    exactly this.

Get Scoddy on to shackle Banega. Leave Rashers or Greenwood on the bench for laters.
We are the better team so why should we adapt? Ole just needs to focus on a 4-3-3 instead of 4-2-3-1 and we should be fine. it a midfield battle and we need the bodies there. We have an attack that will punish any second balls sent in quickly. Its all on Ole if we cant get this right.

Exactly the mentality we should have.

The likes of Benega should be having to cater their games to Pogba & Bruno not the other way round.

We should win this game, if we don’t we can run an autopsy on the performance but we are the better team.

Starting to hope McTomminay or Fred might come in as part of a diamond to effectively man-Mark Banega for 90 mins

This team would enable us to stifle their possession dominance, man mark their best player and counter with Pogba/Bruno unleashing our front two.

Rashford has dropped off and could Impact from the bench.

    Romero

    AWB Bailly Maguire Williams

    Mctomminay

    Pogba Matic

    Bruno

    Martial Mason
I agree but I would still have Matic as the deepest player in that formation and I’d have Rashford ahead of Mason, who I think is currently more of a sure thing off the bench. Rashford isn’t playing great at the moment but on form he’s still the better player currently and has a good repport with Martial. If Greenwood starts and either him or Tony aren’t playing well then we’d bring on Rashford who may still not be his usual self. I’d rather start him and pull him off if needed.

id actually start Rashers, mate. He puts a shift in and should be instrumental in us keeping tight until the game loosens up. Of course, he’d be on hand for a counter but I’d like to keep Mason up our sleeve for later. Again, would rather start with Scott whilst there is plenty of energy in the game and as their press hopefully slows down, maybe Matic on, whilst we look to break a bit more.

Given their possession stats and our strengths, feels like a natural time for Ole to go back to pre-Bruno tactics, and set us up to counter. Will put a lot of pressure on Rashford to perform - his pace will mean if we do that'll he have at least a few chances, but needs to have his decision making and execution back.

If that is how we set up, I wonder if you start James and wait to bring on Greenwood for when they tire a bit. Putting James on the halfway line basically negates the opposition FB, and possibly a DMF as well with Rashford on the other side. All of Bruno, Matic and Pogba can find those balls over the top into space too.

Risky, but I can't see us having that much of the ball, so maybe mixing it up is what we need.

    you sure about that?

Knives out before kick off eh?

Think we will lose this fixture. Teams that often maintain possession well are the ones who impose themselves more in European competition. We still don't play well enough as a team by way of movement and coaching for us to gather momentum in this type of competition. I don't see Ole as being the manager to bring us huge success in silverware, I think his contribution is building the foundation for us to move forward I don't think he has the pedigree to take that next step. Could be wrong but that's just my consensus given his managerial capabilities thus far.

English and Spanish teams have been garbage in Europe since the lockdown, i don't expect a good game, but just go through please.

I am skeptical we will make it, but open for surprises.

Sevilla have been very good since lock-down ended.

I actually think it's going to be a great game to watch. Sevilla play with a high line because their defenders are fast as feck which could give Rashford the confidence he's been missing for a while if he has space to run into. On the other hand if we play 4 at the back (which I very much doubt) then Williams will be targeted by Ocampos/Suso and Navas and we could be in trouble. There's so many good contests all over the pitch which should make it a good game. If we give Banega time and space we'll be in trouble but if they give Pogba time and space then they'll be in trouble. Really looking forward to this one

Im nervous. Were so far into the comp I really want the team to win it. What a boost it will be to win a Euro trophy for the younger lads.

Exactly. Can't understand the mentality of some people who think this isn't an important game. If a semi final in a European competition doesn't get the juices flowing then I fear for them in the future. 4-3 us AET ;)

I'm sure we thought the same when they knocked us out of the champions league a couple of years ago

We may lose. Any team can.

We could lose man marking Benega as some have asked in here & we could lose as Ive suggested, playing our own game.

