In theory, it is a perfect counter to 3-5-2. 2 of the CBs mark their strikers, while the 3rd mops up behind, or steps up in front.
The midfield is outnumbered, but there should be easy out-balls. That's because the wingers should stay high and wide, pinning their fullbacks, while the wingbacks are free on both sides.
If the wingers track their fulllbacks, defending from the flanks should be easy since the opposition is outnumbered.
Instead, our wingers are narrow. That means their back 3 is in shape, not having to make decisions about whether to follow them wide or not. There is no out ball. Plus neither is tracking back. So, there's Fred helping out at the fullback positions. Which means in effect we often have a 1 or zero man midfield while out of possession. Total catastrophic system.I enjoy watching Sheffield United play more than us. They are mainly championship players.
