Apart from choosing McTominay instead of Van de Beek I'm happy enough with that starting 11. Right call not to start Pogba.

Couldn't care less about the team performance. Getting at least a draw is all that matters tonight.

Sabitzer, Nkunku, Haidara and Kampl will buzz around our midfield duo, which rarely works well in the best of times due to their lack of mobility, especially Matic. Would have put VdB in there but I’ll back Ole on this. All I’m saying is that Bruno, Rashford and Greenwood will have to be world class.

On the other hand, I’m happy with Shaw’s selection as I suggested it straight after the West Ham game. He’s possibly a better LCB than LB.

What did people expect in midfield?

Fred's suspended and Pogba's agent couldn't keep his mouth shut.

I know RB are a good team but I always wonder how they are so good looking at their personnel.

    Great coach and system maybe.

Another game where DvdB doesn't start but Mr Scottish rugby player is starting again. Get Pogba out and get Ole to escort him.

    Shocking midfield.

Massively defensive. So much for going for the win

Regardless of Mctominay and Matics ability, tonight is about grit and determination and we need players who will run through walls to get the result we need and they both love United and play as a team!

    come on!!

    Bench is atrocious.

Cavani and Martial not involved will do that, though considering the state of the latter's form I don't make him a big miss anyway.

As for the formation, hopefully we'll be nice and solid, start well and look to control the game. I'd expect vdB to come on to change things up in midfield if needed, but I agree the bench is worrying if we're in need of a goal. We certainly won't be bringing Rashford on to win it for us this time, that's for sure.

This is the xi I was hoping for considering the players who are out! Will be good and if not there are huge game changers on the bench with Pogba and VdB. Only problem there is no good forward on the bench. Feels like Ighalo hasn’t played in months.

Henderson (great goalie in the making), Tuanzebe (played brilliantly against PSG), DVdB (one of the top rated midfielders in Europe before we bought him), Pogba (WC winner and our most expensive signing), Mata (tends not to let us down when he comes on)...you mean that atrocious bench?
Let me rephrase it. We don't have any player who can change the game if we need it.

As far as I am concerned, Pogba isn't available.

I wouldn't say it's atrocious. Many people would love to have players like Van de Beek and Pogba on their bench, despite the latter not being in great form. That being said, it was never going to look as it can with the likes of Fred, Martial and Cavani out.

Yeah I knew there would be comments about the bench being poor with them unavailable.

The thing I can't understand is why we have three GK's in the squad but decided to leave Pellestri at home.

Genuinely don't care how we qualify. I will take the worst possible performance as long as we just get through to the knock out stages.

No Donny is sad. What has he gotta do to get a regular run in a team?

    Come on United!!!

Now I can feel the atmosphere of the game and how important this night is.

I'm surprised with a defensive midfield, it doesn't sound good, because we usually lose such games - you can never play for a draw, you can never play defensively, and I'm afraid that's the attitude.

Why can't we just play this game thinking it's just another game away from home?!

I think we might be trying to keep the first half tight and use the 5 subs allowed to bring fresh players with better quality in the second half.

The CaF is negative before kickoff, perfect!

Hope they prove me wrong tonight but that midfield duo of Matic-Scott is really underwhelming for such an important game. And against a team that presses really hard as well. We desperatly need a top notch cm/dm

What did people expect in midfield?

Fred's suspended and Pogba's agent couldn't keep his mouth shut.
Vdb to beat their press like he did last time. We are playing 5 at the back, you don't need matic and mct.

We have no one to pass the ball.

Personally felt we should play counter but that looks very defensive. It's going to be a problem if they score and we are chasing the game with these players

I think Mattial is the biggest miss playing this formation as He can hold up the ball well
Hope Greenwood can hold the ball up well when it comes to him
I would have played James with Rashford myself as his pace will scare them to bits but just hope and pray Greenwood steps up
