Hoofball merchantsI understand the need for a diamond. We have Bailly, Smalling, Lindelof and Rojo out with injury, so need extra protection for the makeshift CB in Matic, in a DM with support. Our only potent winger needs a little rest ahead of a crucial game, so we go with 2 upfront with Pogba behind them. Diamond. Fair enough.
What I don't understand are the personnel being chosen, given our choices. Why is Dalot not getting a look in, does Young not need a rest? Why is Matic at CB, and not someone from the academy? Why is McTominay on the pitch ahead of our 50m tenacious, box to box CM in Fred? Why is Pereira not being picked as the deep lying playmaker over Fellaini, who is only good for long balls? If not Pereria, then at least get Pogba to the left of the diamond and play Mata/Lingard in the hole.
