Guys, there's a whole 5 days between this game and the West Ham one. No reason why we can't play both will full strength teams. It's no different to the final preseason game we play at OT every year usually 4-5 days before the season begins.

FYI United in red tonight, RM in black (guess they want to show off their new kit).

United must be deemed the home team and in europe they wear white shorts and socks. Madrid will change colours due to that, they played in the green at OT in 2013 after United refused to wear their black shorts.

We are probably considered hosts, so their white kit doesn't work with our white shorts. They always used 2nd kit when they came to OT because of that.

Also, the WH game is definitely much bigger than the freaking super cup for me. That's the actual PL. No one cares about your super cup trophies..

Why do they all count as winning 6 trophies in a season than since barcelona won it. A trophy is a trophy how small it may be.

Different opinions I guess. United can win all the supercups they can but to me it's all about the PL, CL and FA cup (league cup to an extent too)

One of 38 premier league games it bigger then a fecking super cup to you? :wenger: Nobody would be saying this if we were favorites, "it's only a friendly" is being said because Madrid are obviously better then us. Pretty shit attitude.

Argh forgot this wasn't a friendly and missed out on line up.

Doubt I'll bother with it this season.

    First went with this,

    ------------------------De Gea----------------------

    Valencia---Smalling---Lindelof---Blind---Darmian

    ------Herrera--------Matic-----------Pogba--------

    ---------------Lukaku---------Rashford-------------

And then in the final minute, changed to this,

    ------------------------De Gea----------------------

    Valencia------Smalling------Lindelof------Darmian

    ------Herrera--------Matic-----------Pogba--------

    --------Mkhitaryan------------------Rashford-------

    ------------------------Lukaku-----------------------

We've looked solid as a unit, but I have to agree. Going forward, we've looked pretty toothless.

That said, I do think we've looked at our best in a 352.

I would make some minor changes to make us more attacking, though.
I agree in that we've looked solid but, to be fair, we've hardly been tested.

Lingard in for Darmian - We need someone who has the energy to get up and down, but also has the ability to beat a player a delivery a good cross. Lingard played in the first game, where we arguably looked our best throughout the whole of pre season, and he was probably our best player.

Obviously, we could do with an upgrade in this position, but for now, I would use Lingard
Lingard did look okay but I think he's far too weak to play in that position. Also, bar his first few games on the left in 15/16 and a few performances as a CAM, I don't think he's any good at beating players. I hate seeing Darmian as our only player on the left flank but I'd use him there before Lingard. I do think this is the position that, as of now, needs upgrading the most. Unless Shaw earns some trust from José and kicks on, which would be lovely.

Rashford in for Mkhitaryan - Mkhitaryan didn't look too bad against Sampdoria. Could have had a hat trick. I'm just desperate to see what a partnership of Rashford and Lukaku can do. Two out and out strikers, who have contrasting attributes to compliment each other.

Rashford to run in behind, whilst Lukaku holds it up and brings others into play. Traditionally, this is normally how two up top play.

More recently, we have seen it with Higuain and Dybala, who also operated in a 352, at times.
I 100% agree here, though I do think they're quite similar players rather than opposites. Lukaku would rather run in behind than hold up the ball.

I would like to see Rashford used as a Yorke/Rooney/Tevez type 10 where he can work hard off the ball to help the midfield and, when in possession, get forward and be a goal threat. I doubt we'll see him properly used like this for a long time yet, though.

    Centre midfielders

Pereira, despite having a poor game against Sampdoria, did a lot of willing running from him. In a 352, it's imperative that your centre midfielders push wide and create attacking overloads with the wing backs. That could be centre midfielders overlapping wing back, or vice versa. Pogba did this very well at Juventus, and used to link incredibly well with Evra. Basically, they need to become wide midfielders when in possession of the ball, whilst our holding midfielder dictates the pace of the game.

It's a system we obviously still need to get used to, but I'd say in terms of balance, we've looked more promising in this system so far. Guess only time will tell, though.
    Very true.

What I would like to see:

    De Gea
    Lindelof Smalling Blind
    Matic
    Valencia Herrera Pogba Lingard
    Lukaku Rashford

Romero Tuanzebe Darmian Fellaini Mata Mkhitaryan Martial

I wouldn't mind seeing us line-up like this tonight but not as our default system for the season. As for tonight, I reckon it'll be Darmian & Mkhitaryan for Rashford & Lingard.

But you have to win a major European trophy to even be in the Super Cup...The Super Cup is a massive achievement. Winning it would be great.

There's nothing indicating yet Mourinho's 3-5-2 will be more defensive system than 4-3-3, so I guess people should stop representing it as 5-3-2.

    Buzzing for this.

Sadly think we will lose, but be great to see if both play a strong team.

    3-1 Madrid

When was the last time we let 3 goals after we fix the midfeild balance? I think we can win this.

I'm awfully confident about this one, for some reason. If Ronaldo doesn't play, we should be able to nick it. 2-1.

However if Ronaldo plays, he's destined to score against us. CB pairing of Lindelof and Smalling against that Real side make me nervous.

I'd rather win the Super Cup than the League Cup. There, I said it.

I did the opposite (except for having Mkhi instead of Rashford in the three CB formation)

I feel we're going with a solid back five. Three midfielders. Lukaku and Rashford to stretch their defense with Rashford also helping with our defense. Contain them for first hour and then rely on our superior fitness levels to nick a goal.

What? Who cares about this so called super cup?
I'd rather draw vs WHU and lose this one, than win tonight and lose on sunday.

No more than a preseason match for me, hope José puts on a B side.
Small time mentality thank god Jose doesn't think like that.

If they play 4-3-1-2 and we go 3-5-1-1, who is going to pick up Benzema and who is going to pick up Ronaldo?

Jones did a good job on Ronaldo back in 2013, didn't he? Maybe we'll have Lindelof on the left of the three and Jones on the right. Although, I think Lindelof has been playing on the right for most of pre-season.

Edit: I was assuming Jones had his ban rescinded.

Have we ever won the super cup? We lost to Zenit the last time we played in it.
We beat Red Star Belgrade just after winning the old Cup Winners Cup and if I'm not mistaken we won it the start of the 99/00 season or something like it

Ya, this one is hard to predict. I have my doubts onabout Mkhi starting, he loses the ball a lot and i don't think it will go well against this Madrid midfield.

Rumors on twitter this is Madrid's line up :

Navas; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo; Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Isco; Bale, Benzema

Makes sense, same starting lineup in the CL Final except Bale for Ronaldo.
