with it. I hate it with passion.

Very disappointing from him. He's the last player who should be switching off and ambling towards the ball (and inexcusably letting it go out of touch.)

I didn't say one was worse than the other, and I said both were having bad games in my post, so not sure why you are choosing my post to criticise out of all the possibilities.
One is terrible, one is invisible. Terrible sounds much worse. Least Fletch has shown up...

Fecking hell, physically similar players are in the PL, if he is so easy to denutralize, he isnt worth keeping. Even Wilson is making more out of it, and he's skinny. Falcao is way too clumsy and unbalanced so far, could be due to his injury, but its starting to be a problem if he cant win any battles. Just compare him with lets say Cista, Giroud, Pelle in that aspect.

I agree that there are players the same size that can hold there own against oak trees, but its worth noticing that this is his weakness, running up against physical defenders. He relies on the players around him, setting him up for his movement and pace around the box.

If they score I'm turning it off and going to play TLoU

There was a moment when I wished they would. Reminded me of last year. Just to wake us up. I hate this feeling but on days like these I hope it happens. Maybe LvG will then realise that his system sucks balls.

    Rooney is not a midfielder.
Its time to stop fecking around and push him upfront.
Players playing out of position coupled with 352 and a weak midfield and you get a display like this.

Hope Di Maria is coming on
    Mata too.

I remember at least one diagonal ball from Blackett into Rafael or Herrara that would have been applauded had it come from Rooney

    Yeah I feel like that.

Actually Herrera created the only chance we had.

I do think that the 3-5-2 will be changed.

Australia was doing very well against the dutch at the world cup and LVG changed it up and it changed the game.

The biggest mistake United has been repeatedly making is playing Darren Flectcher.
He is no more the player of the old. He has no ball control skill and is very lazy these days as he
is not moving into space for the return ball from his defender. If he still plays in the 2nd half, United may be KO. Luke Shaw is unfit, has no speed or skill to beat the defender? Wonder why he is worth so much money?? United has to bring on Di Maria, move McNair to midfield in the holding roll.

I agree but the problem runs far deeper then simply Darren Fletcher. Having both him and Rooney in midfield is a death sentence where neither one of them has the best of touches, aren't adept at using space, and aren't consistent with their passing and decision making.

RE: Shaw, harsh on him. I think he's very sound defensively and you can't blame him for failing to blitz the left wing when all too often we leave our wingbacks stranded on their own, expect them to beat 2-3 defenders collapsing on them and just pile ourselves into the box. It's a problem that higher management have to account for and fix. We also tend to play the ball into his feet rather than try to release him. Rooney had to chance to and messed up the pass royally.

I agree. Get Di Maria on with him, and I imagine we'll see a very different Falcao.

Haven't we played the same shite system against MK Dons?

If he didn't realise that it sucks after 4-0 to MK Dons, I doubt that losing against Yoloville will help.
