He was surrounded and chased down by 3 players with his back to goal before he’d even received the ball. Could he have done better? Probably. It’s not a situation any CB wants or should be put in though.

There was a player between him and De Gea. De Gea can make the pass, but if Maguire passed back it would likely be intercepted.

Maguire only had one way to go and that is to do a 180 turn. Even then, he would likely be closed down by the two players on either side of him.

De Gea should know better than giving Maguire of all people that pass. But Maguire is at fault. Firstly for dallying before passing back to De Gea, which means by the time the ball gets to the keeper the Sevilla players are already tighter to us, then for calling for the ball back, and then an awful attempt at a pass out wide.