To me making concessions for your opponent shouldn’t come at the consequence of derailing your teams strengths.

Win or not, we should be looking upon this as a winnable fixture going into it.

    Sevilla haven't lost since 09/02/2020

In that time they have played Barcelona, Villarreal, Valencia, Roma and Wolves. First 2 were draws the last 3 were wins.

We win this and we win the competition in my opinion. Inter in the final will be easier than this game.
Winner of tonights game will go on to win the competition IMO.

Weatherwise it hasn't gone any cooler which will suit Sevilla more than United. 32c with Isolated thunderstorms thrown in..

Thanks for the info, heard the same on a podcast today & have read this over the past few days - not sure what your point is.

I’ve said we can lose this game & I don’t think game-planing at the detriment of our strongest 11 is the way to go.

Sevilla are in good form, as we have been. You can respect your opposition & see your own teams strengths.

Our strength has been changing for the big games. 3 at the back

Our record since the turn of the year is none too shabby either. We've lost only once in our last 24 games, and that was largely down to a somewhat weakened team and Chelsea having two extra days rest.

We've been poor in front of goal in our last 4 or 5 games, making us struggle through them when we otherwise wouldn't. We'll win tonight (imo) if our forwards can rediscover their shooting boots.

Nervous tonight. Read somewhere they've never lost a semi final in the europa league. Hope we don't feck this up.

No he is right Sevilla are better than Inter

I don't know, I'm personally fearing Inter a lot more anyway. Not saying tonight is going to be easy far from it but I'd fancy us if we put in a performance.

I do agree with you to a certain point but think tonight could be an exception. Normally we play 4-2-3-1 but my own personal opinion is if we play this formation we'll struggle. Sevilla have fast defenders so they can afford to push up and in too many games this season when we try to play out from the back and are pressured we struggle.

This game has us playing 3 at the back written all over it. Not only will it give Rashford space to run into but it will also help Williams because he will be targeted. It's far from my favourite formation but it has worked pretty well against so called better teams than us.

We should be favourites, but they are a good team and if they play well this could be extremely tight

    Some quite unfavourable stats:

We've won 13 of our last 56 against Spanish sides
They've lost 4 out of 22 against English sides
They've won 24 of their last 25 Europa knockout ties
They're on the longest unbeaten run in the history of their football club - 19 games
They have never gotten to Europa semis and not won the entire thing
They're known for pressing incredibly well which we're fecking abysmal at dealing with
And we still looked absolutely wrecked against Copenhagen and we were brought into extra time with them

I see this as a 50/50 match, 2/1 is class odds on them

The weather appears to be a little cooler this evening, which would really help us. Matic might manage 90 mins having had some rest last time.

I'd like to see us keep something in reserve though. Rashford maybe, given how tired he was last match. Start with James or Lingard to keep them busy at the back.

London Reds - can you suggest a place in Shoreditch to watch the game, please? Near Easyhotel. A PM would be amazing as I’m about to set off driving so can’t check the thread and will need to book a table on the way :)

Feel free to join us if your local haha.

Sevilla are in impressive form but I feel we have the better team on paper, I'm really excited for tonight (also a bit worried.. ok very worried)

Feels almost like a free hit at a top team, want us to play the usual 11 and see how we cope.

Make no mistake, this might well be a top 10 European result for United should they win and make the final tonight. Sevilla in this competition are special, they are a good side anyway, and this is on a neutral ground.

I’d have us favourites, but not by too much.

You'd have us as favourites? We're not playing well at the moment. I'm absolutely expecting a Sevilla win. 3-1.

Easy money for you at the bookies then. Most make a killing with your knowledge of the game and spotting value.

Agree with this approach although maybe Fred instead of McTom and with Matic as the deepest.

From what started out as a “lets watch this in bed so i’m fresh for work” it’s turned into a box full of beers chilling nicely in the fridge, bottle of wine for the Mrs and a few friends coming over, volume on full pelt... C’mon, lets have it!

Betting against United has actually had incredible value this last 7 years
