I can't lie, I'm pretty angry at that lineup.

You don't lose 5 nil at home to Liverpool and then pick all the same worst performing players in the next game. Who is getting punished here? Greenwood and Rashford?

    He could've gone:

    De Gea
    Bailly Varane Maguire
    Dalot VdBeek Matic Telles
    Bruno
    Cavani Ronaldo
We wouldn't have been any weaker and it would send a message as to the standards expected at United.

The only thing I'm getting from the lineup today is a total lack of accountability, particularly of the likes of Maguire, Shaw, AwB, McTominay and Fred.

Saying that, if the players put in a shift and we get a 5-0 ourselves (exaggerating, but you get my point), I wonder how fans would react to that. Would we be saying that he was right to give the players a chance to redeem themselves? I don't know, really.

I think he means 5 defenders and 2 defensive mids, plus a keeper.

Could hardly get more defensive unless we took Bruno out and brought Matic in.
And maybe switched Ronaldo for Lingard.
That will happen if we are leading by a goal

Should have started Matic too just for extra cover- JOKE

Rightly so. Conte and Keane make this team win a League. I firmly believe this.

The talent is in the squad. They need direction and to be focused.

What part of Keane's past management/coaching experience gives you any faith in him succeeding here?

Would have been better playing McTominay as CB and VDB in midfield.

I’d be interested in seeing that. All for a change of system and an emphasis on tightening up. But the lineup going forward worries me - unless they let McT play further forward.

Last time we played with this formation, the players had no clue. It was the game against Leipzig which got us knocked out of the Champions' League.

The only players that deserve to be disregarded are Mata and maybe Lingard as they're surplus to requirements.

The rest of the squad are worth a game or two.

It's shocking use of the squad. To put it in perspective Fergie could win a League with Anderson, Cleverley and Fletcher type players.

Not all winning teams need 11 superstars in the lineup.
He only has himself to blame. Last season he was given leeway because it was ‘only’ players like Matic, James, Amad etc. on his bench. This season he has one of the most stacked sides in Europe and he still refuses to move from his underperforming players.

I’ve been thinking they should try Bruno behind the deadly two - can’t wait to see it in action.

He should pick 11 players out of a squad that among the best in the league,

    He has.

why is he getting beat 5-0 anyway?

5-0 games happen every week. It's football.

Look at that bench ffs we're playing like shit and he's picking a team full of defensive players who are out of form (Maguire, Shaw, Fred, McTominay, AWB) I wouldn't mind but Spurs are worse than us and we've gone their not to lose.

Say he picks another attacking team, what happens if spurs, who to be fair have some real attacking talent, blow through us like last week? What then?

At least giving us a solid defensive platform, ie more players to help those that are struggling right now, means we can introduce more attacking players later on if needed. The problem last week was that despite our form, Ole decided to try to go at liverpool and we got spanked. Sure, spurs are crap right now, but they are the side that can claim a massive scalp this weekend, not us.

The formation today is almost the formation Conte uses.

With this formation I would have used Telles as left wing back instead of Shaw, who is playing bad at the moment. Telles is good at coming forward, and we do not have many creative players in the line-up. I would also have used Rashford instead of Cavani or Ronaldo. If we are going to create anything on counter attacks, we can not play with both Ronaldo and Cavani up front.

It's a patchwork job to an ongoing problem. I get why he's doing it, but it's also... 3 years in, abandoning what he's been trying to do and going with more defensive players to try and get a clean sheet and experience up top. Not pretty for sure and not sustainable for anything more than just 1 game.
yeah I get it, but there still has to be a plan. How are we going to transition with zero pace up front? If Spurs then know this, then there's no fear for them on the counter, and they can push up in our half at will.

    This lineup is complete suicide.

DVB has probably given up by now. Bailly and Telles too.

It seems like he's thrown out any semblance of a plan and is relying on his big-name players to step up for him today.

I don't see how Bruno, Cavani and Ronaldo are better options than Sancho, Greenwood and Rashford in this counter-attacking setup.
I’m starting to feel this way for the squad too, I’ve always been a ‘take your chance when you come on’ kind of person but look at that West Hame performance in the LC, how can we expect more when they don’t play.

    How is it cowardice?

He's continuing with the same damn players, just trying to bulk his defence up by playing three at the back. That McFred duo has been playing terribly and getting run through, does he change it? No, he just puts another defender behind them.

It reeks of stacking men behind the ball, rather than trying to find a way to control a game.

Solskjaer wants us pressing so he puts Cavani in who will drag the team’s average press per minute up 20 fold.

Wow the line up is beyond belief. Playing 3 at the back against spurs.? And on top of that a defensive double pivot? And on top of that AWB as right wing back? Where is the goal creation going to come from? Smacks of cowardice. Please prove me wrong.

That lineup doesn't really inspire confidence, severe lack of pace up front. Hope AWB and Shaw stay wide and do their jobs in getting the ball towards Ronaldo and Cavani.
Love to see Sancho play instead of AWB as wing back. But I guess that would be too much for Ole to get his head round.

Yeah. I really think if we swap the front 3 today with Rashford/Greenwood/Sancho we'd be better off. It's a bit sad because we have some quality players but even the ones who perform well are half detrimental to the team because Ole can't coach them properly. I love Bruno, but Ole can't coach him properly so he isn't always exactly a plus.

it’s definitely a “save my job with a hard fought draw” lineup. But I think given how last week went, they need to go back to what they were somewhat good at (a while ago now I must say) ie counter attacking.

Probably wouldn’t have bothered tuning in if it was another 4231. Don’t want to see it ever again whilst he’s still in charge.

I could accept that more, if he had the pace up front to make it more effective. Greenwood? Rashford? No, Cavani and Ronaldo.

I love Keane's mentality. He doesn't accept mediocrity and bullshit excuses.
I can’t stand Maguire anymore. He talk the talk. He is just happy to collect his check every week. No bottle, not a winner. And he is the captain.
If Keano was his team mate, je would bully him to the death.

Posted a picture saying ‘Good things come to those who work for it’ with a zipped mouth emoji.

Must say I agree with him, Shaw has been awful and he deserves a chance.. especially as a wing back.

Love to see Sancho play instead of AWB as wing back. But I guess that would be too much for Ole to get his head round.

If we were to play this line up, then Sancho in for Wan Bissaka, and either WB benched or instead of Lindelof is the way you'd imagine would be the best way to play it.

Potentially with Rashford rotating with Cavani.

Weird we didn't get Conte but go on to play 3 at the back and completely change system under Ole.

City have lost, Liverpool have drawn.

We’re absolutely getting battered because we always do the opposite of capitalising on other’s results.

Three at the back and two defenders at wingback and McFred. Yikes. I guess when you’re on the run we’re on, a clean sheet is all that matters.

The lack of pace on the counter could be a problem though. I don’t see the point in playing Bruno behind our two slowest attackers in that formation if counter attack is the plan. But whatever, we’ll find out shortly if it works.
