This will be tough. Spanish teams seem to always play well against English ones in general. Hope we start the game fully awake and play better than last game.

We have played Wolves enough lately so I am glad we are playing this mob.
I hope Rashford turns up in this game....he has been piss poor for the last month and I would be tempted to play James there.

So if we lose he's no better than Jose was for us? Either way, I don't agree with the logic.

The real weird thing is we have a next game and someone only think of it as a way of comparing our current manager to the previous one. Honestly weird thinking.

Why would you want Wolves, they would be harder to overcome, they have got our number and know how to stop us. In the last 6 games we have played against them we have only won once, lost twice and drawn three. It was the team to avoid.
And that one recent win was in a cup tie and I think United would have beaten them or be it after a tough slog.

Wolves aren't as good as Sevilla, they aren't a possession based team that makes you chase the ball for 90 mins. Sevilla are and that's far from ideal for already leg weary United team

Sevilla love this competition and have a great record against English teams in Europe, 1 defeat in 7 meetings. Finally Sunday looks to be another warm evening that will suit a Spanish team like Sevilla.

Yeah Wolves would have been better for us than Seville for sure, but Seville were always expected to qualify against Wolves especially in a one knockout game to be fair, as they're just better.

Am omtimistic. Need to start much better than we have been doing though plus we need Marcus to step up.
    2~1 United.

Well I wanted this. For one, it’s a proper European tie. Secondly, Wolves are pretty good against us. Not to say these won’t be, but I think we have a decent chance.

I knew Lucas Ocampos was vastly underappreciated at OM, but I never imagined that he could reach such level...so Lucas is the Talisman and best scorer of the 4th best team in Spain! unbelievable

I think this game will be harder than an eventual game against Inter/Shaktar. Sevilla know this competition very well, and while they didnt play particulary well today against Wolves, ourselves werent exactly brilliant against Copenhagen either.

I think its in our hands, we will either win or lose based on what we do. Sevilla can't beat us if we play how we should, but will definately will if we play as we have played our last games.

Sevilla would have been my pick out of the two of Wolves & Sevilla. Not because they are easier to play against but because they are tougher to play against than Wolves. Sevilla is much more proper CL level team and it's much better we test ourselves against CL level team now before our players got surprised next season by the difference of the quality between EL & CL. And beside, I'm sick watching United vs Wolves nowdays.

Fun stats: Just like us, they are the third best team defensively in their league.

James has been piss poor for the last 7 months.

If we were playing Madrid or Barca there would be more positivity here.

Play 433 to give Williams more cover.
Start Ighalo, with Marcus on the bench, Martial on the left.

    Ighalo to start?

There's no way he should start in a game of this magnitude.

A proper possession based team who has runners all around. I just hope we don't do the half arsed pressing and get ourselves exposed. Play defensive, go with a 3 man defence to protect Williams and hit them on counter. We will win it easily. If we make it open, Matic just wouldn't be able to dominate that midfield.

Just dont take it granted and play cautious. Its a semi final. No one cares how are we winning.

Call me paranoid but, not a fan of there being quite a bit of mention that we've had 21 penalties - most of any club in the big leagues across Europe. Lampard did a good job of trying to paint a picture of us getting unfair advantage and IMO had a consequence in FA semi.

As for Sevilla, I think it's a better opponent for us. We've played well against good sides most of the season and as much as we've improved in breaking down teams since Bruno has come on board and Pogba being back, playing direct and on the counter is still our strongest attacking attribute.

Defensively we'll have to make sure Williams gets support but, we've been a solid defensive unit front to back, so long as we stay switched on, think we are in good shape.

Should hopefully be a good a game and if anything at least a precursor to playing in the CL next season. Game could help in showing how we'll need strength in quality depth and not just numbers to compete at the top levels.

    Ole’s first real test #heritage
As funny as this is, it's true to an extent as this match will be used as a yardstick to judge him because Jose downfall all came from us getting knocked out by Sevilla. Win this and Ole would have one over Jose. Lose this and Jose would be gloating.

I think Martial and Mason will find ways of scoring while Bruno and Pogba will find ways to pass the ball to them. Rashford can be a joker with his current form a bit low... yeah it’s a 4th side in their league, we have qualities on the ball too, they should fear us and if I’m not mistaken, they will y try to defend hard against us too because they fear our front line clinical shooting.

Great opportunity to measure our progress against a good side in Europe. It is preferable to Wolves which would’ve been a miserable match, regardless of if the odds of winning are marginally different.

It’s a no pressure tournament for us. I am just glad we are not playing Wolves again. Sevilla at least feels like a European tie. Two different philosophies to the game against each other. This will give the boys a good low pressure experience for the big one next season.

We are absolutely terrible against Spanish teams. Hope we can somehow win it.
True. Thing is, they need to look after the ball and that usually pushes us into our shell. I'd like to see us push up and play aggressively. Usually against Spanish teams they're the ones pressing us and we resort to "getting it forward quickly " etc Hopefully we control the game.

Hopefully no repeat of the Bilbao game then.

Don't see it happening. We've always been 2nd best against the good Spanish / European teams. We'll try to play on the counter imo. The other thing is so many of our players are so tired. I would definitely mix it up, get starts to Ighalo for sure and maybe find spots for Mct and/or Mata. And stay in game and get Rashford /Greenwood /Pogba or Fernandes on. If they all start I see such a tired team...

I imagine Seville have a smaller squad than ours and are also tired. Think this aspect is overplayed.

It won't be a easy game but i'm expecting us to win. We have a superior team on paper and that will count.

Just finished watching the highlights of the Shaktar game. Hopefully I'm not jinxing us and all respect to Sevilla who I'm sure will be a challenge as well... But I'm glad we re not facing them instead. Inter looks to have its hands full with that one.

happens often enough that i begin to think it's a match up thing, like Nadal and federer used to be. Always see the most annoying gamesmanship side of these Spanish teams come to the fore when we go out to them and not necessarily because we got outplayed or anything.

Tbf we did beat Celta in the semis in 2017 so that must be worth something though we came within a whisker of going out at the end when Guidetti missed a tap-in.

I don't understand why a lot of people dismiss Sevilla, pundits talk about Inter, Wolves, etc, forgetting that Sevilla is a force in Europa League. The winner of this tie will win the trophy and it's going to be our toughest game yet.

The good news here is Ole's team is not a typical English whip it in the box team, they play the ball with their feet and penetrate centrally. Sevilla also has a job to do keeping us quiet. They had problems with Traore's pace, hopefully, Rashford is awake for this.

    Really?

Normally I’d agree with you, but the circumstances around our last meeting with this opponent and (even more so) its aftermath make comparisons inevitable.

This is going to be a very difficult game,
They don't concede many goals, they don't really before that many either.
Can see another tight game but with less possession than we usually have.
Just got to hope that Martial and Greenwood carry on their form as they will be crucial to winning this.

Why’s everyone so bloody frightened of Seville? They’re hardly prime Barcelona- wow they’ve got a Liverpool reject Suso! So what? We’ll smash them!
