Powell will come on for De Gea with 5 minutes to go losing 2-1. He'll score a last second goal to earn the point and LvG will drop his trousers and tell the journalists to suck his low hanging balls.

Or it'll be a boring game with lots of possession and we'll lose 1-0 from a set peice

If schneiderlin and Herrera dont start this game but Rooney, Fellaini, Depay and Mata play instead of them I will be pissed, come to think of it I will probably be pissed anyway and won't notice wahey.
    Merry Christmas everyone.

I hope there will be no draw. A win against Stoke would be a huge relief and a solid base for increasing the confidence, a loss would mean that Louis is continuing to fail and the Board would take further steps in their decision, however, a draw would mean this:

I will not have an ounce of hope is Rooney or/ and Fellaini starts for this match. Given the lack of fit players I can see the opposite. If LvG wants to show that he can take risks then he should start by giving undeserving players the chop! Mata misses the ax for because he can produce more than the other two.

    DDG

    Varela - Smalling - Jones - Blind
    Schneiderlin - Herrera
    Mata
    Young - Martial - Memphis

We will lose. It disgusts me to say so but its true. With all due respect, a club like Man Utd should not be losing to f'n Stoke.

A club like MUFC should not be losing Middlesborough, Bournemouth and Norwich...but it happened.

I just can't see a victory for United at the Brittania. But I think we can scratch out a 1-1 draw.

I've yet to find a pundit or website that has United getting even a point at Stoke. I honestly can't remember the last time the was such widespread doubt about a united team. Even Michael Owen has us getting beat. Think is, I don't see us scoring either.

I like this on paper but Fellaini will start over Herrera and Mata will start over Young with Rooney in the middle. We could see Young a RB though. LVG will want Fellaini for his physicality. We may be playing with 10 men if it goes tits up early though. I can see Fellaini having a meltdown or Rooney committing a petulant foul when a Stoke defender mounts a counter attack against him.

The funny thing is that Stoke is no longer the epitome of physicality. They have added a fair number of flair players to their starting XI. A Apart from Shawcross, Whelan and maybe Adam, there aren't really any physical players. So playing Fellaini for the sake of nullifying any physical threat is just nonsensical. I fully expect them to play us off the park if they are on song!

makeshift fullbacks against a team who's main strength is actually on the flanks. Topped with speed on the counter which saw us concede every we come up against.

Van Gaal hasn't managed to find an answer for that all season so i doubt he would have one on Saturday.

I've been begging for this team for a while. Won't happen though.

I'm going for this line up, more in hope than expectation. Time for us to show some bite.

    De Gea
    Young Smalling Jones Blind
    Schneiderlin Herrera
    Mata Rooney Memphis
    Martial

My guess for the most likely subs barring injury; although I can see Carrick starting instead of Scheiderlin/Herrera

    1. Carrick.
    2. Fellaini.

LVG really does need a convincing win, and nothing less.

It's a myth Stoke are a difficult team to beat for United. They have only won one game in 15 against United.

Stoke actually play good football under Hughes, and have done for a while. It'll suit us (at least, it would normally suit us) as it leaves us space to attack on the counter. Just not sure our defence is up to it.

Wow, so they are basically Aston Villa mk2. Never felt this way....it could be beacasue they always put in effort and the games are really physical. Thanks for these stats mate.

Would love to see a front 6 of:

    ---------Martial
    Mamphis---------Lingard
    -----Herrera--Schn-
    ----------Carrick

But no way we don't end up lining up with 4 players in-line along the opposition pnealty box

It will be interesting to see if van Gaal will have the balls to actually change his tactics and be more positive since his job is on the line.

But in reality we all know it's going to be the same mundane garbage we've become accustomed to.

I don't think he will change; it would have happened prior to this but LVG is too stubborn and everyone else are morons.

Honestly, I don't think the next two matches really matter. LVG has 18 months of work to be judged on, and especially this season, you can see what he wants to do and how he wants to play. The board is either ok with those tactics or not. I think we're just stalling before signing Mourinho so that he doesn't have to face Chelsea right away. Mendes is trumping up the Madrid angle to panic United.

I do agree, the match will be utter shite once again and I would expect Stoke to at least draw if not win.

    Yeah, agree on all points.

I really do hope that the board is stalling to land Mourinho, there's no way they are dumb enough to blindly stick with LVG regardless of the next 2 fixtures.

Im sick of this shit attacking football now. Players dont enjoy playing this methodical crap. It would be different if the players believed in it as I'm sure these tactics could work if they really wanted it to work. Just seems hopeless now the players have lost interest. We need a change.

For the last 3 or 4 games we have started brightly and I have enjoyed watching us. then someone in the match day thread will mention that we start well each week and fade after 15 to 20 minutes. I then disagree and we promptly fade and it all falls to shit.

It's like clockwork, every fecking week.

What about vs Norwich and vs Bournemouth?
We lost against those 2 teams as well.
Remember it's been a long time since our attack was this bad. Even under Moyes (when playing badly) we would actually score goals. Unfortunately, we would concede a lot, too.

I've noticed this happen consistently to us.
I wonder if this is down to poor fitness.

In theory our possession game should tire our opponents out and in the final 20 minutes, we should absolutely dominate our opponents. I feel that the reverse is happening.

Wonder how Memphis wil do at a cold rainy day in Stoke..

    My bet is, not well.

But no way we don't end up lining up with 4 players in-line along the opposition pnealty box

It drives me mad when we do that. What's the point? We never pass forward so why not let them drop deep to give the midfielders options? It's like we took the worst of possession football and the worst of counter attacking football and are combining the 2.

The very optimistic side of me sees a very ugly 0-1 win but in reality I feel different. I just hope to see the players playing with cojones and courage. That will be a sign of whether they have given up on LVG or not.

In some ways i find it strange that players will play more with cojones after the media storm and speculations. You'd think they will do that during a winning streak aswell.

If we score first we will win. I think we teams set up based on keeping us at bay as long as possible and snatching a goal on the counter. If we can get a first half goal it messes up their game plan. But we never do.
