We've been looking fine defensively since the first 3 minutes or so, other than a brain fart by Shaw to pressure instead of containment when Blind and Di Maria were out of position. Blind especially needs to stop getting caught so high up all the time.Both mata and RvP should be dropped when falcao and rooney are fully available
We're holding possession quite well, But it's largely out wide, and deep in our midfield where Blind is.
It's still lacking zip, and we still don't seem to have that guy in the middle who can really hold it under pressure in and around that D.
Quite often there's a huge gap in front of Blind.I dream of the days when we used to comfortably put these sorts of teams away.No urgency at all.

Opposition players seem to play with so much more freedom, perhaps because they have less to lose. Our players are so shit scared of making mistakes that they don't do anything. New players coming into the team will have some freshness and creativity for the first few games, but then it sets in...So many long balls, what the heck.Defense looking very vulnerable again.
If something does not come from DI Maria then it is hard to see where it is going to come from in this Utd squad this season.
We need other players to start stepping up to the mark and we need them quick.

Doubt so. Thus far it's just Irvine out-tacticing van Gaal. They scored an early goal and parked it - a newly formed team will always struggle against teams who set out to defend. We're yet to play a team we can catch on the break, our pace is pretty much rendered useless when they have 7-8 men behind the ball. City will come at us all guns blazing, a draw is not a far fetch. Their defense has been less than stellar.
Chelsea will completely obliterate us, though.Not good from us so far...
