He is someone that is done, never a player for an ambitous team. Last time he was averagely good was as a 10 in Spurs. Maybe he was better earlier but in the time I watched him he wasted two or three good attacks passing straight to the opposition, including one that set up their winning goal.

That is one possibility, but it's far from the only one. Not enough coaching is another (it takes time to drill these things), also poor mentality among players, fatigue, lack of familiarity due to injuries, etc. Realistically it's probably a combination of them all.
The goal we did score was very much coached though, pressing high and punishing the mistakes, so something is sinking in.
Even if Mainoo was injured he knows McT is not a sit-back midfield type, he's lazy in positioning, reacts late, and roams forward much. A Mainoo injury sub required something different, a change in tactics, perhaps pushing a defender into midfield, something to keep control of midfield and exploit their system. McT has proven many times he's not a CM/DM type, he's not composed and lacks the IQ required to be a competent CM/DM.
Be more specific, if you believe the decision was wrong, then what change should have been made, given who we have on the bench.

Where did the two goals come from ?, nobody tracking the runners. Why ETH thinks McT can be a defensive midfielder when for half a decade he has shown he can't play there, is beyond me.Why can we play 4-4-2? FFS! I'm confused here, I was asking you what suggested alternative move you'd have made if bringing on McTominay at half time was such a bad one. OK fair enough, kudos to you for actually coming up with an alternative (most of the folks on here raging about that seem to have no idea about an alternative and just want to rant).
Having said that, your suggestions mean quite a huge shift in the way we play, when was the last time we played 3-5-2? Or AWB in midfield? We already have a big issue with players not being comfortable in their roles due to injuries and the lack of consistency that allows, adopting an entirely unfamiliar system mid match would only exacerbate that.Awful performance again from us again.
1 question though Why wasnt Matt Turner penalised for hand ball on the pass back when he caught it after he kicked it straight in the air? The keeper is not allowed use his hands in a passback and after he kicks it straight up he caught it before any other player caught it so handball should have been given against him.Some good news.
