for starters, I'm amazed Sparky hasn't been sacked this week. Soton are truly awful at the moment but no doubt we'll treat them as if they were Juve when we should just go for the throat

Bring in Dalot, Valencia had lost it.
Drop Matic for Herrera and play Fred and Pogba ahead of him. Drop Lukaku for Sanchez, Martial picks himself. Add a but of youth on the right with Gomez and let him attack.

    De Gea
    Dalot Smalling Jones Shaw

    Herrera
    Fred
    Pogba
    Gomez
    Martial
    Sanchez

Is it finally time for midfield Fred- Herrera- Pogba and Martial, Alexis and Mata( Lukaku) in attack? Only my dream , right?

    DDG
    Dalot Smalling Bailly Shaw
    Pogba Fred
    Sanchez Mata Martial
    Rashford

    Team I expect

    De Gea
    Valencia smalling jones Shaw
    Fellaini matic pogba
    Mata Rashford martial

    Team I’d like

    De Gea
    Dalot smalling Jones Shaw
    Herrera pereira pogba
    Mata Sanchez martial

I agree we'll win this comfortably, almost conceding early twice, eventually scoring two then actually conceding in the 75th minute and shitting our pants for the remaining time. At full time people will be questioning why others are disappointed and such shitty fans because we won at the end of the day, despite having 40% possession. If we win the one after that in a similar manner a turning point thread will crop up for the millionth time.

This is me being optimistic now, and I'm not even kidding.

When was the last time we won comfortably?

Oh don't be silly Moriarty. We're going to get smashed. We are a REALLY REALLY poor side.

All I know is that Matic will start and most probably Lukaku. The rest is unknown.

This will happen in all likelihood. Or Soton will just trounce us.

We have too many players who can't score goals, in our team.
I know that Lingard does a lot of work "off the ball", but we can't afford to be giving starting positions to these non-scoring attackers.
Lingard and Lukaku (who also cannot score goals), need to be a bench option.
I'd start Fellaini or Sanchez up front, with Martial on the left and nobody on the right (I say this because our RW is basically useless, so I'd rather focus on attempting to score from the left and through the middle).

This will be a close game, 1:1 I think. Unless they turn up and tear us into pieces, considering our "performance" on Tuesday, we are fecked.

I dont think Bailly has ever played at LCB. It will be Smalling and Jones again.
He has done a few times, especially when he played with Lindelof. He's much better at RCB though, which is why he and Smalling didn't work that well.

He’s played with Lindelof like twice?

The lineup I just picked made me sad. What I want:

    ------------------DDG----------------
    Dalot----Smalling-----Bailly------Shaw
    --------------Fellaini--------
    Pereira-----------------Fred
    -----------Pogba------------
    ---Rashford-------Martial

I think it's pretty much a guarantee that most of the back-line stay in, but Young will probably start over Valencia. With this being an away game, I expect 433 so probably a midfield of Matic, Pogba, and Fellaini. Rashford will be dropped, most likely in favour of Lukaku who at least got an all-important assist on Tuesday night:

    de Gea
    Young Smalling Jones Shaw
    Fellaini Matic Pogba
    Lingard Lukaku Martial
    ---
Romero; Valencia, Bailly; Herrera, Fred, Mata; Rashford

Herrera has been left out entirely for the last two, but I think that was more to do with the thinking that they were two easy home games and we didn't need him (not that they turned out to be that). So, I expect him to make the bench at the weekend. If Sanchez is fully fit he'll be there too, however, maybe at the expense of Fred or Herrera if need be. On the plus side, albeit requiring a bit of heroics from Dave, our defence seems to be a little better after two clean sheets in a row for what feels like the first time this season. Southampton is absolute pants offensively so we really, really should not be conceding in this game. That should give us the platform José likes of only needing to score once to win...

Hopefully, we can take these baby-steps and go into the Arsenal game on the back of three clean sheets and a couple of victories in a row. We shouldn't be fearing Arsenal at Old Trafford, but that is what it has come to. The game after this will be one of the few times in recent history that Arsenal will fancy beating us at OT.

Regardless, should really be winning this one at least 0-2 in a comfortable affair.

It won't happen, but I'd like to see -

    De Gea

    Dalot (if fit, otherwise Young)
    Smalling
    Jones
    Shaw

    Herrera
    Fellaini

    Lingard
    Mata
    Martial

    Rashford

Subs: Romero, Bailly, Young (or Valencia if Dalot not fit), Fred, Pereira, Sanchez, Lukaku

No space for dead wood like Matic (too old and slow) and Pogba (not interested and probably wants away).

I do think Southampton are poor, so we should win. It will be a comfortable afternoon if we can get an early goal, otherwise a nervy 1-0 win is in the offing.

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Jones Darmian
    McTominay Matic
    Mata Fellaini Young
    Lukaku

Jose dream team. One day he's going to start this team.

So you think we're going to struggle against a shite Southampton side and you'd still like to have our best outfield player left out of the squad?

Can I assume that "our best outfield player" refers to Pogba? If so, is this the same Pogba who routinely dallies on the ball and gets dispossessed, struggles to complete five yard passes, falls over with a pleading glance at the referee every time he loses the ball rather than chasing back, and generally plays like he'd rather be anywhere else than in a United shirt?

If you're not referring to Pogba, and I've inadvertently missed someone out, then let me know.

You’re overreacting to prove a point. Of course he should be in the fecking squad.

Imagine the scenes if we lose this.

Think we’ll win by a couple of goals though. Southampton are even worse than us.

Sorry, but I just don't think his performances merit inclusion.

I think he struggles with the opposition closing him down, which they all do now. When he played for Juventus, and to a certain extent France too, he was in a side which was generally better than their opponents and in an environment where he was given time on the ball. Playing for a below par Manchester United in the English Premier League has come as a bit of a shock to him.

Whilst I doubt he will ever make the adjustment - I don't think he's smart enough - I do allow for the possibility that he may improve markedly if we were to replace the manager. However, unless something dramatic happens between now and kick off, Mourinho will still be the manager, and Pogba will still be a liability.
